Normandy/Omaha Beach

We would like to visit Normandy/Omaha Beach next summer while we're in Paris but I'm not sure what the best plan is. We will be in Paris for 3 days/2 nights before checking into the Marriott's Village d'ile-de-France for 5 nights. It looks like it takes 2.5-3 hours each way.

Would it be best to travel to Normandy on one of the Paris days or during the time at the Marriott?

If you've done Normandy/Omaha Beach from the Paris or DLP area, did you drive yourself or take a tour? If you took a tour, what tour company did you use?

My first choice would be to just spend one of our nights in a hotel in Normandy, but DH doesn't want to go this route.

TIA!

You should post this on this Disney cruise section here on DIS. The Disney Cruise ship Magic has been to Le Harve on various routes and the Normandy/Omaha Beach is one of the port excursions. Some cruisers have organised their own tours of the Normandy/Omaha Beach and some have done the Disney organised tours.

Most Europeans dont really Normandy/Omaha Beach as part of a Paris / Disneyland trip.

Thanks. I was thinking more of a tour from DLP or Paris, not from the Normandy/Omaha Beach area. As we are from Colorado and this is a once in a lifetime to France trip, we will be going to the area from Paris or DLP. DH is a history teacher so this a do-not-miss location.

We just did 2 weeks in France this past summer. We did one week doing the Normandy Coast line and then drove through the loire valley and then do DLP for 4 days.

Its an awfully long day to travel from DLP and back. I would suggest renting a car and maybe doing an overnight in the Normandy area. It was by far one of the most humbling experiences i have been through. Whatever you choose to do, I hope you have an incredible trip.

If you go by train, the minimum is 4,5 hours and 2 transfers from DLP to Bayeux. By car it's about 3,5 hours. To take a relaxed pace, I wouldn't do it 1 day. This is not something to rush.

I also feel that you need to stay over for at least a night to make the most of your experience there - Doing it in a day you are talking about approx 8 hours travelling time so wont have long to actually see anything

Thank you for the information. I will continue to work on DH about just staying a night in Normandy.

Put it this way, would you base in San Diego and do a day trip to Disneyland using the AMTRAK train and UBER? Thats basically what Disneyland Paris to Normandy would be like.
