Hello! Welcome to M&M's Magical Disney Christmas Vacation Trip Report!

The cast:
Me - Mal (30)
Roomie (33)
Occasional appearances by my extended family and some local friends!
Travelling from Northeast Mississippi by car. (10 hours!)

Resort: Disney's All Star Music - standard room

We received our ready room text at about 2:15pm or so, which might seem late to some, but I had indicated on our online check-in we wouldn't be arriving until after 5pm, so I doubt we were high on the early check-in priority list. We actually arrived at the resort somewhere around 6pm, used our magic bands to zip past the massive back up at the resort gate and made use of the returning guest lane, and headed straight to the room.

IMG_6377.JPG

After requesting a room in the Broadway section (local community theatre geeks here!), we were actually surprised to get a room in the Jazz section. I was previously under the impression that the Jazz section only had preferred and family suites, but after poking around the Touring Plans room selection tool, I discovered our room was indeed a standard. We were in room 9633, which is in Jazz Building 9, third floor, back corner by the parking lot. I like to think we got a little pixie dusted on this room, because it was SILENT All. The. Time., and if you looked at my dates, we were indeed staying in a Value resort during (gasp!) the dreaded Pop Warner!

After bringing up all our bags, we took a little walking tour of the resort and then headed to the concierge to get a map and recreation schedule. I had intended to watch the "Movie Under the Stars", but we ended up having dinner in the resort with a local friend and just hanging out in the room, catching up on everything.

As for Pop Warner, I've got to say, it was not as terrible as I thought it would be. We were fully prepared to just suffer through it because the only reason we were getting to vacation this long on property was because we were staying in a value resort. The pools stayed pretty covered up and kinda loud when they were open, but honestly, we were in the parks when they were having pool time for the most part. The only reason I even know they were like that was because on our Animal Kingdom day (park closed at 7pm), we were back at the resort for supper and generally relaxing during the evening pool hours. The kids were relatively well behaved, no shenanigans after "lights out" with the exception of one prank phone call somewhere around 12:30am, but we had actually just arrived back in our room after MVMCP, so we were still up. After Roomie unceremoniously hung up on them without engaging their antics, they didn't call back. Of course, this is just me assuming it was Pop Warner kids. It could have been regular kids for all we know, but it was the only time that happened.

The food court did stay pretty packed, but we didn't eat there much at all. We had supper there on arrival night and then again on our Animal Kingdom day, and both times were not really prime supper times. It was after 8pm both times, so while it was busy, it was far from unmanageable. I had pizza for supper both times, and it was delicious.

As for the bus service, I found the service FROM our resort to parks was great. We never had to wait for a second bus, most of the time a bus arrived going where we needed within 5 minutes, and I love that there are now the times boards posted by the bus stops so you know when to expect the next bus. When we stayed at Pop Century 2 years ago, I don't remember having these. The only time we picked up at an additional All Star resort was our last park day, and it was probably just because it was super early (somewhere around 7am since we had a tour scheduled at Magic Kingdom). We encountered a few rude guests trying to do things like save seats for part of their group that was 20 people behind them in line, but that was definitely the exception, not the rule. Most people had their parties together and were pretty prompt. On the other hand, the bus service TO our resort from the parks seemed to take 8,000 years. We weren't sharing buses really from the parks, so I don't know what the problem was, but there was almost never a time where the bus was there within 30 minutes, much less 20 minutes as is advertised.

We did make use of the laundry facilities by the Calypso pool a couple of times, because let's be real, your girl does not have enough pants and/or other unmentionable bits of clothing to make it through 9 days without doing laundry. The machines were all in good working order except I think one which was clearly labeled as out of service, and using the credit card machine to choose your machine was very easy. We took our own Tide pods and dryer sheets, but there was vending for both if you needed it. The washer cycle was $3 per machine for about 40 minutes, and then I think the dryer was $3 as well for 1 hour, which was plenty of time to get a load dry. We did laundry on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday night, and while Tuesday was a ghost town, Thursday night was apparently a popular laundry time.

Overall, I'd absolutely stay here again. Is it the greatest resort and/or room ever? Obviously not, but if you're on a budget, and really just need a clean room with a comfy enough bed and shower, it fits the bill. It does show its age and dare I say neglect in a few areas. Not all the neon was working on some of the signs, and not all the walkways and stairwells are pristine like they would be in a newer resort.

So that's the low down on our resort experience. There is much more to come, including play by plays of each day and ALL THE FOOD we ate. Seriously, so. much. food.

Day 1 - An easy breezy day (that I should have planned for mid-trip!!!)

Sunday, December 4th

So our plan for this day started off relatively simple. Outlet shopping, then dinner/sleigh ride plans with our local friend. What actually went down was that after a conversation the previous night with said local friend, we discovered he had some leftover comp tickets to Sea World (he worked there seasonally this past summer), and they were going to expire at the end of the year. Well, neither he, roomie, nor I actually wanted to go, but I asked if I could give them to my family who was in town, to which he agreed. So to start the morning, we picked up my local friend and his comp tickets in Clermont then drove to Disney Springs to meet my family and hand off the tickets. That all went down relatively easily, minus my poor timing. We were about 20 minutes later than I asked my family to meet us, but they didn't seem too miffed. After all, they were going to Sea World for free!

