My 20yo wants to visit Montreal for a week. I have no idea what to do there except eat and shop. Fill me in good people of the DIS!

Try posting in the Canadian forum.

Haven't been there in years - there is a amusement park, Old Montreal, amphibus rides.

Hi, what time of year would it be? If summer there is ALWAYS a festival.. Just for laughs, Jazz, the list goes on and on..http://www.montreal.com/tourism/festivals/

Biodome is great..Eating, oh YES.. Shopping for sure.. We also have the largest underground shopping in the world, in case of bad weather. Fabulous http://www.montrealvip.com/montreal/undergroundcity.php
Old Montreal is something to see. I would spend an afternoon there, if in summer ride a caleche (Horse), they will give a nice little history tour at the same time..
Walking Crescent, St, Catherine for sure.
St. Josephs Oratory, Mount Royal is a FANTASTIC view of the city..

It would also be dependent on your interests? Museums? Casino? http://travel.usnews.com/Montreal_Canada/Things_To_Do/

La Ronde is our 6flags amusement park, it is meh in my opinion..

If you would like any specific info, ask away.

Mount Royal at night is beautiful. It's my fondest memory of
Montreal. Look for the building with the green triangle roof lol

There is so much to do in Montreal, it's got a little bit of everything! Lots of museums, shopping, restaurants, architecture, history... Just depends on what you are more interested in.

If you're planning to come in the summer the Jazz Festival is always a big hit. While a lot of the shows required a ticket, there are lots of free outdoor shows as well. If you're planning for the fall, going to Mt Royal and seeing the colours! And I would go apple picking! :)

If you go during the summer and want to spend a day relaxing, try Parc Jean Drapeau. We went swimming in the lake and were amazed at how clean everything was at the park. Employees were cleaning picnic tables and even trash cans when we walked in. There's also a swimming pool, but it was closed for renovations when we were there. It's a short metro ride from the city, and La Ronde is also there. The Botanical Garden is worth a visit if you have time, and there's a free shuttle between the Garden and the Biodome

If you want a little active adventure, we loved... and I mean LOVED Abraska, Rigaud
http://arbraska.com/en/rigaud/
It's a extensive zipline adventure with an extensive treetop ropes course. Most of the zipline stuff I've seen elsewhere is just basic and touristy. This is a real, make your way through the forest via the treetops adventure.

It's been several years, but I want to say it was an hour or less outside of Montreal.

I see that some Women's World Cup soccer matches were/are being played at Olympic Stadium. Do they still have the elevator ride up the inclined tower?

Definitely subscribing. I'll be there next weekend (7/4) for the montreal jazz festival

Rigaud and Hudson are beautiful areas just outside of Montreal. I have never been to Abraska, looks like fun.

If anyone is into Equestrian competitions - this area is home to many a show/competition (as is area below).

Eastern Townships of Quebec. Sits just below Montreal. Possible day/weekend trip from Montreal. I went to university there and it's truly God's country. Just gorgeous. Beyond in parts.

North Hatley is a wonderful day trip, sits right on the water, and is home to many antique shops. As is Ayer's Cliff. This entire area sits at some points mere minutes from the US border. New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine all border this area to discover. You can see the New England architecture with the loveliness of Quebec. I often drive home through the top of these US states and across Lake Champlain to go home.

Also, for any cyclists you can not beat this area as well. Beautiful country trails for miles and miles. Dedicated bike trails, despite the pictures attached. North Hatley is a great stop on one of the trails.

As for Montreal, I laughed at the original post because shopping and eating IS the best of Montreal. Insert wink. The best. Add live music and that's a wrap in the best sense meant!

I enjoy Crescent Street --- http://www.crescentmontreal.com/

Old Montreal is a can't miss.

They do, you can buy a ticket along with the price of admission to the Biodome.. The view is spectacular!!!!!!!!!

I haven't read all the responses, so forgive me if this was already suggested. Have pastries and hot chocolate(real hot chocolate...this is not cocoa) at Duc de Lorraine, then take a walk at Mont Royal park. Walk up to a beautiful overlook of the city there. When we go back, those are the two things we will do again FOR SURE.

Thanks. I've visited the 1976 Olympics site and rode up the tower years ago. Yep, great view. I was kinda wondering if the stadium/tower were still there, since it's probably not used very much since the Expos left town.
