And I am a nervous wreck! In a nut shell, I am 56 and started getting slight double vision in my left eye last year. My contact prescription for my left eye went from a -2.50 to a -3.50. This year my right eye is the same, -2.25 as last year. My left eye is off the chart. After seeing a specialist, I am a top candidate for the PanOptix Trifocal lens. From what I have been told and read, My vision will be brighter, sharper and clearer once this is done but that still does not ease the anxiety I am feeling over this surgery. I am told that I will be awake. Really? So the surgeon will put a knife to my eyeball while I am awake! Sounds fun, not! So tomorrow morning at 7:45 I am going through with it but not looking forward to it. Anyone with advise or experience please feel free to chime in!

My DH just went through cataract surgery, which sounds very similar. He had both eyes done as 2 separate procedures/dates; he had sedation both times and doesn't remember anything from the first but had some vague awareness with the 2nd. No pain and no problems with his recovery. I hope your procedure goes well!

It's the same thing, I just "feel" too young at 56 to call it "Cataracts" lol

Be happy that we live in an age where such marvels of medicine are possible. A hundred years ago you would have just had to live with your condition.

Well, I'm home! Arrived at the surgery center at 7:45. Was taken back around 8:15 and was prepped for surgery. Eye numbing drops, IV, and pep talk lol. They took be back and things started moving really fast. They started the meds and besides seeing all sorts of pretty lights, I felt nothing. I was 100% awake but the meds they gave me were great! They could have told me they were about to cut my arm off and I would have just said "okay, have fun!" LOL. Now for the recovery. Everything is so bright due to me still being dilated but I can already tell I can see better that I could with my contact lens. My eye is sore and it feels like something is in it but I can't rub it which is driving me bananas! Now to relax and binge watch Law and Order.

Great to hear. And, I also had "cataract" surgery in my mid 50's. It was because I am on steroids long term for RA and lungs. Steroids are great, but not so great!!

It's so amazing now. I just had my 1 week followup and I have 20/20 vision now in the eye I had operated on. I am going to get the other done in January.

My sister & brother in law had this done and now they are discovering that this will need to be repeated in a few years which doctors did not mention beforehand . Is this true? I guess it makes sense. Thanks for starting this discussion. I would feel the same way as you and good to know you had a good experience .

Not sure what procedure they had but the PanOptix intraocular lens I had implanted is a lifetime lens. It's a trifocal with 4 focal points, one focal point is just for light distribution however that works lol. either way, my vision is awesome!