After a successful ticket hand-off, roomie, local friend, and I headed to the Disney Character Warehouse on International Drive. We got there just as it was opening, and apparently it was a very popular spot to be!

Image-1 (1).jpgImage-1.jpg

Once we were inside, it was BANANAS, but so, so fun. I got SO MANY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS! I didn't take pictures once we were inside, but here's some examples of what I got:

Men's Disney Pullover - regular $64.95 - sale $24.99 (Saw this exact pullover later in the week at AKL for $54.95 o_O)
Nightmare Before Christmas tee - regular $24.95 - sale $11.99
Women's Mickey Sweatshirt - regular $44.95 - sale $19.99
Ladies Scarves - regular $21.95 - Sale $4.99 - $5.99
Avengers Art Set - regular $18.95 - Sale $7.99
Disney Baby Twisty Toy Things (no clue, I don't have kids, but it goes on the carrier thing and will be my new niece's Christmas present) - regular $32.95 - sale $9.99
Sally (from Nightmare Before Christmas) ear hat ornament - regular $24.95 - sale $7.99
Holiday tapestry throw - regular $74.95 - sale $19.99
Girly Disney pencils and eraser sets - regular $8.95 - sale $2.99
2016 Graduation Mickey ears (for my cousin who just graduated college on the 9th) regular $24.95 - sale $1.99
Alice in Wonderland Tea Bag Set - regular $32.95 - sale $5.99

I mean I went to town! I came out with a HUGE BAG OF STUFF, and most of that was Christmas presents and a graduation present, so I was pretty stoked.

So after I got on a major bargain shopping high, we headed to the other Disney Character Warehouse on Vineland, but it was a bust. Pretty much had the same stuff, and then the things it had that International Drive didn't weren't marked down as much. I had gone into it expecting that though from what I'd read online.

Our shopping done, we grabbed lunch at TGIFriday's (don't hate, we don't have one here!) and then decided to make use of our mini golf vouchers, OR AT LEAST WE WOULD HAVE IF THEY WEREN'T IN MY HOUSE ON THE COFFEE TABLE WHERE I LEFT THEM! GAH!

After beating myself up a little, we arrived at Winter Summerland!

IMG_6392.JPG

This was super cute! First of all, there is a sleigh perfect for photos right at the front. Behold, roomie and I! Roomie is on the left, I'm cheesin' on the right.

IMG_6390.JPG

The course is very cute. We did the Winter side, naturally, since we were all about the Christmas. There are cute little poems about the hole, and most are challenging but not frustratingly so.

IMG_6393.JPG

I was genuinely shocked by how few people were there. I guess I just thought, "Hmm Disney Mini Golf, and most people got free vouchers, it'll be pretty crowded!" NOPE. We rarely had a party ahead of us making our way through the course.

After mini golf, we went back to the resort to drop off packages and use the Disney transportation for our evening plans. BIG MISTAKE.

So we had a 6:40pm reservation at Beaches & Cream at Disney's Beach Club Resort. My plan was for us to catch whatever the first park bus we saw was, then switch from there to Beach Club. Sounds okay in theory, yes? Well, we chose the Animal Kingdom bus, and once we arrived at the bus depot, we got in line for Beach Club. And waited.... and waited... and waited... FOR ALMOST AN HOUR for a bus. The party ahead of us in the bus line had been there OVER an hour. We were so late for our table. I mean like half an hour late before we even got off the bus at Beach Club. I had called the reservation line trying to get somebody to tell them we were coming but stuck waiting on a bus, but they gave me the standard spiel of "You have a 15 minute grace window," and as totally not comforting as that was to hear, I knew it wouldn't matter. There was no way we were making this reservation. Once the bus finally comes, I spend the whole ride preparing my sob story for the host at the restaurant hoping that we can still eat there. I had my heart set on it, and I was going to be so disappointed if we had to miss out.

Luckily, the very nice host at Beaches & Cream did not even bat an eye when we arrived. He gave us a pager, said it might be a few minutes, and pointed us to a waiting area. The pager went off probably less than 5 minutes later. I mean, I wanted to cry by this point. Not only we were getting to eat there, but I wasn't getting charged the no show fee, and we would still make our 9:00pm sleigh ride at Fort Wilderness.

Beaches & Cream was PHENOMENAL. Roomie and I split a patty melt (because let's be real, it's all about dessert!) and then I got a banana split. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

IMG_6411.JPG

I don't have pictures of Roomie's or local friend's desserts, but they got the No Way Jose and the Fudge Mud Slide respectively. I tried bites of both, and they were to die for as well.

With our bellies full, I was taking no chances on making our sleigh ride, so we took a cab to Fort Wilderness. Once there, I was a little confused because I had no idea how to get to the Tri Circle D Ranch, but we found a helpful cast member who directed us to the internal bus station, and off we went. On our way from the Settlement bus station to the area to check in to the sleigh ride, we passed a group of Hoop de Doo performers, one of which gave Roomie and I the most charming "Evening, ladies" I have ever experienced, and we practically floated to the check in for the sleigh ride. Whew, makes me blush just thinking about it.

