Matt's Fall 2015 nine-day adventure at the DLR.

Next up is Minnie's House! It reminds me so much of my period revival homes. LOVE it. The details are again OFF THE CHARTS awesome.

DSC_6775%20(Large).jpg

Little Char completely disappears between giant K! Vic was on Cloud 9 as she was OBSESSED with Minnie.

DSC_6779%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6783%20(Large).jpg

A cell from Fantasia from the Centaurs receiving grapes from Cupid.... it's actually a racy scene especially for the time. Minnie may have been a bit of a tart in her early years..

DSC_6787%20(Large).jpg

Minnie's Kitchen is always fun because of all the interactive elements and fun little details and nods to pop culture.

DSC_6790%20(Large).jpg

Cheesemore instead of Kenmore refrigerator

DSC_6793%20(Large).jpg

Always primp your ears!! Love the forced perspective/distortion and Amy's freakish proportions here...

DSC_6800%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6805%20(Large).jpg

Tea time!!

DSC_6819%20(Large).jpg

Of course Mickey's House has to be next!!

Mickey seems to have the same problem as us all, too much stuff, not enough storage space!

DSC_6822%20(Large).jpg

Couch is the perfect size for three!

DSC_6824%20(Large).jpg

Love the Steamboat Willie ship in a bottle.

DSC_6825%20(Large).jpg

K obviously caught my attention to detail..

DSC_6826%20(Large).jpg

Char as usual is resting her feet.

DSC_6828%20(Large).jpg

And here we have this beautiful Morrell's Walt Disney Calendar represented. This is the true vintage calendar reproduced for this prop. Issued by John Morrell & Co (now owned by Smithfield), these calendars were given out by grocers and butchers around the holidays to advertise the brand.

DSC_6844%20(Large).jpg

The calendar is perfectly accurate for February 1942.

2/2/1942 - Groundhog Day - On this day in 1942, Punxsutawney Phil claimed to only see a partial shadow, adding that, “War clouds have blacked out parts of the shadow.” as the country was in the grips of WWII
2/11/1942 - Thomas Edison's Birthday, February 11, 1847
2/12/1942 - Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, February 12, 1809
2/14/1942 - St. Valentine's Day (Wonder if Minnie got anything from Mickey)
2/18/1942 - Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent that year
2/22/1942 - George Washington's Birthday. Technically, he was born on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar which moved Washington's Birthday a year and 11 days to February 22, 1732.
2/27/1942 - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Birthday, February 27, 1807

Also of note are the days marked with a Fish. These denote the fasting days (every Friday for Catholics of the time). We also have the traditional fast on the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday represented as well, what you don't see any more that I've ever heard of (I haven't attended Catholic School since 3rd grade though) is the Ember days also represented. The Spring Ember week occurs between the first and second Sundays of Lent and the traditional dates for the Ember days are the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. This is amazing attention to detail on a prop nobody is probably ever going to look at and representing ember days on it is also telling of its anachronistic place in time of 1942 which is lost on modern society. BRAVO to the imagineer who did their homework on this piece and had it represented thoughtfully in Mickey's kitchen.

DSC_6846%20(Large).jpg

Love the Maxwell Mouse Coffee. It's good to the last toon. Not sure if they still advertise Maxwell House, good to the last drop anymore, but it was certainly a jingle of my youth.

DSC_6847%20(Large).jpg

Here's where the continuity errors start jumping out...

The Mouse N Glo floor wax. It even mirrors the Mop & Glo floor wax containers. That being said, Mop & Glo came onto the scene in 1970...hmm.

While we never see Mickey's commode, I'm glad to see he's using Toon-D-Bol in Lemon Freshened scent. A play on Ty-D-bol, but continuity is also odd here as it was introduced in 1957.

And lastly, Formula 408-1/2 cleaner. Formula 409 must just not be available in Toon-Town. It could also be a not to this being set prior to Formula 409's creation in 1957. Hmm.... Head Scratcher on that continuity error..

DSC_6848%20(Large).jpg

A note foreshadowing what we are about to find out in the barn. Hmmm...

DSC_6850%20(Large).jpg

Love that Mickey has a planting room and the Mouse Kosh Overalls are a great play on OshKosh.

DSC_6852%20(Large).jpg

Pluto's dog run. Where did the garden go that used to be here?

