Las Vegas Shooting

The argument that if it's not a gun it'll be something else just doesn't make sense to me. If all those other options people mention are just as easy and effective then why are they using guns? It really does seem to be it's the easiest and most effective way to carry out these horrible mass murders.
I love how people say oh he'll just make a bomb, like it's really just that simple.
He'll just get the guns illegally is another one. Yeah, he might but there's actually a chance to catch him before the attack if he has to do suspicious and/or illegal things to prepare.

Those arguments always get me too. We've had laws against murder forever, but people still kill others. So should we do away with all laws?

Like many people, I don't want a gun. I have no desire to even hold one. But I understand that others don't feel the same way. Like many people, when I talk about gun control I don't mean do away with all guns, but I want there to be more restrictions on how many you can buy, how much ammo you can buy, and I would like there to be more safety classes required before you can buy one. We have databases for purchases of Sudafed and drugs like that, but a man can go and stockpile guns and ammo so he can shoot and kill a lot of people.

Something has to change.

Who exactly am I causing harm to? What is the problem what me discussing it? How is it directly affecting the investigation?

It is a FACT that Valium (and other psychiatric medications) can cause aggressive behavior in some people. And the shooter did have a history of mental illness in his family.

Pretty sure that describes about 99% of Americans....a history of mental illness somewhere in the family. I have it in mine. I'm NO danger to anyone just because a relative may have had a mental illness.

Is there anyone on Earth who doesn't have someone in their family with mental illness? Cousin, Uncle, Grandmother, niece, daughter, etc?

Erin, you are desperately reaching. Why?

Just curious, why those particular restrictions? One person can only shoot one gun at a time, so I don't see how reducing the # one person has would do anything. Also curious on the ammo idea. I get the classes & training ideas, but practice means using ammo. And if you're going to get good, it means using LOTS of ammo. Most folks I know go through a minimum of 300 rounds per practice session.

Are you serious? You think 1st degree premeditated murder on a mass scale was his only crime? I"m not a lawyer but I'm certain there are more laws he broke in the process of killing 50+ people and injuring 500+. If he were alive I'm guessing there would be charges for shooting out the hotel window, I'm sure there would be some firearms charges there (even if his firearms were all legally obtained (doubtful), 1st degree murder, 1st degree assault, I'm sure there are more.
I am serious. As far as I know, all his guns were obtained legally and modified legally. He didn’t shoot out the hotel windows, he broke them with a hammer.

Which is why DH has such a hard time getting me to go the range. I hate shooting all that money away.

I had brought up a discussion here on the disboards about security at resorts a year or so ago because so many of these awful terror attacks are going on. I don't think many people agreed with me at the time but after Las Vegas I started thinking about that discussion again. I was last at WDW in 2014 and stayed at 3 different on-site resorts and never had my luggage x-rayed, inspected, or examined. Of course, I wouldn't have minded if they had been. I just keep seeing a terrible scenario of terrorists checking into one of the big resorts there, booked at capacity, and having enough explosives in their luggage to take the whole resort down, right there in the middle of America's greatest family park! That would be a massive attack. So, now, after Las Vegas, and seeing how easily that was done, I think WDW really needs to implement some major security procedures at their resorts. I woundn't mind them going all through my luggage in the effort to insure everybody's safety.

Off on a tangent here, but I have heard that kinder eggs are banned? You guys should try them! Yummy chocolate and little toys inside :)

Doubt it. This is a state matter really. I doubt the state does it. However, his estate is probably not going to cover whatever lawsuits there will be. Not just families of the deceased but everyone who was injured.

It will be a meaningless amount of $$ in the scheme of things. Nearly 60 dead, over 500 injured....massive medical bills. Meaningless. It SHOULD be given to them, it's just on a per capita basis, it won't amount to hardly anything especially after the lawyers are paid.

They are illegal in the US.

I was researching this after my exchange student (from Germany where they are made) was commenting on the irony of a child not being able to get kinder eggs, but they can get guns. Anyway, you will all be pleased to learn that effective a couple of days ago, the company will have a new product available which DOES pass muster in the US. KinderJoy will have two separate halves...one chocolate, and one plastic with the toy inside.

Destruction of private property, aggravated assault - firearm x 500+...

Yeah, more plastic to trash the planet and less melt in your mouth joy for the kids... Great regulations we have in US!

They are illegal in the US.

Not quite "illegal". They're legal to purchase, if you can find someone who's smuggled them in. And legal to consume, obviously.

You just can't legally import them, though plenty of American retailers were selling Kinder Eggs and their knock-offs on an "unauthorized" basis already.

And, starting next year, they will be sold legally in US stores!

They'll be called "Kinder Joy" and should be on your store shelves, soon.

The Kinder Joy are disgusting - they are like eating frosting. Not the same as Kinder Eggs. The eggs are illegal to sell in stores. I have found a few places though.

I heard that he wasn't a high roller at all but played video poker. High rollers play table games. He did like to gamble and did earn comps but I don't see him as a high roller, from what I've read in the news.

High limit rooms in Vegas have machines in them also. A casino isn't going to turn down money, particularly from a high roller.

Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony -- illegal no matter how the firearm was obtained.