We checked in for our sleigh ride probably 5 minutes before our 9pm reservation. The cast member let us know there were a few parties ahead of us, but we shouldn't have to wait more than 10 to 15 minutes. We took a seat on the benches and watched other parties arrive and depart. All the horses are HUGE and beautiful, and the sleighs were all decorated so nicely. Once it was our turn, we loaded up and away we went! This is Troy, our escort for the evening. He weighs about 2000 pounds!

IMG_6420.JPG

We saw so many beautiful Christmas displays, all done by the campers themselves. It was hard to get any good pictures since you're constantly in motion, and my cell phone doesn't take great low light pictures, but this is the best picture I got of one of the most fully decorated campsites:

IMG_6422.JPG

Overall, we LOVED the sleigh ride. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was just so festive, and the decorations are so neat to see. It also made me reiterate to Roomie that when we retire, I wanna be little old spinsters who camp at Disney. I can see it now, we check in every year and the cast members tell each other, "Oh that's Miss D and Miss G, they come here every year. They've been best friends for 40 years!"

Just when I thought our evening was wrapping up, we headed to the dock to go to Magic Kingdom to catch our bus home, and lo and behold, if the Electric Water Pageant didn't show up right on cue! I'd never seen it before! It was so cute, and filled a little bit of my longing for the now gone Main Street Electrical Parade.

After the pageant, we got on our boat to Magic Kingdom, and what? Is that fireworks? Dad gum if we didn't also catch the MVMCP fireworks from the boat! Once we docked, we stood outside Magic Kingdom and watched the remainder of the show, then hoofed it to the bus stop to stay ahead of any exiting MVMCP crowd. When we got to the bus stop, I told Roomie and local friend, "Y'all, we could not have stumbled upon that any better!!!"

So it was a fabulous first day, practically perfect in every way, save one bus-initiated meltdown. My only regret was that we didn't have this day in the middle of our trip. It would have been a nice relaxed day in the middle of all our can-to-can't days, but alas, hindsight is 20/20. :thumbsup2

Joining! That really does sound like a perfect first day :goodvibes We've been down 3x during the Xmas season including this past Thanksgiving week but I've never thought about doing the Ft. Wilderness sleigh ride. It actually looks really fun! And we do enjoy the Winter Summerland golf course, we've done the winter side twice and need to get back and do the summer side.
Looking forward to reading more :)

The sleigh ride was one of those things that I stumbled upon on some list of things to do at Disney during the holidays, and I just could not get it out of my head. I don't even know why, because I don't have just an amazing love of horses or anything, but it just looked so cozy and festive! I'm so glad I booked it, and I appreciated that our sleigh driver was very receptive to us as far as reading the group to know if we wanted to engage in conversation the whole time or when to let us talk amongst ourselves. She struck a really nice balance of giving us just enough backstory on the horse, telling about campers decorating, and then letting us ooh and ahh and discuss what we saw. It was just super relaxing and felt so Christmas-y!

I'm so jelly you got to go to Winter Summerland! We had the vouchers too, but just never fit it in. I wondered if WS was slower because Blizzard Beach was closed.
Also, we saw the horse and carriage ride when we were at FW after HDDR. DH totally wanted to do it until he found out you needed reservations. He asked that we do it on our next trip because it looks so cool and he has camper envy. LOL

Dude! The camper envy is real! Some of those folks had setups that rival my actual house! Also did y'all see any of the decorated golf carts parked around when y'all were there? I just loved that the campers get so into the spirit!

Day 2 - Uh ohs and mehs...

Monday, December 5th - Magic Kingdom Day (the first of 3!)

So the night before, I got a text from my dad that they were probably not going to make rope drop with us. (Shocker!) Roomie and I were up at seemingly the crack of dawn because we were so excited and ready to go, and we were standing in front of Magic Kingdom by about 8:20am and waiting for the Welcome Show. This was only the second time we had seen it, and the first time we saw it, it was sort of an abridged version because the Railroad was down for refurb at the time, so that was fun! Once inside, we joined the mad dash to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, since we didn't have a fast pass for it that day. (We had previously planned to be at Universal this day before a price hike and the fact we thought we would get a shot at discounted or comp tickets from our local friend, but weren't able to.) Once we got to 7DMT, we decided that we did not have it in us to fight the masses, so we headed to Liberty Square instead for our first of many, many Haunted Mansion visits. It's Roomie's absolute favorite ride (as you can tell by her shirt)! When we finished up there, we watched the new Muppet show, which I thought was super cute. We saw the story about Paul Revere, and strangely, I thought they alternated those stories, and maybe they do but we just hit it just right, but every time we went by, it was Paul Revere.

After that, we headed to Adventureland and hit Pirates and the Jingle Cruise. We had an awesome skipper at Jingle Cruise, and she had us doubled over with laughter. When we finished up there, my family was set to arrive, so we headed back to the front of the park to meet them. Naturally, roomie and I hit a Photopass photographer on the way.

