Memorable People. Do they remember us?

As I was laying in bed trying to sleep, I started thinking about Disney memories. It is usually a person that makes the memory so special.

Like David, the young CM who was cleaning tables in AK, sweeping up, and had great interaction, even though he never said a word. (He was deaf.) When DD needed a straw, since AK doesn't allow plastic straws, he gave her a reusable plastic cup with straw attatched. I think of him whenever she uses the cup.

Or Arsinio, from Puerto Rico, a gentleman who scrubbed the deck around the pool every morning at our resort, making sure the chairs and tables were clean for the day. Every morning as we left our room, he would call out "good morning , Princess" to my daughter. I gotta say, it just made my day.

Or Deanna, a manager at the resort we were staying at, who helped us out at a very difficult time, turning a tragedy into a special memory.

Or the CM who gave DD a balloon, as we were waiting for the parade. The interaction was so brief and quick I didn't get her name. Sorry. In turn, when DD was finished with the balloon, she passed it on to another child. The mother was very thrilled, and the child was happy too. As I was thinking about these memories, I was wondering if these people remembered them or us too.

In November, outside of the animation class in DHS, there was a CM babbling about "revenge of the squirrel" which was apparently a new Star-Wars type ride. After being there for 5 minutes I caught onto his joke, and played along when people were confused. I never got his name. When we returned in February, a CM at the same place had told us that the class was full. My family started walking away, but I stayed. I walked up to him and asked if in November, he was talking about a ride called Revenge of the Squirrel. His face absolutely lit up, and began to say the same things he did the first time in November, asking me if the ride had changed my life. It was truly a special moment on both ends. Still never got his name, but I would know him if I saw him again.

awesome.

One trip, I had a good time interacting with Bucky and the other guy at DHS. We saw him on a different day, I want to say at the..... move it, shake it, parade. I yelled his name and he lit up and told the person next to him "Oh, there's Pam, she wants me". My DH rolled with laughter.

Same trip, My dd4 then, asked me if I thought Snow would remember her. What are the chances we would get the same Snow, and that Snow would remember?.... So, I improvised. I said to Snow, "Snow, Autumn here was worried that you would not remember her from last summer's trip". Snow then replied "Oh, Autumn (hugs her) Of course I do. But, I must say you are a tad taller". Made my daughters day!:wizard::love:

Now she is 8 and still talks bout it

Cutest story ever and quick thinking on your part Mom!

All our character interactions were great but we were meeting Mickey and Minnie At Ak and Mickey was doing all kinds of gestures and really cute things with my son. We couldn't figure it out. Finally his handler (who obviously speaks mouse) told us Mickey was trying to say he remembered him from breakfast that morning. I mean I think my kid is memorable (lol) but for the big Cheese himself to remember him, that just made our day!

We went to dlr a few years in a row when we lived out west. We always made sure to do a lot of photopass photos and get the cd, and each year we usually ran into the same photographer at the partners statue. He remembered us each time! And he initiated the conversations indicating he remembered us...it always surprised us! Our trips were a year apart, and they must photograph thousands of people in that time. It definitely added magic :)

I think they do.

A few years ago there was a character called Greta Garbage at the Hollywood Studios. She made a real fuss of one of our party one time when we were there and it really made his day. She posed for photos with him etc and he had one of them printed on a t-shirt.

The next time we went, all he could talk about was "I wonder if Greta will be there?" and he was wearing the t-shirt.

When we arrived at the studios, we couldn't see her so we asked the other characters (who also remembered us) if she was going to come out to play and they said she'd hurt her foot. When they saw how disappointed our friend was, they said they would tell her and see what they could do. Lo and behold, the very next time the characters came out, she was there and made the biggest fuss of our friend - he still talks about it now!!!!

I think both of them got so much out of that interaction - she was thrilled that he was so excited to see her and he was completely over the moon that she made such an effort to come and say hello even when she was injured.

She was fan-tas-tic!!!!!

We had a similar story with a princess. My daughter had a princess party for her 5th birthday, here in the UK, so we hired Aurora to come. A few weeks later we went to WDW and saw Aurora. I said something to my daughter, a bit loudly, about how she saw Aurora so recently at her birthday party and Aurora went with it. It made my daughter's day.

Then, even better, we saw the same one later in the week and she completely remembered my daughter and mentioned the birthday party again! I wouldn't count on her remembering her now, over a year later, but even just a few days was fantastic.

Great stories!:)

Another way to have them remember you is to be horrible!

Not encouraging anyone, but instances of people being real jerks get remembered also. I have a friend who still remembers the man pitching a fit over bacon! And it has been many years since he was in the college program.

A couple of years ago we were at WDW for our August vacation and had a very nice time with the "Councilman" on Main Street. We were there with our son and were talking about various things like our upcoming dinner at V&A, etc. It was fun.

We went back in October for MNSSHP. We went to Jack Sparrow show in MK and DS was sitting in audience and low and behold the councilman's twin brother (wink, wink) was Jack Sparrow's first mate in the show.

They were choosing the kids to go up and interact with the show and the first mate called on my son very last and to make it even better my son was the one kid who got to sword fight with Jack Sparrow himself.

