Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

We will be at AKL Jambo House 1/28-2/4! I am beyond excited! We are surprising our kids with this trip. We are no stranger to WDW but it has been a running joke in our family that I could never surprise them with a trip because I love to talk about planning constantly. Haha but we are doing it! We love eating at AKL but this is our first time staying. Can't wait!
.

We just booked a standard room at AKL for 2/16 - 2/23. My only request is for a bunk bed room (said it was a choice in room description) the view isn't as important for us. I called and put in the request but of course it's not guaranteed.

Is it right that a lot of the bunk bed rooms have been converted? How likely do you think it will be that we get one? Anything we can do to improve the chances? Now that my two boys are older it will be a disaster if they have to share.

Currently here on Kudo trail and room doesn’t appear to be renovated. Only thing different since our last trip are the installled shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower replacing the little bottles. Our balcony is inundated with lovebugs both dead and alive so we haven’t been enjoying the view as much to his trip. I did go down and ask if someone could clear the dead ones and sadly I can’t tell if they did because there were plenty more last night. On a positive note for those coming soon they’re dying!! Almost the end of love bug season 🤪

Are you in a DVC room or a hotel room ? The DVC rooms are not being renovated.

If a hotel room, do you have carpet on the floor or laminate flooring ? That is the easiest way to tell if you are in a refurbished room or not -- the refurb rooms do not have carpet.

Thanks to advice here I called in a request for a partial savannah view for our upcoming trip 1/11 - 1/15. Fingers crossed (but no expectations).

Could you add me to the list? I will be coming to stay at Jambo on Feb 4th to 11th, 2020. I retired Nov 2019. I have been to Disney for ten wonderful previous trips but this is my dream trip to stay at a Deluxe and especially at AKL! I booked a standard room when the discounts came out, wish I could afford a Savannah View but just glad to be staying here!

I had my first love bug infestation experience in May, and hope to never deal with that hell again, LOL! Couldn't enjoy the balcony at GF, too many bugs!

Hello ! so I have been reading over this thread and I have now almost given myself a panic attack. I know nothing! We have previously stayed at CBR in the past. This trip is celebrating our daughters 21st bday. She has special needs and told us the only thing she wanted was to have her first drink of alcohol in Disney World. So we said *expletive* it ! This girl always gets screwed all the time, and although she has had a blessed life it also been a very challenging one. So I booked AKL Savannah view with out knowing anything. She has such a kind heart and loves animals. The only thing I do know is she will take one sip of alcohol cringe and say she does not like that. So a VERY expensive first and last (knowing her ) adult beverage.
I'm looking for expert advice on what type of room request I should make. My concerns are about the walking distance to bus transportation and long waits. Again I went into this completely ignorant. At CBR we were always close to bus stops, and views there were not priority and waits weren't a problem. Would you just consider driving into parks in our situation? She does walk but has mild CP with balance issues so she is slower and just tires more easily. Is there a specific area in the hotel that will still give her a great viewing experience while keeping the distance to transportation easier for us? On top of that I'm reading about renovated rooms which appeals to me lol. I know we will have to prioritize and compromise but any expert advice from veterans is sincerely appreciated.
Thank you all, I love reading updates and I'm trying to educate myself as quickly as possible we will be there Dec 1- Dec 6. And I had no idea Star Wars ROTR was opening that week so lord help me!

I hope you have a wonderful time. If you are experienced w/ the distances at CBR, AKL should be manageable. The walk up to the bus stop has a slight incline, try it & if it’s too much after a day at the parks then switch to driving.
Have you considered doing one of the special animal programs? Lunch w/ an animal specialist at Sanaa, the pricey but so worth it Wanyama safari, the night time AKL drive through the savannas, or one of the AK programs?
The most convenient savanna view rooms that minimize walking would likely be on Zebra trail near the elevators, on this map that would be the second pod of rooms which overlook Arusha savanna or even the pod that juts out from Zebra trail separating the pool & Uzima savanna.