MK_MSCASEYS_20161205_7883103549.jpeg

So next we met my family. They had just bought their tickets for this day that morning, so in order to get them some fast passes set up, I needed to get all their stuff linked. So I gathered up their tickets and started assigning them in My Disney Experience. Somehow or another, I flubbed up and got my dad's ticket assigned to me, so I then had to go to Guest Services and get them to help me unlink it from me and get it on his profile. The cast member was super nice about it, and once we had all that done, I made their fast passes and then we took a few pictures.

MK_MSMKTHOU_20161205_7883196466.jpeg

My nephew looks super excited, doesn't he? Haha! So after we posed for pictures, we went our separate ways. Roomie and I were starving by this point, as it was after noon, and we'd been there half the day already, and the rest of the family was ready to hit the rides, so we decided to meet up later for the parade.

Roomie and I walked over to Casey's to get hot dogs. First time eating there, and while I thought the service was fast and the food was good, finding a table as a logistical nightmare! We gave up on the inside tables almost instantly, then the outside tables turned into a game of cat and mouse. I bet I spotted people getting up and leaving, made a mad dash for the table, and was beaten by another party about 5 times. I literally let out a massive sigh of frustration after about the 3rd time and people started to look at me funny. I tried to contain my disappointment after that, since I didn't want to be somebody's lunch entertainment. Finally, we landed a table and got to enjoy our food.

When we finished lunch, we headed to Tomorrowland, and went to the Laugh Floor. By this point, we had used all our morning pre-planned fast passes, and I was making additional ones on the fly, and this one was of them. Apparently nobody wastes a fast pass on this because we were literally the only ones escorted inside to the holding area. Roomie and I snapped a selfie which I later tweeted as "When you get that VIP Laugh Floor treatment!"

IMG_6426.JPG

After that, we hit Buzz Lightyear, where Roomie promptly kicked my patootie. You can tell by how concentrated she was! :rotfl:

MK_BUZZLIGHTYEARRIDE_20161205_7883252206.jpeg

Some time after this, we went to meet my family for Festival of Fantasy. We were not able to get my usual spot in front of the Christmas Shoppe. (Gosh, how many people gave my secret spot away???) But we did watch from the opposite side, even though it was very sunny over there! I just love that parade! We parted from the family again after that, and Roomie and I headed to the castle to watch the Royal Friendship Faire. I thought the new show was super cute, and I loved that they had Tiana, Naveen, Rapunzel, and Flynn in it. They do not get enough love, so I was super happy for them to get time over there. Also Tiana's costume is super fab! After the show, we hit another ride or two before it was almost time for our Cinderella's Table ADR.

And thus we come to literally the only bad cast member interaction that we had the ENTIRE trip. Our ADR was for 5:25pm. Naturally, after our OMG SO LATE dining experience the night before, I wanted to be as prompt as possible. At 5:15pm, I walk up to the host counter to check-in.

The CM asks, "How can I help you?"
I reply, "We have a 5:25 reservation for D-------"
He deadpans back to me, "Then I will check you in at 5:25." And then glares at me as if I dare to reproach him.

Ummm look here, bro. Just because you work at the castle restaurant does not make you the god of Disney dining. Which of course is not what I said because I used to work in food service and if nothing, I am UNFAILINGLY nice to hospitality workers. But I was super miffed. So we walk across the courtyard and take a seat on the side of a planter or something while I fume. To add fuel to my hatefire, we managed to sit on a Sorcerer's of the MK spot, and rather than nicely ask us to let them use it or even flail about to indicate we were in the way, a family from France GOT ALL UP IN MY BUBBLE to play their game. I mean like standing less than a foot from my face, and they were in a group that literally encircled and trapped us in our seated spot, so it wasn't like once I realized what was happening we could even move. I mean, really? I would have happily moved if they had given any indication we were in the way, but nope. Apparently it made more sense to huddle on top of us. :crowded:

Anyway, once it was EXACTLY 5:25pm, we went back to the host stand and checked in, luckily not with the same old fogey who smarted off to me. Once inside, we took our pictures with Cinderella.

MK_CRTLOBBYCHAR_20161205_7883604490.jpeg

The lobby was almost empty when we arrived, but by the time our party was called to head upstairs, it was downright packed, including a family who seemed to think it was okay to let their two sons literally MAD DASH between their bench downstairs and the dining room upstairs. I don't know how they didn't cause someone to fall down the stairs or trip, because they were literally sprinting. The dad could not have given any less craps, and I realized later that the mom was in the bathroom. She was not pleased when she got out. It escalated to the point one of the servers or hosts upstairs had to escort one of the boys back down to the lobby and kindly ask the father to stop letting him run amok in the dining room upstairs. Luckily, that seemed to end things.

When our party was finally called, we headed upstairs. The dining room was so much smaller than I expected, though it was beautiful. As was the case for a LOT of our ADRs, we were seated at a 4-top, which I thought was odd. I thought the reason parties of two had a harder time getting ADRs and waiting for tables was because there were so few, but even though there were empty 2-tops, we almost always were seated at 4-tops. (I hope that's not their way of calling me fat...!)