DSC_6854%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6855%20(Large).jpg

In Mickey's Barn, there is surprisingly much to do and take in visually. I'm sad if this is going the way of the Dodo when it reopens, but I'm somewhat excited for the train attraction.

DSC_6871%20(Large).jpg

Here we have those brooms which were foreshadowed by the note on Mickey's fridge. I love a good story wiht appropriate set-up.

DSC_6879%20(Large).jpg

Of particular note, notice the horseshoe is set the correct way, to collect the luck. Most times I see it upside down...

DSC_6880%20(Large).jpg

The rubber-band powered plane kills me every time. It is an ode to Plane Crazy, the first Mickey Mouse short ever made which premiered with sound at the Mark Strand Theater in New York City on March 17, 1929. I may be a Disney geek, but I sure know my vintage Disney!!!

pla945654LARGE.jpg

DSC_6881%20(Large).jpg

There is just SOOO much to see in the movie barn. The balloons with bricks tied on string, props from nearly every vintage Disney short, it is just soo amazing for anybody who appreciates Disney History.

DSC_6883%20(Large).jpg

The paint can towers here... SOO fun.

DSC_6886%20(Large).jpg

Mickey's Matinee Music Machine crushes it all.

DSC_6890%20(Large).jpg

And lastly, time for some pics with the big guy himself.

DSC_6897%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6905%20(Large).jpg

Onward to the rest of Toon Town. Chip and Dale's Treehouse is next a few minutes before 1PM.

DSC_6910%20(Large).jpg

I seriously lament how little attention this gets. The Ball pit crawl with the Acorn shaped balls, shut down well before my first visit and long after my last visit before it existed. Honestly, I'd prefer they created a scaled treehouse and put it behind the Gadget's Go Coaster and turned this into Scrooge's Money Bin, but I'm not in charge... for now..

DSC_6922%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6923%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6925%20(Large).jpg

I always find the wait for Gadget's to be long and HOT. That being said, after I have contorted myself into the ride vehicle, it's always fun and provides GREAT vistas.

DSC_6934%20(Large).jpg

WOW, just WOW!! Remember when Galaxy's Edge wasn't polluting the skyline?

DSC_6937%20(Large).jpg

Look at TDA. Very masterfully hidden except at the highest vantage point. My office should be that upper Right corner... just saying.

DSC_6941%20(Large).jpg

Donald's Ship is amazingly well done. I guess he hasn't had a chance to move it to Scrooge's pool yet.

DSC_6947%20(Large).jpg

K being K... letting it all hang out...

DSC_6953%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6958%20(Large).jpg

DSC_6966%20(Large).jpg

Man, what a few trees couldn't do for this AMAZINGLY detailed land...

DSC_6969%20(Large).jpg

ToonTown is such a cute place, we just never spent much time there even when we were younger in age.

Your photo of Donald's boat reminded me of the similar boat that used to exist in California Adventure! I had completely forgotten about it, but remember taking my probably 2-year old brother up to the top where you could squirt water...the S.S. Rustworthy. Close to BurgerInvasion aka McDonald's inside the park. Ah, memories.

Next stop, Goofy's House. Clearly, we should NEVER let Char drive... and I MEAN NEVER!!!

DSC_6974%20(Large).jpg

Aww.. it's almost like they like each other.

DSC_6997%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7000%20(Large).jpg

We actually have pics of K on this jack-o-lantern a few years apart. She grows so quick!

DSC_7006%20(Large).jpg

Absolutely ADORE that they have actual veggies growing in Goofy's Garden.

DSC_7015%20(Large).jpg

OK, not only is this Goofy Scarecrow adorable, the Popcorn seeds planting popped corn is so fun!

DSC_7017%20(Large).jpg

1:26PM and we snagged the train! Charlotte's face basically exemplifies her state of lack of stamina at all times.

DSC_7021%20(Large).jpg

We got off at Tomorrowland Station and made our way back towards the hub via Fantasyland. Who did we discover, but Captain Hook!

DSC_7033%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7039%20(Large).jpg

A quick stop off for a late lunch at Plaza. The Fried Chicken Platter is hands DOWN the BEST value you'll find in the park.

DSC_7047%20(Large).jpg

After lunch, we made our way up past the ropes at Main Street Station at 2:30 for our reserved viewing bench for the 3PM parade.

