Josh Duggar's Trial Begins Today... GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS!

I'm reluctant to go into details because it touches upon religion and some very strong views which the Duggars' sect has and I don't want to get points. But you can do a Google search and find out pretty easily.
OK, I looked up William Clayman. I wouldn't say he's a member of a "community" as I feel that's a bit old fashioned. It must squig Mr. Clayman out a bit that his husband's name is also Joshua :crazy2: .

It will be interesting to see where he is sent. The nearest Federal facility with a sex-offender program is in Seagoville, TX (near Dallas); about a 6 hour drive from the home where Anna lives.
That one is low-security, which is the most likely level he would be assigned. There is also a medium-security facility that houses such offenders that is located in Marianna, FL; that one is about 4 hours from where Anna's parents live. Those would be the 2 closest to allow family to visit most easily, but I wonder if, given the level of enabling the family has done, if it might be decided to deliberately put distance between him and Arkansas in order to make visiting him difficult. The maximim sentence he could get is 40 years, but the odds are that he won't get the maximum; my guess would be 20 years, to allow his kids to reach adulthood before he is released.

Another interesting question at this point is if we will see the Arkansas DCFS now open an investigation to determine if his own children have been victimized.

Something else I wonder: Jim-Bob is a pretty venal kind of guy, and is widely known to have a really explosive temper. I wonder if there is any possibility that he might encourage Anna to leave NW Arkansas, in order to essentially remove Josh and his nuclear family from the Duggar narrative. Her parents live on a large plot of land in rural Florida, but do not have much money; one scenario could be that she could be encouraged to move back there and given enough money to build a home on their land, where they could help her raise the children. (If her parents have any sense at all, they will insist that JB provide her with ongoing child-support payments; it's not like Josh is going to be sending them any money.)

The Duggars will move Anna and the kids to be near whichever facility he’s sent to, if necessary, and they’ll probably send one or two of their older girls along to chaperone Anna help with the children. They follow the teachings of Michael and Debi Pearl (you know, the ones who advocate beating children with rods and “breaking their will” and hitting babies in order to train them to stay on a blanket so a woman can get household chores done without interruption. The ones whose abusive teachings have been responsible for the deaths of three?, I believe, children.) This is what Debi Pearl has to say about what a wife should do when her husband is molesting the kids:

“If your husband ever sexually handles your children, call the authorities. Testify against him in court, and pray that he gets at least twenty years in prison, so that the children will be grown when he gets out.

Visit him there, and be an encouragement to him.

Get him books and tapes on good [redacted] teaching, and let him see the children three or four times a year in the prison visiting area. Children heal better from sexual assaults when they know the perpetrators (even their fathers) are punished for it. They’re also less likely to follow in his steps.”

When he’s released, the wife is supposed to welcome him home and pick right back up being subservient and “joyfully available,” of course.

The two charges each carry a maximum of 20 years, but they would be served concurrently so there’s no chance he’d be in there for more than 20. However, the general consensus among “the experts” seems to be that he’ll be sentenced to about 7 years. He’ll still have young children at home when he gets out in that case.

I'm not sure that the Duggars would move Anna and the children to be near him regardless of location. Yes, they admire the Pearls, but they admire themselves even more, and JB is tight with money. Josh has been a ball & chain on the brand for 6 years, but this morning he became a very large anchor, and I would not put it past them to move to diminish contact in order to encourage the public to forget about him before the entire ship sinks. The option of enlisting the Kellers in that effort makes a whole lot of sense, as it would keep Josh's family in the proper faith context, but remove them from the direct orbit of the rest of the Duggar family and their associated fame.

Question - I didn't follow this closely, or at all really...have they tracked down any of those that distributed the porn? What is the status of the victims that were depicted in what he possessed. Are those children safe now?
I can only speak to the outcome of the one video I was discussing earlier in the thread. The man who made it is serving life in a Philippine prison. The Philippines considered bringing back the death penalty for this man because his crimes were just that heinous. Some of his known victims were saved, but I know at least one of them did not survive.

I couldn't figure out a good way to explain it without getting into the nitty gritty of religious stuff and I wanted to avoid that. And also don't want to offend anyone on any end of the religious & political spectrum, but yes...lead prosecutor has a same-gender spouse.

I feel like he things that he will get off on the appeal...or he's high or something lol. The whole family is nuts, so who knows what goes on in their heads.

I agree. He and his parents are tone deaf, they have no clue how horrid people KNOW they are. I hope Josh is in there a very long time but if not... I TRULY TRULY hope he is given a very rough ride every second of every moment he is in prison. I want every second to feel like an eternity to him. I want him to open his eyes every day knowing he has no reason to ever smile again.

I remember hearing he was offered a plea deal early on but didn't take it. Does anyone know what that deal was? I bet he now wishes he had taken it!! Just think of the money Jim Bob could have saved.

Yes, I’m feeling extra snarky today. I also blame JB and Michelle in all of this. They knew what he had done when he was a teenager and didn’t get him the appropriate help.

Actually, to give credit where credit is due, he wasn't the lead prosecutor; he's not based in Arkansas. The lead prosecutor was the Asst. US Attorney for W. Arkansas, Carly Marshall. 2d chair was Dustin Roberts, also AUSA W. Ark. Clayman was 3d chair. (These sorts of cases being his specialty, he works to back up teams where he is needed.)

I read 10 years. So he should get at least that, right?

so happy the jury made the right decision.

It’s rare these days that when a verdict on a high profile case comes in that we are all in agreement. I don’t think I have read 1 comment from someone who thought he should have been found not guilty.
Enjoy it on this one. I’m sure we will all be arguing of the next one. 😂