Our server was super nice, and he had a lot of jokes about not being dashing enough to be a prince himself, which I thought was pretty funny. As for the food, the Chef's Tasting Plate was pretty delicious. I enjoyed all the meats, and almost all the cheeses. I've never been a fan of bleu cheese, so that little pile was left untouched. After that, I had the Beef & Shrimp, and Roomie had the Pork Two Ways. My entree was pretty delicious, but not blow your mind amazing. It was pretty standard to be honest. Roomie's entree left a lot to be desired. First of all, it looked hella gross, but also I did not enjoy the flavors together at all. She made an honorable dent in it, but she did not even attempt to touch the pork belly. It looked super nasty.

For dessert, I had Bruno's Favorite Dessert and Roomie had The Clock Strikes Twelve. Roomie loved hers, though I didn't care for it. I'm not a big fan of dark chocolate, which was why I didn't get it myself. I loved Bruno's though, but I wish the cake was a little more moist.

I will say that for kids, this place is probably super magical. I loved the wishing star ceremony they did mid-dinner. There was a little girl a few tables over from us all dolled up in her princess dress and her cute little glasses, and she WISHED SO HARD ON HER STAR and then looked SO MESMERIZED when the lights started to twinkle. It was just precious!

Overall, I hate to say it, but Cinderella's Table is a bucket list item we can now check off, but I have no desire to do it again. I felt like the food was good but not anywhere near as good as other restaurants we had throughout the trip, and definitely not worth what you pay for it. Also, while the princesses are cool, as adults, I didn't feel like they interacted as much with us as I've interacted with some in the past at other Meet & Greets or even the one we met earlier this year at 1900 Park Fare. It was basically "Hello, would you like your portrait taken with me? Bye." Roomie didn't even care to take pictures with them, and none of mine are particularly earth shattering, so I'll spare you. For informational purposes, upstairs we met Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, and Aurora.

IMG_6443.JPG

After dinner, we met my family who were then looking for a place to eat supper. My favorite quick service is Columbia Harbor House, so I recommended that first, and everybody seemed amenable. Then all of the sudden (after a good 15 minutes in line looking at menus), here comes my family back out with no food. Apparently my sister has decided she now has a shellfish allergy and can't eat there. All you need to know about that is that it's probably a crock of bologna, but even so, if you're the only one of a party of 8 who doesn't want to eat there, and you're 35 years old and have a wallet, you should take yourself to another restaurant and let the 6 people who did want to eat there be. And that's my rant about that. :furious:

So I then escorted them over to Pinocchio Haus, where they actually ate. Roomie and I sat with them and visited for a little bit, letting our stomachs settle from our dinner. Then we went our separate ways once more, planning to meet back up for Wishes. After a few more rides, we did just that, and all watched Wishes from the Hub. It was magical as usual. Honestly, I can probably quote that show by now, but I love it just as much during the 10th time as I did the 1st. After fireworks, my family skedaddled, and Roomie and I headed over to see how stand by was for 7DMT, and it was down to 30 minutes, so we decided to head on in. We rode that and Space Mountain before heading home to the resort, opting to save the Once Upon a Time projection show for later in the trip.

MK_SPACEMOUNTAINB_20161205_7882971797.jpeg

It was a solid first day, and we were pretty worn out by the time we made it back to the resort, mentally almost more so than physically. My day was spent a lot on MDE making fast passes for us and my family. Basically as soon as my family would use one, I'd be on there making their next one and texting Dad to say where they could head next, while doing the same thing for us. Needless to say, as soon as my head hit the pillow that night after a quick shower, I was out like the dead.

Coming up on Day 3, Chef Mickey's, Afternoon Tea, and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party!

I feel the same way about CRT. We went once, but don't feel the need to go again because it wasn't mind blowing.
Also, I would have been a little miffed at having to be the virtual tour guide all day. I hope your family is grateful that you took care of the FP thing for them!

It was definitely exhausting! More so the next day than that day, if you can imagine! I love them, and they were super grateful (or at least 7 of the 8 seemed to be), but I was more than happy for all of them to head home on Wednesday so that I could just focus on our trip!

Day 3: ALL IN THE FAMILY... now kindly GTFO.

Tuesday, December 6th

We began today with plans for a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's with ALL TEN OF US. The horror... In truth, up until we were all standing in front of the restaurant, I had every inclination that my family would bail on this. Before the trip, I told my dad so. many. times. that if we weren't going to do it to please decide that the day before so I could cancel penalty-free. So imagine my surprise when we all showed up! Aren't we cute? (Except Uncle Mickey who is having NONE OF IT!)

WDWRESORTSANDMORE_CHEFMICKEY1_20161206_7884041900.jpeg

I will admit, I was going into Chef Mickey's with a level of curiosity. It really gets dragged a lot for the food being mediocre and the prices being ridiculous. Being as this was the one meal of the entire trip where I wasn't paying for myself, I wasn't too bothered about the price, but I did hope the food would be good, and my dad would feel like it was worth the very substantial check he was taking care of. And y'all, it was! I thought it was great! The food was all delicious, and there was a lot of variety, even more so than the online menu lets on! Also, the characters were wonderful! My stepmom said this was her favorite part of the trip, and she wished we had done more stuff like this and less hoofing it around the park. Here's some fun character interactions:

After breakfast, I gave unbelievably detailed instructions for my family on how to get to Disney Springs via Disney transportation and how to get back for the Christmas Party later. Roomie and I headed back to the resort to do a little laundry before we had a reservation for afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian.

