EKK! I’m so excited. The time has come that my 25th wedding anniversary is close enough that I can officially begin planning my husband and my anniversary trip.
First off, let’s begin with the introductions. My name is Sandy and my husband is Lin (actually his name is Lindsey, named after a grandfather but he goes by Lin or Heavy). I was fairly active years ago on the old boards but then life got way too busy so I only checked sporadically since I wasn’t going to Disney anytime soon. In fact, I’ve only been to Magic Kingdom once in the past 10 years. Yep, you read that right; we haven’t done a proper Disney trip since 2008. Believe me, if it were up to me that never would have happened.
Here is a picture of us from that trip. It was the first family photo from the trip while waiting on the boat to take us from Port Orleans Riverside to Downtown Disney (or as it's known now, Disney Springs)
But hubby isn’t a Disney lover. He will tolerate Disney things, but just isn’t into it. I love my hubby dearly, but he is boring when it comes to adventure. He is perfectly fine staying home and not going on a trip every year. Although, he did love our road trip a couple years ago where we (really me, because I get car sick), along with our two youngest (who are now 21 and 17) drove from our home in North Alabama to The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, St. Louis and then circled back through Dupo Illinois to see my childhood home before heading home. We covered like 17 states in 9 days! He loves those kinds of trips. I like them too, but miss so much of the scenery because I get so car sick so I have to do the majority of the driving. If I’m not driving I’m on Dramamine so sleep through the times I’m not driving. Anyways, enough rambling about that sort of stuff.
This is us...Taken on our road trip to the Grand Canyon (while we were going through Colorado and we stopped for hubby and kids to play in the snow).
And more recent taken earlier this year while on a business trip to New Hampshire, but this picture was taken in Quechee, Vermont
How did this trip come about?
Next year my hubby and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have been together since we were both 14, so dated 6 ½ years before we got married. We were junior high and high school sweethearts (all together now…”AWWWWW”). Yeah, we drive each other nuts but in the end we are definitely a perfect fit. He works super hard so I have been a stay at home mom since our oldest was a year old. We own a couple businesses and so I pretty much get to do what I love while being here for the kiddos. Anyway, back to how this trip came to be. Hubby and I honeymooned at Disney. Back then we didn’t really know the ins and outs (we had both only been once and that was with his mom and sister) so we stayed off property, didn’t know the “Disney secrets”, etc. We have only been two other times since our honeymoon; once in 2000 and again in 2008. Yes, unfortunately as I said in the intros, hubby isn’t a Disney fan so there are long spaces between trips. By then, I had learned a lot of the secrets and we did it “right”. Many years ago, I made hubby promise me that is we were able to; he had to treat me to a Disney trip, just the two of us, for our 25th anniversary. May 28th will be our actual anniversary but we are putting the trip off until later in the year. There are a few reasons for this. One, we are in the middle of planning a college graduation party and a wedding for our oldest DS. He graduates college on December 15th and will be getting married January 18th. That non proper trip to MK in 2014 was part of his senior trip, and he wasn’t even at MK, he was at Disney Quest. However, DD and DS’s fiancée (who was just a friend at the time) was there with me along with the fiancée’s family. It was her first trip to anything Disney and it was fun to see how excited she got. The second reason we are putting the trip off until later in the year is our “baby” graduates high school in May 2019. In fact he will graduate May 24th. Because of hubby’s job (he teaches at a community college) he can only take trips at certain times so we are doing youngest DS’s senior trip (a cruise) during spring break, but may go somewhere the weekend he graduates as a small bonus, but not sure. The third reason is because my birthday is September 17th so we booked that week in hopes that hubby can get that week approved to be off, we will make it a combo anniversary/birthday celebration. If not, and we have to change the dates, our back up will be to go the first week in November. It was our favorite time that we have went because hubby is hot natured so it was a pleasant time for him weather wise. There may be a change of plans, only because my DD and her boyfriend are discussing marriage (nothing official yet) but she wants a fall wedding when she does get married so if it becomes official in the next year, the dates may change to accommodate a fall wedding. But I’ll cross that bridge when and if it happens.
For kicks, even though they won't be on this trip, here are my kiddos now...
My oldest son and my future daughter-in-love (taken Sunday at their wedding shower). My son will graduate college on December 15th with a double major in Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene. He was going to do nursing at one time and he has to watch a video on giving catheters and he came home that day and changed his major . Thankfully it was just one of his health classes and he hadn't gotten too far along so is only one semester behind.
My daughter. who is also my partner in crime. I have to say I was truly blessed when it comes to her because thankfully she never had any of the normal girl drama.
and here is my "baby". I use that term loosely because he is 6'4" and pushing 300 lbs. He graduates high school in May.
when people ask where he got his height I joke that he got it from me. Obviously he stole all of my height because I'm 5' (5'1" if I have my tennis shoes on)
For reference here is a family photo from our skiing/snowboarding trip this past March...I'm the short one!
Now, where will we be staying? We have thrown around several options, including Port Orleans French Quarter, Caribbean Beach or Coronado Springs. However after talking with hubby, and a lot of thought, he said book Wilderness Lodge. EEK!!!!!! It’s one of my dream resorts so I am super excited. We are hoping to get a King room, but realize they aren’t bookable. So we will be happy no matter what we get. If we don’t get a good room only discount we may switch when free dining is released. It all boils down to what the room only discount I will have available. My hubby is a foodie, I am not. So paying out of pocket for food instead of free dining would be a better choice for us depending on where we stay and since Wilderness Lodge wasn't included in free dining this year that may cause us to change resorts when all that info is released.