Ah... the Lilly Belle. We haven't ridden it at this point in a while, but we still remember it strongly. So much, we named our latest kitten Lilly Belle. She almost didn't make it at 6 months after swallowing a hair tie and having it wrap all around her intestines. $5500 later, she's a spry young kitten, however she may never grow full size missing so much of her digestive tract... Every time I call her name, I think of the Lilly Belle car though...

DSC_7049%20(Large).jpg

There is so much to see and take in. I'm sure it is lost on the younger kids though unless they are indoctrinated like mine are. It is just FILLED with so many amazing details.

When was this? I only saw DCA on its 9th birthday, so it may have been removed long before I ever had a chance.

After a LOOOONG call with my HR department over some people getting angry at each other, I finally hung up and started to watch show.. I always appreciate the parades when I get to see them. Paint the Night is my all-time favorite, but this one was pretty great.

We start out with the Marching band..

DSC_7061%20(Large).jpg

I do love how they decorate the light poles every season.

DSC_7074%20(Large).jpg

The growth over the Emporium is pretty impressive. I can almost imagine I'm viewing a far off Jungle just looking at it.

DSC_7075%20(Large).jpg

A quick look up and I'm reminded I live in the freest country ever.

DSC_7077%20(Large).jpg

Minnie was putting it all out for us.

DSC_7103%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7105%20(Large).jpg

Mickey was giving her the beats to dance to.

DSC_7109%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7126%20(Large).jpg

Pluto was bringing up the rear.

DSC_7132%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7137%20(Large).jpg

Goofy and Chip and Dale weren't far behind.

DSC_7145%20(Large).jpg

Next up, we are off to the sands of Agrabah.. These dancers were particularly great.

DSC_7149%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7152%20(Large).jpg

The lamp Costume was amazing!

DSC_7156%20(Large).jpg

Every time I see the look on Genie's face, I have to chuckle... this pic says it all... PG13..

DSC_7158%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7159%20(Large).jpg

Aladdin was REALLY putting on a show for the spectators..

DSC_7168%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7171%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7178%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7194%20(Large).jpg

Abu was bringing up the rear in no uncertain prominence.

DSC_7191%20(Large).jpg

We swiftly departed the desert and headed under the sea!

DSC_7199%20(Large).jpg

At first I thought she was doing the Can Can

DSC_7210%20(Large).jpg

Yep! Definitely the Can Can

DSC_7217%20(Large).jpg

Ariel shared my observation... she would definitely be talking after the show.

DSC_7221%20(Large).jpg

She warmed up pretty quickly in the sun.

DSC_7230%20(Large).jpg

And then she got EXCITED!

DSC_7235%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7244%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7249%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7252%20(Large).jpg

One of her Hermit crabs cleaning up the trail of allure and dinglehopper laden destruction she left in her wake.

DSC_7258%20(Large).jpg

A coy look as if to say "Did I do that?"

DSC_7271%20(Large).jpg

This was probably back in 2004-ish. I googled to see and it looks like it was completely demolished in September of 2010 (https://www.yesterland.com/rustworthy.html). It's funny because I had completely forgot about it but saw the boat in your photo and thought wait a sec... Funny how the parks have changed over time.

Man, we just missed it as our first trip as a family was in October 2010. Doh!!

Next up, Mexico!

DSC_7278%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7287%20(Large).jpg

And DONALD!

DSC_7293%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7304%20(Large).jpg

On to the princesses..

DSC_7308%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7308_crop%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7315%20(Large).jpg

My gosh... such framing on these next two. Heavenly.

DSC_7335%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7371%20(Large).jpg

And the full tower..

DSC_7338%20(Large).jpg

Over to Snow White..

DSC_7348%20(Large).jpg

And Rapunzel.

DSC_7356%20(Large).jpg

Up next Belle.

DSC_7308%20(Large).jpg

And Cinderella..

DSC_7383%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7388%20(Large).jpg

Next up we head to the jungle...

King Louie representing!

DSC_7389%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7400%20(Large).jpg

And Terk from Tarzan! Weird mash-up, but I suppose as Willie Scott says... Anything Goes.

DSC_7409%20(Large).jpg

Next up was Simba... All grown up!

DSC_7413%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7414%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7417%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7423%20(Large).jpg

Zazu is out front...and in need of a little attention.

DSC_7430%20(Large).jpg

The character dancers are amazingly dressed.

DSC_7434%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7444%20(Large).jpg

Now we transition to New Orleans.... My ABSOLUTE favorite part of the parade. My favorite part of the park and the music I listen to.