Oh My Gosh. The Tea.

This might have been the greatest thing I've ever done at Disney. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but still, it was fabulous. We chose to do the Bedfordshire Tea, which was $35 per person, and it came with SO MUCH FOOD. I had the Enchanted Something Tea. I have no idea if it was Enchanted Tales, Enchanted Forest, Enchanted Meadow, but whatever it was was delicious. Roomie had the Nutty Chocolate Tea, which I had a cup of as well, and it was lovely. Your individual pot has PLENTY of tea. (I probably had 4 cups) We were downright miserably full by the time we left and headed to the Magic Kingdom for the Christmas party.

So now we come to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. I've dreamed of this day. I've planned for this day. I am READY for this day.

Except I am so not. Because I am there with 9 other people, 8 of whom do not bend to my will as Roomie does when I say, "Let's go here," or "We need to meet here at this time."

So at 3:50pm, Roomie and I have been through the turnstiles, and are nursing our afternoon tea food babies on a bench under the train station, waiting out a light rain, but also waiting on my family to arrive from Disney Springs. I text my dad to let him know where we are. My exact wording is, "We are literally under the train station." Our first round of fast passes expire at 4:30pm. (Technically, 4:15pm, but with the 15 minute grace window) At 4:10pm I get the "Almost there" text. At 4:30pm, no sign of them. Finally at 4:45pm or so, I look at my phone again and I have a missed call from my dad. I call back, no answer. He calls back. It goes like this:

D: Where are y'all?
Me: Under the train station.
D: We looked there.
Me: Well we're here. Where are y'all?
D: We're down the street on the corner by the Plaza Ice Cream. We've already gotten cookies and everything!

(Internally Me: &^#$&#%$*$ BAH ^%#$^$& HUMBUG &^#$%*@#%$*)

Me: (And I realize this was rude) What part of we are literally under the train station was unclear???? Do not move, we are coming.

So we walk to find my family, and I have just had it. Did I mention I'm carrying around s&%$-tons of red and green glow sticks for everybody as well? Poor sweet Roomie listens to me rant all the way down Main Street so that I don't lose it on my family. We all meet up, and I am so over it, that we head off to our second fast pass, and at no point does any of us realize that this entire exchange / miscommunication means that we do not have a single picture of all of us in our cute matching shirts in front of the castle.

The night does get better. Temporarily. We ride a few rides, the kids are pumped, and then all of the sudden, we have a family squabble involving one family member telling my niece to calm down and stop getting in Roomie's and my faces (which she totally wasn't) and the next thing I know, my niece is crying. Forever crying. Cried for like 2 hours. Glow sticks do not make the crying stop. Rides do not make the crying stop. Finally, she and I have a heart to heart on Peter Pan's flight, and she starts to perk back up. Meanwhile, my sister is making me mad because she's not riding ANYTHING, which makes other family members feel like they need to sit out as well, which I know they didn't want to, but the person who I felt like should be checking on her and/or sitting out was her husband, and he did not seem to care at all. He was almost first in line for every ride we headed to. At least I did get to get the kids on 7DMT before we took our first major snack break. We stopped in Fantasyland for snow cones and sugar cookies. They were okay.

We catch the Frozen Holiday Wish, which I thought was super cute. Then, we go off to try to find a parade spot for the first parade... literally 15 minutes before it starts because my father has just informed me that they are leaving after the parade since they have to get up early and go home the next day. This leaves me in shambles because my plan did not involve the first parade AT. ALL. so I have no idea where we can find a decent spot to watch with this little amount of time. We end up in Liberty Square by the Liberty Bell which is frankly crap viewing, but it was the only place I could find on such short notice that even gave a partial view. I find myself profusely apologizing to my dad because the view sucks, and he's telling me it's fine, and I'm just not enjoying anything about the parade. Because I couldn't really see it, the music got on my nerves, and the floats I could see seemed like recycled uses of the Boo To You Parade.

After the parade, my family left, and Roomie and I breathed a sigh of relief. I had just reached my limit. I was not meant for herding 10 people through Disney. I am used to it just being Roomie and me, and I have that pretty down pat. I'm even good when our local friend can join and there's three of us. Ten? Not. At. All.

The only character I cared anything about meeting was Sandy Claws, and his line was rough when we were in Liberty Square, so I passed. Roomie and I rode a couple more rides in Fantasyland before heading to the Hub for Holiday Wishes. If anything, this was the best part of the party for me. I took advice I'd read here on the DIS and we got spots to watch in the little gardens in the back of the Hub that are usually reserved viewing during non-party nights. Because it had rained so much earlier that day, NOBODY was sitting in the grassy areas, so Roomie and I pulled out our throwaway ponchos, and made ourselves at home. I've never gotten to watch Disney fireworks sitting down, so it was pretty relaxing and magical!

We tried to watch the castle show, but y'all, I could NOT with the texting Merry Christmas song. We made a beeline for Tomorrowland instead, and sat down with hot chocolate and peppermint cookies to watch the Tomorrowland stage show. This was a great idea in theory, but for some unknown reason, our performance was canceled for inclement weather right before the finale. It was super odd. Our night falling apart at the seams, we decided to take a final ride on Space Mountain before heading home.

