Justback

This thread has taken a very weird turn. I enjoy having a drink at the parks and really haven’t encountered issues with people drinking, but who wants/needs to defend public drunkenness? It’s an odd hill to defend.

OP, I’m glad that you had a good trip overall, and I appreciate you sharing your feedback. I’m sorry that your thread has gone a bit off the rails.

This is just a really odd argument supporting drunk people, if you ask me. Adults should know better than children (I don't even have kids, but give kids a LOT more leeway than adults for bad behavior because they are *kids*) on how to act in public, so.

I was thinking the same thing... I don’t even know how to respond really. Just a weird thing to get all defensive about in a trip report post based on the point of view from a family with young kids. You don’t like strollers or ecv’s? Fine. You feel defensive because you personally prefer drunk adults to children? Fine. I don’t agree but everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose.

But please don’t try and taint my vacation and trip report with these not so veiled insults about children annoying you at Disneyland. I would never go on someone else’s trip report and shame them for drinking alcohol and tell them that I prefer sober people to drunk people. Or that I hate their ecv. So weird.

I luckily haven't encountered it, either, but I occasionally see people mention seeing inebriated folks at the parks on this forum.

To be fair, this is the first time we have ever experienced it. It was our first food and wine festival so it was easy to blame it on that, but something definitely felt different than the normal alcohol consumption we’ve experienced at DCA. I don’t know if it was because Coachella started last weekend and so people were in town “pregaming” at Disneyland or what, but something was different. Like big groups of people all noticeably drunk... or maybe high? I’m not sure.

I do like Food and Wine as it is a different park experience that we look forward to every year. However, alcohol is definitely way more accessible to more people when it is sold in booths along the main walkway like that. I have gone with local family and friends who are not Disney people and just want to experience it for that. So I do think your inclinations are mostly correct. I've experienced it at Epcot's Food and Wine too. I like to drink at Disney, but it's a much more enjoyable experience in DTD or at the Disneyland Hotel.

I'm sure your next trip will be a better experience in terms of this!

Definitely avoid the F&W Festival at Epcot/WDW. Especially weekend nights. It's like a gross frat party.
We've witnessed disgusting things several times and now avoid it completely. Just doing that completely changed our F&W experience. We love it.

Glad you had a wonderful trip. Ignore the annoying comments. Completely ignore and give it zero fuel.

It sounds like the crowds were amazing! I'm glad you had a great trip, despite a few unpleasant moments. I am happy that F&W will be over by the time we visit. It would maybe be fun as adults (even though we don't drink) but with a bunch of kids in tow, I'll be glad for the bottlenecking to be gone! :)

I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand about it. Just like you don’t like ecvs, strollers, or “entitled children”... some people don’t like being around drunk entitled adults. To each their own.
Agree 100%. Do people need to drink all of the time or to have a good time? If so, there are tens of thousands of bars. Find one. More to the point, if you need alcohol to have fun, perhaps there's a problem that should be investigated.

There's a time and place for everything. What if you're, say, a church-goer and one morning several parishioners arrived drunk -- because it made church more fun? Would that bother you? If not, I'd lay a $50,000 bet that it would bother nearly everyone else there.

Glad to hear it. I've only encountered a few drunks at the park. The last time, several F-bombs were dropped -- loudly! And one of them ran into another guest quite aggressively. Park security soon had them zeroed and escorted out of the park.

A friend works at the DL/DCA ticket booths. She tells me that she sees guests have their annual passes revoked regularly for being drunk and misbehaved in either of the parks. Some of them that don't have their passes yanked are still nasty/abusive towards CMs. There's no place for that in DL. One of the reasons that I like to visit the park so often is that nearly everyone is in a good mood and is kind towards their fellow guests. There's no reason to place that positive environment in jeopardy. It needs to be preserved and encouraged. Will alcohol necessarily destroy it? Probably not. But there's no good reason to take the risk. Again, there are literally thousands of places for people to drink... home being one of them.

Well, then, it seems that the best strategy for the puke-adverse would be to avoid any park with children in it, and perhaps complain on the internet that the parks are ruined by all the children running around like crazy and vomiting in the walkways. Reducing drunk adult vomiting only addresses the issue at the margins. The real cure needs to be getting rid of the kids. [/modestproposal]

Post of the year! You win the internet :)

Thanks for giving me a chuckle with a moderate dose of realise for some folks

Glad to see this thread getting back on topic. Let's keep it that way and keep the arguing at a minimum. This is about the OP's trip, NOT about people's views on alcohol, lack of moderation, and the consequences thereof.
The OP had a great trip and has lots of things to share about it. Let's focus on that!

Oh my goodness! You reminded me of a joke that entails St. Peter and a taffy pulling contest! LOL

And DCA being another :)
Yup. I'm aware. it's the primary contributing factor in drunken/misbehaved guests having their APs revoked. I don't like that Disney both enables and punishes drinking. OK -- sorry @theluckyrabbit I'll stop now :-). I promise.

Let me add something on-topic, though: Yes, the crowds (or the lack thereof) last Sunday were fantastic. I mentioned this to a few CMs I know. They suggested that low crowds were due to Coachella® and spring break as it begins to wind down. I hope that crowds are as light this weekend. The high for Sunday is now only 67°, which is just about perfect for me :-). Woo hoo!

This weekend may be good as Coachella is going on again this weekend.

Right! I forgot. Even better. Sunday is also Easter. However, in the past I've used various events (Super Bowl, Oscars, a holiday) as a reason to expect low crowds. It's never, ever been an accurate predictor. The only thing I've found that works is weather. Rain keeps crowds lower.

I really don’t understand the hate for people being drunk and having a good time

DCA has always been a park more geared to adults (a great thing)

I’d swap double width prams, ECV’s, entitled children and kids on shoulders during shows, for drunk adults having a good time, any day of the week

1) Some of us don't think the idea of a Disney park for adults is "a great thing." There are plenty of other parks that are better for older, taller people. I come to Disney for family fun. Even when I went with my friends as a single, childless USC student, a Disneyland trip was intended to capture the wonder of childhood again. Disney should be for the young at heart--and I reject any concept of being "young at heart" from anyone who doesn't enjoy being around the actually, bona fide young.
2) Like parks that are better for older people, I have plenty of places I can go to be around drunk adults. Vegas comes to mind, for one. Plenty of adults-only resorts, too. I don't need to pay Disney prices to be around drunks.
Thanks, OP, for letting me know to avoid Food & Wine.

No we didn’t in the moment. I’m curious to know how we would do that? I’ve always just assumed you had to go to city hall to report anything so as to not take away from our time together on vacation, I usually just write an email after the fact (which I’ve already done). But I’m not going to lie, I only seem to remember the names of the cms that were amazing and I’ve already sang their praises to Disney and got a response saying they will forward the recognition onto their leadership teams. And I mean, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a trip ruiner by any means, just was something I don’t remember seeing before and would love for Disney to polish up.

Let that Dumbo guy have it.

Thanks for your report! We'll be there shortly, and the weather seems like it could be what you experienced if the forecasts hold up. How did you guys dress? T-shirts and shorts or jeans? Hoodies at night? Did you need anything heavier? We're coming from NY and we're in the season where some days its flip flop weather and other days its parka weather. lol!
