Marathon Weekend 2024

So in the category of making plans in the (hopefully unlikely) event that the half is cancelled and they give us the option of running the full, does anyone know if Disney offers late check out (even at a cost)? I'm not trained for a marathon so if I were to do it, I'd have to do it very slowly.
The DVC resorts do not, and I'm pretty sure the others don't either, but you can always ask. This would play into my decision as well, since DH leaves Sunday morning and I move from Bay Lake to Kidani. I suppose I could have DH take my bags to bell services as he leaves.

club RD bib pickup question
bib line has formed waiting for open
usually platinum gets special pickup in arena and gold is as usual
some staff is saying good gets special pickup too but I don’t want to get out of line to have to get back in a longer line
any gold members happen to pickup already at arena?
At previous race weekends, pickup was in the platinum-only area.

anyone got advice for plantar fasciatis? i have heel pain in my right foot and I've not been running 2 weeks to let it calm down, and ive also forgotten what to do since ive not had this in the last 5 years. i remember using inserts before that helped so gonna try this at least and some advil. i doubt i can do anything at this point, so i guess im glad i wasn't gonna go fast at all this year due to poor training, or over training.

I have a little insight on heal pain from two different marathon cycles. The first thing I suggest it going to a specialist that works with runners or athletes to find out for sure what you have is PF. I was convinced by Dr. Google that was my problem but I went to a Dr. of PT near me that works exclusively with athletes and he told me he didn't think it was PF, it was some heal inflammation.

I had been running in SuperFeet at that time and the first think he had me do was get rid of them and change to a more minimalist shoe with less drop. I went from about a 15mm drop shoe to a 4mm drop (Saucony Kinvara). He said I was not letting my foot do it's job and while in the short term it might feel worse I'd be working on my foot muscles and letting them do their job. He also recommended I walk around barefoot as often as possible.

The second thing he had me do was get a scrape tool which I already had from some previous PT and use it where that disk of fat under the heal meets the fascia. It felt weird at first and I could hear crunching but it started to feel good after a while.

The second cycle I had this happen during was the 2022 MW cycle and it ended with a BQ and no pain. I stuck with the scraping routine through that cycle and then in the month or so I took off after everything healed and I haven't had to touch my foot since.

They do… but:
1. It’s not very late - 12pm in my experience. I may have gotten a 1pm once, but I could be mixing that up with an offsite hotel.
2. They have VERY limited availability for late checkouts. I tried to get one around 6pm the night of W&D Half for the next day and they’d already hit the limit at ASMu: no more late checkouts available.
3. You can’t request one until the day before, and I feel like they told me after 4pm. I’d try earlier than that in case that's wrong or has changed.
Thanks - I'll bring it up when I check in tomorrow just to get the latest info. Given the difference in airfares between Sunday and Monday flights I'm hoping there's a lot of people leaving Sunday :)

FYI for anyone being told different
it is as usual
platinum is arena
gold is regular pickup
some cast members are misinformed

I have gotten a late checkout at a DVC while staying on points, but was told they have even more limited availability than non-DVC. Definitely worth asking!

I’ll chime in because I sometimes have something similar happen, too. My heel pain is in one very specific spot when it flares and every time it does flare, it stems from being in shoes with too much arch support. I don’t need that support and it aggravates a tendon insertion point terribly. I hadn’t had it happen for many years until recently: all of a sudden, it seems like the gigantic stack heights, regardless of heel-toe drop, are coming with a side of Super Arch and I’ve had a terrible time finding shoes that don’t aggravate it! I’ve seen a big uptick in runners complaining of PF who’ve never had it before lately and I’m starting to wonder if it’s the Super Shoe and Semi-Super Shoe effect…

I'm still flummoxed why they went with the half marathon design in which they made Daisy look like such a great athlete and made Donald look like he hit the wall hard. I know that it's just a silly design for cartoon characters, but why denigrate Donald to lift up Daisy? It doesn't make any sense to me. Just my two cents...that won't be used to purchase that shirt.

I went to get a couple new pairs in 2022 and the store associate had me try on Saucony's more affordable super shoe and my feet immediately said no. My running coach at the time too would advocate against super shoes. My biomechanics are super picky so I'm not changing what works for me.

Do you think the marathon pins will last until tomorrow? I get in tomorrow morning and I'm nervous; I missed out on the 19.3 pins at Wine and Dine.

Right? I just want my shoes to get out of the way and let my biomechanics do their thing! I had to abandon my beloved Altra Torins because the 6 and now the 7 models have too much under the rear arch. I tried the NB 1080s and the pain flared within minutes of just walking around! Every Topo I’ve tried is the same. The Saucony Ride 15s aren’t my favorite shoe ever, but they mostly get out of the way, so that’s what I’m rolling with for now. I’m glad to be reducing my mileage a lot going forward, because maybe I can ride out this new super era with what I’ve got until the next new thing comes along to replace it!

I was boarding group 1 and within the first 50 in! They started scanning us in around 9:30 and were held in room until 9:45. There were maybe a dozen medium dopey jackets left and I got one. Now I think there’s just XL or XXL and larger. People are hovering. No restocks I’ve seen but regular jackets like marathon were being restocked. The fit is excellent, unisex TTS.

A decent amount of medal pins left still at 10:30, wouldn’t be surprised if they run out but at least no immediate sellout like I heard about Figment pins.

Coast to coast shirts are pretty limited but weren’t going fast. The women’s cut is pretty nice and runs close to unisex. I usually wear a unisex S-M and women’s M was plenty big. Men’s coast to coast was enormous. S fit more like an XL and when I put mine back another woman was happy to scoop it up.

Weekend Nike hats mostly gone I think too, I think they had two sizes as I have a M/L.
