Not sure where to post this...

Walking anywhere from the Stratosphere isn’t really about distance it’s about getting to and from in one piece. It was a skeevy, dangerous part of town 30+ years ago. You couldn’t pay me to go down there.
.

That's the entire Vegas Strip with the guys trying to hand you the flyers for the "adult" entertainment. Like my son's coach said when he announced the team was going on the trip......."we're taking 19 teenaged boys from a Catholic High School to Sin City."

No it isn’t. Not even close. There’s a huge difference between adult entertainment handouts and meth/crack heads and herion junkies who would sell their own mom for their next fix and would certainly think nothing of taking out a naive tourist for spare change. It’s the difference between a “little edgy and uncomfortable” and too risky to even think about.

Plus they can have a girl in your room in 20 minutes but a pizza takes 30. So just ask the girl deliver, you save 10 minutes. :dancer::dancer:

North Las Vegas is MILES from the Stratosphere.

How about Treasure Island? Any better?
Never stayed there but have stayed next door at the Mirage. Much better location. Lots of other casinos in the area and also the Fashion Show Mall. Easier to find places to eat ( of varying price points:thumbsup2)

I stayed at SLS for a convention two years in a row. Easy access to the monorail. I liked their sports book bar. :) There was never a lot of activity in the casino when I walked through it.

It's just a block or two from the Stratosphere. I'd have no problem staying there again, but wouldn't necessarily be a first choice (if that makes sense).

Still not a place you want to stay if you intend on leaving the building, especially on foot.

As far as North Las Vegas, it’s come up in the world. Deep, old school N. Las Vegas, yeah, not a great place but you’re talking a relatively small area compared to the neighborhoods that have been built up around it and are still North Las Vegas. I grew up in North Vegas and have no problems visiting that area, I just avoid that one particular section.

Yes, @Domo, Treasure Island is an infinitely better choice.

The map PP used to prove their point about high crime rates showed an area MILES north of the Stratosphere.

Now, if you're staying at the Stratosphere (or SLS), how much are you really going to be walking outside the hotel? Call an uber/lyft/taxi or hop on the monorail and go sightseeing where ever you want. While possible, I would not suggest walking from that area down to the strip (or to Old Vegas).

My point was it’s not a great area. It’s not even an okay area.

The issue may be moot.

I've struck a deal with my employer who is amiable to giving me the money on layaway :)

My (very nice) options are: Palazzo, Wynn, Trump and Vdara :)

One last query... the Luxor. Either in a pyramid room or tower room? Cheaper than the others but looks cushy :)

I have stayed at Treasure Island in February and really liked the location and the smaller than average size of the hotel casino. It's attached to a CSV store which was convenient for snack & beverage items and also has several good restaurants. My most recent stay in LV in October was down on Freemont at the Golden Nugget which was cheaper than the strip and the hotel is quite nice with many restaurants. It cost about $15 to Uber/Lyft out to the strip.

Trump is offstrip and Vdara doesn’t have a casino, so I’d cross those off your list.

Palazzo and Wynn are both lovely. I think the Palazzo might be undergoing construction at the moment though, so I’d probably give the nod to the Wynn. The sportsbook there is beautiful.

I hope you win enough to pay your employer back.

I think we all know that's not going to happen ;)

I'm actually pretty alien to many of the casino games. Slot machines are just confusing, poker is a mystery as is crepes. Roulette I get. Blackjack should be straight forward, but there are about 8 different types! The amount that some people play with is astronomical.

One thing I DO know is that the slot machines are the most likely things to get your money back on. Still against you, but less than the table games. And it's the machines near the entrance that pay out the most - just to suck you in!

That's all I know :p