Behold, slightly disinterested and 900% done.

Okay, yes that was on purpose. You got me. Still, I will say that having done both now, MNSSHP >>>> MVMCP. I thought I would love the Christmas Party, and I just didn't. I know a HUGE component of that was me being so frustrated with my family, but I honestly didn't love the snacks or the parade. Boo To you is so much better. But hey, you live and you learn.

(And you definitely don't go back to Disney with 10 people!)

Next up: EPCOT DAY! Also known as, the day Mallory cried her face off during the Candlelight Processional!

Following. I just did a family trip of 15. Thankfully, my parents told us before the trip they did not expect us all to do the same thing all the time. We planned a couple of family meals and we were content with that. However, trying to plan for them was a struggle when most wanted to go with the flow. And being use to going to Disney with DH and doing whatever and planning to get the most out of it, it was interesting to see how my sibling's children controlled their plans. I spent a couple days of my trip with my older sister and her family. It was great to be with them in Epcot, and mostly Animal Kingdom the next day. Magic Kingdom was on our last day, my niece was with the grandparents and cousins and older sister already had low expectations for MK. Luckily, we went our separate ways after and hour and I was able to relax more with just DH. I'll definitely stick to very small groups in the future!

It is definitely a whole other animal trying to plan for big groups like that! I had no idea just how mentally exhausting it would end up being. Plus, with us lodging in 3 separate locations (us onsite, sister and husband at close-ish offsite hotel, and everyone else at local uncle's apartment near Goldenrod), it made meeting at the beginning of the day just insane. Even my dad said at the end of it all that at the bare minimum, he wished we'd all been staying onsite if for nothing else than the convenience.

Day 4: My Face Will Not Stop Leaking!

Wednesday, December 7th

EPCOT Day!

I will not lie to you. We woke up this day exhausted, mentally, physically, all of it. Luckily, with my family now headed back home, we were down to just Roomie and myself, with occasional appearances by our local friend B, and he would be joining us later this day once his cast member roommate got off work and could get him in the park.

I had one last moment with my family during our bus ride to Epcot, but it was a good moment. I had texted my family to see what time they managed to get on the road, and after we discussed that, my stepmom texted, "Thank you for everything you did to make this trip special for us!" I almost cried on the bus, y'all. I know it was frustrating getting everybody together, but it just made me so happy and relieved that they didn't see the frustration as much and still managed to have a good trip.

We began our day with our Candlelight Dinner package. We had originally planned on a dinner at Via Napoli, but after some budget cuts (on our end), we downsized a bit to breakfast at Garden Grill instead. I'm sure Via Napoli would have been fabulous, but I had no regrets, because Garden Grill was WONDERFUL! I got my beloved POG juice, and the food was phenomenal. I got so distracted by all the deliciousness that I did not manage to get a picture of our skillet of food, but here's the fruit and sticky buns!

Chip, Dale, Mickey, and Pluto stopped by, and they were all so cute! There was a baby at the table next to us that was stinking precious with the characters. They would get real close to her, and she would grab their noses and just love on them! It was so sweet! Here's some pictures of us! :)

After breakfast, I had a SUPER DETAILED touring plan for us to hit in World Showcase so that we could fit in as many storytellers as possible. After a quick boat ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico (always a favorite), we hit our first storyteller. Here are my reviews of the ones we saw:

Norway - Sigrid & Julenissen - These folks were probably my favorite. This is a really cute story, and it's one of the most comical presentations. Also the location here is great. Lots of shade!

Japan - Daruma doll - This one was just kinda meh for me. I liked learning about the Japanese New Year customs, but it felt odd for her to randomly try to "sell" dolls during the presentation. Location was great, and we lucked up on getting to see some of the percussionists before this presentation.

France - Pere Noel - Also loved this one. Another cute story, and with a charming accent to boot. Hated the location though, it was like sitting under a spotlight.

UK - Father Christmas - This might have been the most disappointing to me only because I had made such an effort to fit it in our touring plan. The story was pretty run of the mill, but the location was great. It was nice to be sort of off the beaten path so that you didn't feel like you were in anybody's way waiting and then watching the story.

Italy - La Befana - So. Good. The lady who plays this role is phenomenal. I don't know if they have multiple La Befanas, but the one we had was so engaging. This is a really neat story, but I did hate the location. People were constantly moving and I probably had to reposition myself to see 4 or 5 times during the presentation.

Germany - Helga - I would have enjoyed this presentation so much more were there not a guest who was from Germany that felt the need to comment all the way through this presentation. I get it. I understand that you're proud of your heritage, but those of us that are not from there would like to hear the story, please and thank you. The Nutcracker shtick was cute, and the location here is great. It's a smaller little area off to the side of the pavilion, so it feels very intimate, which works well for storytelling.

America - Voices of Liberty - What can I say? They are spectacular! It's hard to believe that so few people make such a beautiful, rich sound. The acoustics in that building are also Grade A, so it's really a great experience.

America - Hanukkah - This was another disappointing one for me. I didn't feel like our storyteller was as engaged as I expected. Also, being the only sort of "modern" storyteller, it left something to be desired. I still learned some things I didn't know, and the location was great, but it wasn't my favorite by any stretch.

