Northern FL Turnpike To Become Cashless Tolls

I just received my transponder for the new E Pass Xtra from CFX.
It was $18.50 plus tax and $10.00 to start the account.
No monthly or yearly fees and it's good on all FL toll roads and every EZPass toll road in the country.

jacksonville area:

http://floridaexpresslanes.com/northeastfl/ I-295 from the Buckman bridge to has a short stretch that has an additional cashless toll lane attached. Tolls are only collected during rush hours (6-10am, 3-7pm; M-F) ...this may change but this is the most current info.

The First Coast Expressway is being worked on, and is up for use at least in part. It will run from I-10 to I-95, eventually giving people a way to avoid the downtown mess that is Jax. We use it to go from Blanding to Oakleaf Plantation (Argyle Forest); cuts travel time down by 15-20 minutes; avoiding all that congestion on Blanding.

They are adding more lanes, to be used for tolls, on parts of I-295, but those are not near completion yet.

The Florida Turnpike, and most of the state is about 10 years behind Miami-Dade County. We haven't had manned toll booths for years.

I think the Turnpike is cashless ONLY in Miami-Dade right now, but I could be wrong. Toll booths cost a fortune and are a complete waste of money with today's (or even yesterday's) technology.

It would be nice if FTE would get its act together and finally close the deal on interoperabilty with the E-ZPass group, before they remove the toll booths. They talk about all the wonders of technology, yet fail to fully utilize it.

OP: the title of the thread should be Central FL, not Northern FL.

Good thing we just purchased a Sunpass. We travel to Florida enough; we figured it would be worth it.

So this doesn't mean my EZpass from the north will work. They just incorporated sunpass/ezpass into a newer type transponder

E-ZPass is accepted on SOME toll roads in Central FL.

Toll roads operated by the Central FL Expressway Authority (CFX) accept E-ZPass.
Toll roads operated by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) and the FL Department of Transportation (FDOT) don't accept E-ZPass.

This link has details and a map of which toll roads accept E-ZPass: https://www.cfxway.com/e-zpass/

The E-PASS Xtra transponder which is referenced in post #3 above is from CFX so it's an E-PASS and E-ZPass.
SunPass and E-ZPass are not interoperable.

But the E-Pass Xtra does work on SunPass, E-Pass, and EZPass.

I've been assuming that my Peach Pass works for both CFX and FTE. Let's put it this way - I've made that assumption for a couple of years and haven't gotten a ticket in the mail. I'm thinking I'm better off sticking with the Peach Pass even after moving to Central Florida.

Yes, in FL both SunPass & E-Pass have interoperability with Peach Pass.

Again, only E-Pass has interoperability with E-ZPass.
