Marathon Weekend 2021

SAFD: Definitely my Monsters University hat! I've wanted one every trip we've taken and finally purchased it in January. And, with all this staying home and not washing my hair, it's become part of my daily uniform!

If we make it to our September trip, I'm buying all the other things I've eyeballed before. I will never take merchandise opportunities for granted again

SAFD: my Dumbo New Balances from the last Double Dare weekend. I have absolutely worn them out doing everything but running! I'm going to be sad when I eventually have to give them up...

As for registration, I find it odd yet comforting they are not delaying sign ups until later in the summer. It's nice to have something to look forward to. I'm signed up for W&D and have no issues signing up for my first Dopey.

SAFD: My favorite has no mention of Disney. I bought it in the German Pavilion at EPCOT years ago and roughly translated means "last lap" or "final round". During this years Marathon I stopped for a mug of beer in Germany to carry across the finish line. I wasn't wearing the t-shirt at the time, but I think of the Marathon now every time I wear it out for a run.

SAFD: I have many...take my money Disney ... please!

I have a favorite full-zip dark grey sweat shirt with hood. It is solid grey with white stitching on the seams and a white pull string. It has a logo on the left breast. It does not have anything on the back. I have two of them. One of them says 1955 and the other says 1971. Mickey is in between the first two numbers and the last two. Found it several years ago on main street next to Casey's Corner.

@MissLiss279 ... Sadly the zipper pull broke a while ago, and I haven't worn it in a bit.
I have a conspiracy theory that Disney makes the zippers fragile on purpose. That way they get you coming back to buy another one in about a year or two. The zipper pull-tab broke on both of my hoodies. I love them so much that I found a couple of key rings that matched the zipper color and threaded them through the hole. Works great!

I have the red and grey hat that has the worn-out look. It says Property of Walt Disney Word Est. 1971. It doesn't need the worn out look anymore, because I have had it since either 2008 or 2010. I wear it all the time. I see people with a new version of the hat and I think it looks too bright...it needs to be sun bleached and rubbed in the dirt!

As for the registering for Marathon Weekend:

I do not have a problem with registration opening in May. Whether you register or not is a personal choice. I understand all the reasons why someone would not want to register, but I also understand the importance of those that feel the need to register. I am in the camp of registering.

I need to have a goal, a light at the end of the tunnel, hope that I can return to the happiest place on earth and do the thing I love the most.

I have put together my training plan for Dopey 2021. It is not a normal training plan, as I am not an expert, and tweak things as the needs arise. It is a 43 week plan that I started back on March 16, 2020. It includes 203 runs, and a total of 1192.05 miles.

There may come a time in the future where Disney postpones the race or circumstances put additional stress on me for that race. When they do show up, I will deal with them in a responsible and mature way. I even have a backup plan to do the Dopey this year virtually...I only turn 50 once and I need to make sure I complete the promise I made to myself.

I empathize with those that are forced to not participate this year due to their own personal risks, challenges, and choices.

Stay safe and healthy everyone! Keep lacing up those runners and putting in the work. I love looking at everyone's training on Strava.

So did anyone see the article in MarketWatch that downgraded Disney stock and in the article speculated the parks may not be open until January 2021. Sure they are speculating but any thoughts on Marathon weekend pushing out if that happens?

Far too early to say anything for sure.

If that were to happen I don’t think there would be a Marathon Weekend next year. They will need some time with just the parks open to iron out new procedures and policies prior to running ancillary events.

SAFD: I'm not big on Disneyana in general, including apparel, and I refuse to spend what most Disney stuff costs. But I'll admit that I have mad love for my Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Opening Day T-shirt.

On registration... As a Floridian of 30+ years who works in a capacity that gives me some inside knowledge of how things run down here, I'll offer this: sometimes what's best for Disney also happens to be what's best for public safety... but not always.

I personally think rD tested their ability to handle mass refunds with the SW race weekend cancellation, saw it can be done pretty easily, and opted to forge ahead with more registrations, knowing it'll be easy to back out if necessary. I promise you: they have NO idea what January is going to be like at this point.

On March 17th, the Nevada governor shut down all casinos for 30 days (later extended). The next day many casino's websites were taking reservations for April 17th. It was simply a shot in the dark that they would reopen. Most knew better.
The idea was to be ready to resume business.
I believe that is what Disney is doing here. The difference is timing but the idea is the same.
I keep hearing "listen to the experts." Really? Sadly, I don't believe there are any true experts at this point.

SAFD: My favorite merchandise has ended up being the two jackets from this past marathon weekend and 2018 marathon weekend.

In terms of registration, I am planning on signing up. Like others have said, it’s something to look forward to and something to help keep me motivated. I would prefer they waited a little while longer just because both of my part time gigs are shut down for the moment. At this point, I'm not sure if I will register the day its open or hold off a little but the plan is still to sign up.

Hope everyone is staying safe!

I had been planning on Goofy for 2020, but since Rival Run was canceled, I’m now debating adding a few days and making it Dopey again. FOMO.

I know we don’t know if this weekend will really happen or not, but I will hold on to hope that things will be safe and we can come together for a fun weekend!

I share the same positive outlook that you do! It also keeps me disciplined in my training schedule!

I love my Minnie Mouse lounge pants. So cozy and they've held up well through many many washes. I pretty much love any Disney apparel I buy. I'm big on the socks too. I love funny socks.

Good morning, runDisney All-Stars!

Eating at the resorts is one of my favorite ways to explore parts of WDW I wouldn’t normally visit and many of those restaurants feel like hidden gems. For this week’s Sundays are for Disney, what are your favorite WDW resort restaurants?

My top two are definitely Boma and Ohana. The food is great, there is variety, I love the atmosphere and they are family-friendly. Both have been go-to destinations for post-marathon celebrating and dining.

Have a great week and stay safe, everyone!
