Please post any problem or suggestions with the new search in this thread

Here is the announcement:

We have upgraded to a new version of "Searchlight" the search system we use on the boards. First off a big thanks to Floren from axivo.com for the incredible job he did writing the code for the new search system.

There are a TON of behind the scenes improvements but there are a couple specific things that you will notice.

1. If you double click a word it will highlight. You should see a magnifying glass symbol, if you click it you will get a pop up window that will search for that word.

2. You can highlight a phrase, the same magnifying glass will appear, click it and you will get a search for that phrase.

The above searches are always ranked by relevance.

Another thing you will notice is that search has been greatly improved in regards to relevance. Instead of just dumping the first 500 close threads it will search deeper into the boards and give more meaningful results.

If you notice any problems or have any suggestions please post in this thread: [U RL="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=35162927#post35162927"]Search Issues[/url]

Stay tuned Floren has promised some additional searching options in the next several weeks!

A few people have asked why you have to be logged in to use the new search. The reason is that there is no human verification. If you go to regular search and are not logged in you will notice the characters you have to type in to perform a search. That prevents internet bots from using search and killing the servers. Since there is no verification step in the new search we require you are logged in.

I am getting errors when clicking the links in emails for subscribed threads and also when trying to navigate in several threads.

Example error

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Searchlight_Exception' with message 'An error occurred while performing a Searchlight query:<br /> <em>Searchlight_Driver_Result: offset out of bounds (offset=1710, max_matches=1000) - SELECT @id AS seekid, postdateline FROM post WHERE threadid = 996898 AND visible = 1 ORDER BY postdateline ASC LIMIT 1710, 15 OPTION ranker=proximity_bm25, max_matches=1000, cutoff=0, max_query_time=0, retry_count=5, retry_delay=0</em> <p>If you followed a valid link, please notify the <a href="mailto:support@wdwinfo.com">administrator</a>.</p>' in /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/includes/class_searchlight_driver.php:245 Stack trace: #0 /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/includes/class_searchlight_driver.php(132): Searchlight_Driver_Result->__construct(false, Resource id #19, false, '??????SELECT @i...') #1 /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/showthread.php(941): Searchlight_Driver->query('??????SELECT @i...') #2 {main} thrown in /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/includes/class_searchlight_driver.php on line 245

Some others are reporting similar problems http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2382015

also when using the magnifying glass search

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Searchlight_Process::exception() in /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/includes/class_searchlight_process.php on line 296

I got this when I tried to search by screen name:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Searchlight_Process::exception() in /usr/local/lsws/disboards/htdocs/includes/class_searchlight_process.php on line 296

Search is turned off right now, we are trying to fix some of the bugs that were discovered today

When I try to do a search on a single forum, it's bringing up all forums that have a match.

I can understand why people would want this and think it's valuable for most. That being said, is it possible for a user to turn this feature off?

I use a loptop and click regularly to set where I want to scroll from/to. Many times I double click out of habit and have brought up the search feature when I didn't want it.

thanks.

Hehe, I coded this feature and I have the exact habit as you! Myself, I either double click or highlight text for fun, while I read. It looks like both of us need to change their browsing habits, if nobody else complains. :)

Floren

All those error related bugs are fixed also. :)

I'm a highlighter too when I read. Of course I'm on a regular PC, so it's not quite as annoying to close the search. I just have to get out of the habit of clicking again when I stop highlighting.

On another note... I frequently use "find more posts by this user"... just to scroll through all the topics i've posted in to check for new replies. (I don't like the whole subscribe to thread thing and getting a million emails). But everytime I do that, it's not bringing up anything more current than yesterday... Like yesterday when I did it, it said results updated 2hrs ago, then 6hrs ago, today it say results from yesterday. Generally it brings up posts that I made less than 5 mins ago.

We are still fine tuning the search, we are aware there are no results since yesterday, we should have it fixed in a day or two

We believe all of the problems above have been fixed with a new version we put in place last night. Please post any new issues or if you are still seeing old issues

The problems seem to be intermittent - an issue I have seen is searching for both text within posts and posts by a particular user - simply doesn't work sometimes.

Perlster, could you give a really specific example (actually anyone with this problem)
In other words what we need to know is that at 930am I searched for grand floridian by user mickey on the trip report forum.
That would help us track down any issues
Thanks