First the dancers...

DSC_7457%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7464%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7466%20(Large).jpg

Those WINGS!!!!

DSC_7467%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7476%20(Large).jpg

SHE is having the time of her life.

DSC_7482%20(Large).jpg

That FLOAT!!!

DSC_7487%20(Large).jpg

Tianna is CRUSHING it!

DSC_7490%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7491%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7497%20(Large).jpg

Louis warms my heart every time.

DSC_7509%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7515%20(Large).jpg

Hey there!!

DSC_7521%20(Large).jpg

On to one of the most animated of the stories, Peter Pan. I am always happy to see Peter roll around as he REALLY gets into character and interacts with the crowds in a way most others don't.

The charge is led with Smee and some of what appears to be Neverland Pirates.

DSC_7527%20(Large).jpg

Peter flies down from on high and starts to engage them!

DSC_7529%20(Large).jpg

Captain Hook sneaks up behind him and starts to cause trouble.

DSC_7533%20(Large).jpg

Peter decides to mock him just out of reach of his hook.

DSC_7534%20(Large).jpg

He's unfazed by Hook and demonstrates his prowess with his dagger.

DSC_7541%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7542%20(Large).jpg

Reinforcements on the way! He's on a mission.

DSC_7549%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7552%20(Large).jpg

Peter takes flight again and quickly intercepts the pirate.

DSC_7556%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7557%20(Large).jpg

In keeping with Neverland, here come the fairies.

DSC_7559%20(Large).jpg

Tinkerbelle is so engaging and clever with how she handles the crowd. AMAZING performance.

DSC_7566%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7571%20(Large).jpg

She can be a bit sassy too.

DSC_7581%20(Large).jpg

The magic binoculars are always good for a laugh.

DSC_7589%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7591%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7605%20(Large).jpg

Up next, Mary Poppins!

The chimney sweepers are absolutely superb.

DSC_7614%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7620%20(Large).jpg

And here comes Mary on her steed.

DSC_7631%20(Large).jpg

Bert is looking a bit young.

DSC_7640%20(Large).jpg

George Banks clearly has yet to hear let's go fly a kite.

DSC_7645%20(Large).jpg

Love the sweeping the moon motif.

DSC_7656%20(Large).jpg

Next up, we decided since we were already up on the platform to take a trip around the world...I must say, I REALLY miss the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Guardians just RUINS the entire vista from anywhere you can see it.

DSC_7679%20(Large).jpg

We were to board the Ernest S. Marsh. This engine, added on July 25, 1959, was named for Ernest S. Marsh – who was the current president of Santa Fe Railroad at the time. It was built in 1925 by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

DSC_7682%20(Large).jpg

The transition theme from the jungle to where you enter New Orleans Square has always been one of my favorite places on the entire railroad. It takes backstage to on-stage.

DSC_7695%20(Large).jpg

The trestle over Critter Country is always an amazing vista. Be curious to see how they manage this with the upcoming re-theme.

DSC_7731%20(Large).jpg

As mentioned before I ALWAYS love the backstage/onstage transition points. They put just as much detail into these as they do the onstage-proper show.

DSC_7769%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7772%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7775%20(Large).jpg

Nice vista looking into Fantasyland while we wait for the switch up of passengers.

DSC_7785%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7786%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7794%20(Large).jpg

Always love the take on American Gothic by Grant Wood as you transition into Tomorrowland.

DSC_7801%20(Large).jpg

I've got so many pics of the Primeval world, this is the only one I bothered to take this time around.

DSC_7870%20(Large).jpg

And... back to Main Street Station.

DSC_7881%20(Large).jpg

Back Down Main Street before we leave for the day...Who doesn't love the non-offensive clock?

DSC_7884%20(Large).jpg

And this non-offensive hitching post?

DSC_7889%20(Large).jpg

Where did we end up for the last attraction of the day, Autopia... (my least favorite attraction of them
all...)

DSC_7908%20(Large).jpg

DSC_7912%20(Large).jpg

The Greenery!!!

DSC_7926%20(Large).jpg

Bob Gurr is seriously present.

DSC_7934%20(Large).jpg

OOooops!

DSC_7938%20(Large).jpg

That Popcorn cart... SOOOO good.

DSC_7946%20(Large).jpg

The Vista to tomorrow!!!
