Some people pack light. I wear a small crossbody (we do stay on-site) but on our last few visits, I was astonished at how many people seem to be practically bringing luggage into the parks. I saw far more people with ginormous backpacks than I saw people with small bags. Are they packing for long-term survival in the event of a siege on the parks. I even saw people with multiple bags going through security.
.
I think some of that comes from the "How to do Disney for the First Time" advice that a lot of people receive on sites like this. It can seem like you need to pack for a survival scenario: Sunscreen, ponchos, extra shoes, a change of clothes, autograph books, plastic bags, thank you notes to hand to kind CMs, glow bracelets, mickey ears, snacks, bubbles, stickers, pins, lanyards, filtered water bottles, you name it, someone will probably tell you it is a disney essential. For a newbie, it can seem like you must do all of it or your trip will be a bust.