The next day we ran into his twin the councilman and he chose my son because he remembered him from our previous trip. It was really special and helped make a magical moment for our son. So we always keep our eye out when strolling down Main St. for our favorite councilman.

I definitely think they remember the guests, especially if you make a good impression on them :goodvibes. We go to California Grill every trip and the manager and a couple of the waiters remembers us every time we walk in. The first time we got wind of this was back in 2011 when our favorite waiter (Walter) happened to be serving us that night. He came up to us with a huge smile and asked us how Chicago was that time of year (we were there in January) and if I would like a glass of my favorite wine. He also remembered each of our entrees that we liked to order and remembered mine and DH's name. Then the manager came around like they always do to see how everything was and he too remembered us from previous visits, he was at our table for a while just talking about everything....they both were the ones that first told us about the renovation that CG was going to have the next year. Walter then gave us his business card and told us to email him whenever we are in WDW and if he is working on one of the nights we return to CG, he will make sure we are placed in his section. My in-laws happened to be vacationing with us and this was the first time that they dined at CG...let me just say that they were shocked that we actually knew CMs and that they remembered us too :goodvibes. It was awesome.

DCL - Went on a family cruise one year with DD, DSiL, DGS (Teen), DW and me had Typhoon from Turkey as our server. 16 months later DW and I made a last minute reservation, went to PC for embarkation lunch, Typhoon saw us walking up to PC, and he came out of line from where the servers were escorting the cruisers to their tables. He served us lunch. We went to the table assignment change meeting, requested Typhoon as our server and it was granted. Typhoon had gone home twice and gotten married during those 16 months, yet he still recognized us.

I didn't email disney, or write a letter, but I made sure to go to guest services, and write out a complementary note for each encounter, to be put in their file. I also phoned with the same story for each person, just in case the note was misfiled or the CM wasn't given credit for exceptional service. It would be a shame for great seervice to go unrecognized.

Several years ago we took my niece (6) and nephew (8) to Disney World. One of the things that we had decided to do was breakfast at the castle with the princesses. My nephew was not thrilled and is relatively shy. He didn't look excited about responding to any of the princess interaction and only quietly answered questions when asked. Mary Poppins became concerned and asked him what was wrong. He told her he really didn't care for princesses. She gave him a big hug, teased him until she got a smile out of him and then moved along. We ended up going to the MSEP the next evening and down the street comes Mary Poppins. None of us even gave it a second thought as it was dark and the characters interact with so many people on any given day. As she got closer, she spotted my nephew and stooped down beside him. She leaned in and quietly said "So.....do you like the princesses yet?", and then got up and continued down the parade route. He sat with a big grin the rest of the evening. He talked about Mary Poppins remembering him, more than any ride or show he saw. That is Disney magic at it's finest. :thumbsup2

Last summer, we met a terrific Gaston, and then went into the tavern to get a snack. While we were sitting there, Gaston came in and sat in his chair, interacting with the guests. There was a baby - maybe 9 months old - in a stroller next to us, and he spent a long time interacting with her because she was fascinated by him. After he left, he sent his handler back in, and we heard her telling the family that he would like them to send him a copy of the picture they took of him and the baby, and she gave them the address to send it to at WDW. It was so sweet!

Memorable People. Do they remember us?

1) Not to burst bubble,s but we rarely remember individuals or families.
2) We see far too many people.
3) Daily.
4) And, we do a lot for many, including Pixie Dust.
5) UNLESS, there is something that really stands out.
6) I can remember only a handful of folks - and some by name.
. . . the H***** family who are retired peanut farmers from Georgia, who greet us by name at OKW each year
. . . Betty and Anne C******* from Illinois, who are two nice old sisters that I joke with (insider jokes)
. . . the S*********** family whose kids come up and hug us every visit from when I helped calm one of them YEARS ago

Sure they remember!

Since DD was 2 (now 11) we have been regular guests at ASMu. She became "BFFs" with several of the girls that work the poolside activities over the years. The one that most surprised me was one that left that job and went to work as a lifeguard at one of the water parks. We ended up at that park a couple of years later and she called out to DD by name while she was floating in the lazy river.

Same with the really nice lady from Puerto Rico that works in the gameroom. DD goes by there as soon as we check in to see if she is working...they are on a first name basis.

I used to work in touristy area (not Disney) myself and I certainly remembered the more memorable repeat guests I dealt with.

Of course we remember :) My CP was well over a year ago, but I still remember the special moments that I had with guests!

I remember the little girl who dressed as Ariel, and my fellow cast member and I made a big deal about how she was out of water! The next day she came dressed as Tinkerbell, and asked if I remembered her. I remarked at how she was dressed as Tink that day.

Then there was the family that I was talking to when I was working behind the counter that they were siting at. I ran into them many times in the theme parks the following days, and I ended up being able to provide them with a special moment :)

There was the lady who was wearing a Christmas hat from my school. Gave me a big hug when I said I went to the school! The law professor and his family that went to my school as well, their daughter had also completed a college program.

There was a couple coming in for a basketball tournament, who kept on coming in to our restaurant and I enjoyed making conversation with them. We also had a couple and their child come in as regulars, and the whole staff enjoyed whenever they came in.

Those are just some of the stories I remembered from my CP. I loved the guests, each one came in and just brightened my day.