In the middle of all this storytelling, we got to ride Frozen Ever After for the first time. I was praying that the ride would not go down during our fast pass window since my touring plan was so strict, and we were planning to spend the evening in Future World. Luckily, all was well, and we rode with no issue. I did witness a standby guest get huffy with the cast member merging the fast pass and standby lines, and I wanted to shout to her, "The posted wait time was something like two hours, what did you expect?" It always grates my nerves when I see people get huffy at an employee who is simply doing their job, no matter whether it's at Disney or here at home, and since our local friend did his college program in attractions, I know that that poor girl had exact instructions of how many standby people get let in at a time, so there was nothing "personal" about her asking this lady to wait.

Anyway, enough about that. I loved Frozen Ever After. The animatronic figures are amazing! Also, I never got to ride Maelstrom, so I had no idea what to expect, thus our faces in the ride photo. (Also, how weird is it that we're basically mirroring one another with the hand on the rail and the hand on the purse??)

Once all our World Showcase storytelling was complete, we got in our line for the Candlelight Processional. I was a little concerned by how long the line was, but we had no problem getting a great seat as soon as they let us in.

I made friends with an older gentleman sitting beside me. He was from Michigan, but he and his wife had relocated to Florida after retirement. It was his birthday, and he loves the Candlelight Processional so much, that's what they did for his birthday. He told me about the times they had seen it before and which narrators he liked, and some things to watch out for, like if you see kids getting escorted out mid-show, it's probably because they got overheated. He just kept saying, "It's unlike anything else. I can't really describe it."

He was absolutely right.

Our narrator that evening was Anthony Mackie, aka Sam Wilson aka Falcon from The Avengers, and he was just lovely. He told the story with a lot of feeling, and shared some personal tidbits about what he loves about the holidays. I really loved him talking about how it's not the gifts you receive during Christmas that you remember as time goes by, it's the love and the family and the spirit of the holiday that stick with you. Needless to say, I was a BLUBBERING MESS by the time it was over. I had gotten pretty teary eyed a several points, but once the conductor invited the audience to join in singing "Silent Night", I was just done. I cried so hard I had to pull tissues out of my purse, and I could just see my new friend next to me smiling proudly when he saw how much it moved me. I mean geez, I'm getting misty eyed just typing it out now!

After the Candlelight Processional, we met up with our local friend B to check out some of the holiday food stands for supper before we headed to Future World to spend the remainder of the evening. Neither Roomie nor I care for Illuminations (sorry, but true).

I had the Holiday Sandwich from the Holiday Eats & Treats cart, and it was downright decadent. I followed it up with the Chocolate Pecan Tart from the Seasonal Southern Delights cart. It was lovely, and I found the strange whipped not-quite-ice-cream topping to be just perfect.

Once we were fed, we headed to Future World! We rode the new Soarin' Around the World, which I LOVED. The transitions are so much better than the old film!! We hit The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and a particularly hilarious Turtle Talk with Crush. Lastly, we boarded Spaceship Earth, and finished with Mission Space: Orange. It was just a great day overall. Before heading home, we got our picture made of course!

And that's all she wrote for Epcot! Next up, Animal Kingdom Day, but that probably won't be until after Christmas. Your girl is getting her wisdom teeth out tomorrow. Yay me!

So until next time, Merry Christmas, y'all!

My husband or I mentioned using our mini golf vouchers at least three times each and we never went. I can not imagine trying to make plans for that many people. Kudos you crazy girl!

We were at WDW the same days you were but so far none of our parks have overlapped. I keep hoping I will spot us in the background. :P

I got way, way behind and I don't know where to start with my comments, so just going to say a couple things!
1. I love your matching shirts with the Christmas lights
2. your sister and my sister sound like THEY should be sisters lol
3. Every time I read a review of the GF tea I so want to do it! Seriously may book it for DH and I for our May trip :scratchin Stupid sexist question but did you happen to notice if there were any men there? I know DH will basically do whatever I want down there lol, but he'll feel more comfortable if he's not the only guy in a room full of women and young girls having tea and small sandwiches!

I congratulate you planning for that many people, I feel it's often a challenge just planning for my family of 4! And I can't even always make all of them happy so you can't expect a larger group to all be happy at the same time, no matter what you do :sad2:
Very strange about the guy at CRT checking you in, and annoying. They generally suggest that at all TS places you check in early, and the only place I know of with any sort of policy is BOG dinner where they won't check you in until 15 minute before your ADR time. But not right AT your ADR time! I also agree with the food. We ate there for breakfast last Nov. I have boys and while we'd done Akershus a couple times I really wanted the castle experience. It was neat and I'm glad I did it but the food wasn't impressive. It's pretty up there too but yes, smaller than I thought it would be!
MNSSHP is my most favorite "extra" in Disney  We've done the Christmas party a couple times but really, I don't think it holds a candle to MNSSHP. We saw the Candlelight Processional with NPH narrating which was phenomenal! It's not something I think we'll do again but he certainly "made" it and also shared personal anecdotes. His family was in the audience which was cool, too!
