Minors allowed at bar?

Thinking about stopping at the bar in Homecomin for a drink and appetizers. Would our 18 year old be allowed to sit at the bar with us?

where is home coming?
if you don’t make a big deal out of it, and are eating a meal, Disney restaurants don’t usually make a big deal out of it…. my son and I were eating at the bar at the Edison one day…. No issue shift change and the new bar tender asked to see his id….
i told him to show the guy his magic band…. Bar tender gave me a ration of poop…. I had the manager come over hand the bar tenders ration to the manager…. Manager apologized, state it was a state law that they usually over look….

so it depends. We had eaten there there times on two prior trip with out issue.

for the most part when it is just him and I we eat at the bar … no issue he is 19

18 is not a minor, although they are underage for drinking. Doesn't matter, they can sit wherever they want so long as they don't order any alcohol

Legal age varies by state. I don't know where the bar the OP is referring to is located. In Las Vegas, for example, you need to be 21 to drink/gamble at any of the casinos. If under 21, you can only walk through the casino on the way to somewhere else or your room if with your parents. Somewhere that is mostly a bar and happens to serve appetizers might have different rules then somewhere that is mostly a restaurant.

I realize at 18 he is no longer a minor, I meant to say underage. We were recently in Indiana and he was not allowed to be at the bar with us in a restaurant. This got me wondering if this could be the case in other places. It’s not an issue where we live. Thanks for the reply.

Pretty sure the law say 21
like also said for most cases the bar tender realize it is Disney Tables are crazy hard to get, and In my case he was having a meal with his father….. and Just dont ask

For the record, Homecomin' is at Disney Springs - so, Florida. I don't think there should be any issues with an 18 year old, but do make sure to order food and maybe a mocktail for the kid. While sitting there should be allowed, he is taking up a seat, so make it worthwhile for the bartender. I think that's usually the bigger issue. As a non-drinker, I am pretty aware of that sometimes, so I try to keep my spend - and tip - commensurate.

I have had mostly good luck with my son eating at the bar at a few places in the springs ..... shouldn't be an issue

There's no law in the state of Florida stating underage persons can't sit at a bar. The only law is that they are not to be served alcohol. I agree, if the bartender complains it is likely a space issue so maybe the underage guest could order some food or a non-alcoholic beverage. Some places do have their own rules - Space 220 is reportedly allowing only persons over 21 to walk up and sit at the bar, and Trader Sam's is 21 and up only after 8 pm. I don't know if Homecoming is one of those, but I don't believe they are, especially if the guest is not a minor.

Wish I had know that in June, I would have called the guy out for it....
Thanks

Ya know this is a WDW forum right? The question wasn't about laws everywhere?

Yup, I realize that................the OP wasn't specific and the name given could have been a city as well as a place. Another poster referred to legal age which does vary by state.

Florida has no rule for minors at a Bar some states do. Florida it is legal for an 18yo to sell and serve liquor (servers). But any Bar can make a policy to not allow anyone under 21 to sit at or be in a bar. I would never call a bar out for not allowing as long as they say it is a bar policy.... it is their liquor license and fines are hefty even if it was a parent who decided their child could have a Beer or whatever drink orders it and hands it to the underage person.

Legal drinking age does not vary by state. Maybe rules around sitting at bars do (but in your Las Vegas example that actually has more to do with the gambling devices than the alcohol).

We're from New England and a few years ago were only able to grab seats at the bar space at Flying Fish at Boardwalk for ourselves and two young (then preteen) sons. We asked if we were able to sit there with the boys. Server said "Yup. Welcome to Florida"
😆

LOL! Yup - when my DS was 4, we were waiting for a table at Sanaa and the host suggested we sit at the bar and have a drink while we wait . . . with a 4 year old. I'm from the NE, so the thought of sitting my son on a bar stool never occurred to me. They didn't blink an eye and were happy to serve him some juice. We did get funny looks from other guests, however, when he was about 8 and we sat at the bar at Nomad - the bartenders had zero issue with it.

We went to Yak & Yeti with our then 10 year old DD and sat at the bar and to get drinks while we waited to be seated for dinner. The bartender made us move as he stated that our DD was too young to sit at the bar. For what it's worth not another sole was at the bar. We are from Wisconsin with some of the most lacks drinking laws (a minor may have an alcoholic drink with parent consent until age 18 then nothing until 21) so we have always sat at a bar and waited for dinner ressies at home. We were somewhat shocked that they wouldn't even serve her a kiddy cocktail at the bar with us. YMMV

We stop at that bar so my daughter can get a very berry limeade or something like that which they have in the restaurant. We never sat at the bar. Just get the drink to go but Once I asked if she was allowed to out of curiosity and the bartender said no. I assume it is just a restaurant choice type of thing. I asked because at the hotel at cedar point she was not permitted to sit at the bar (during the afternoon) and I was wondering if that was a widespread rule or not. Because they said no I assumed (incorrectly as it seems now) that it isn’t a widespread rule. I rarely drink so I had no idea lol

Same here … I had even eatten at the bar at the Edison on the same trip, the bar tender as us to take a table and refused to service…. Manager was pretty useless… But the bar tender claimed it was a state law… Next night we at at the bar at one of Italian places….so it really depends who is working and how well the understand customer service.
