When we stayed at the GF around 5 years ago we paid about $350 a night and even then I thought it was a bit overpriced. Our room was just OK. The pools were cool but not amazing. We went in with high expectations and were kind of disappointed. The best things about the GF are the dining options and the location. Not sure any resort can beat the GF if those two things matter to you the most.
I would highly recommend trying the Wilderness Lodge. We have never actually stayed there but we visit almost every trip. Very nice resort with pretty solid food options. It feels quiet and out of the way but still a good location. It's usually cheaper than any of the monorail resorts. You can take a nice relaxing water taxi ride either over to the Contemporary or straight to MK and it drops you off very close to the main gait without having to fight through the crowds for the monorail or the big ferry.