Hi! Sorry no advice on the rooms (I stayed in a pool view room once which was super close to everything and Kidani which was a marathon walk everyday). In terms of alcohol, just watch the Strawberry Margaritas. My wife hates the taste of any alcohol but she loves those and starts to fell really good after a couple. Don't want your daughter getting smacked up drinking those!

Hi

does anyone have the email address for AKL I wanted to contact the hotel direct to try get a part savanna view for our honeymoon next month ?

any updates on the room rennos at AKL? have the done the zebra trail on the third floot yet ? anyone?
We checked out on Sunday from a Savanna view room on Zebra 3rd floor. It was a renovated room on the wing adjacent to the pool facing Uzima (requested Arusha). All rooms past the wing to the pool/elevator were still blocked off. We could see construction vehicles but since we were there on the weekend they were never working. Saw soooob many animals and loved our view and room location!

I don't believe that any of the resorts have direct email address for this type of things (unless you go through Touring Plans but I believe those emails were just given to Touring Plans and are not distributed or for guest queries), if you want to add a request you can just call the reservations line and have it added. Congratulations!

We just got back from a long trip, 9/29 - 10/7, and our first stay at AKL. I wanted to share our experience! We rented DVC points for a savanna-view studio in Jambo House. We absolutely loved it. It's such a great resort for kids (my daughter turned five on our trip), I don't know why Disney doesn't market it that way more often. She loved doing the activities that are available throughout the resort, especially the animal enrichment one where she got to put worms into toys for the savanna birds to "hunt". The animal specialist that supervised the activity then took the toys out to the savanna so the kids could see the birds using what they made. It was really neat, and the folks running the activities had endless patience for small kids who can't read but want to pretend they can, had a million questions, and generally didn't really want to follow the directions. :rotfl2:

Even though I stay pretty current with Disney Parks info, my brain can't seem to maintain resort info, so I'm not up on what all the trails are called or what would be an indication that our room was renovated or not. I think we were in the Giraffe trail? Room 5310. I can tell you that it was very far from the lobby, which always stinks after a long park day or when you want to go get something to eat, but we're used to it by now at Disney. I always request "Close to Lobby" at every resort we stay in and never get it! I think POFQ is calling our name for our next visit!

We did have the new big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in our room. But we also had the small body lotion bottles next to the sinks! (And bar soap, of course) I know that was something I was concerned about as it had been reported that some people weren't getting them anymore.

We also had trash service almost every day. There was a card in our room noting that this was a new service they were providing to DVC rooms since they are doing daily room checks now.

I know there's a lot of back and forth on the bus service from AKL, especially to MK. I went into it opened minded, knowing that you can experience weird blips and delays for the buses from anywhere. But honestly, we did see kind of crappy service to MK. We would sit there at the MK stop and watch three buses go by for Epcot, four for Hollywood, two for Animal Kingdom, and none for MK. While the crowd built and built. This happened several times, not a one-off. We would absolutely stay at AKL again, the bus service is no reason to not stay there, but would definitely plan lots of extra time to get to MK. On the other hand, bus service to the other three resorts seemed really consistent and fast.

We also got a bit tired of Mara after awhile. We loved the food there, it was fantastic (especially the falafel platter!), but we wished for another quick service option. We solved it by ordering food from the parks on our way out on a few nights and bringing it back to the room to heat up and eat later. The DVC room was really nice in that regard — having the microwave, toaster, and sink was so helpful! We ate at Jiko and Sanaa while we were there and the food at both was excellent. It was our first time at Jiko and if I had to choose between the two (Sanaa being a favorite of ours) I would choose Jiko! The food and service were both so amazing.

Lastly, every single CM we encountered at AKL was wonderful. So kind and knowledgable. We really really loved our stay here. We are trying to stay at all of the resorts eventually, but AKL is going to be really hard to top! Since this got so long I'll share some room and resort photos in the next post.
