The Bubbles Part I
This is going to be in two parts. The first part is the jar and the second part is the wand.
I wasn’t sold on a basket for the flower girl. It would add too much to the wedding and I would have to make it 1950’s or find a way to zombify it. This left me racking my brain for an alternative for months. We wanted something easy for her to hold, she is three years old so not too big. Something that wouldn’t over whelm her and it is extremely important to me that she like the idea of doing it. She’s going to walk down the aisle and as much as she likes the attention, actions will make her shy. I wanted something she would like doing no matter who was watching.
So sitting around my DH’s grandma’s house she starts begging for bubbles. Turns out she has a whole pack of bubbles there for her disposal. She will blow and blow in the living room getting everything covered in soap and great grandma just watches and laughs. Well great grandma won’t be at our wedding so it hits me, bubbles. She knows how to blow them, she loves to do it, and we can get bubbles for the guest to blow as I walk down the aisle or something. To add the icing to the cake, it’s a tip of the hat to my DH’s grandmother who won’t be able to make it.
So I wanted something cute and unique. The kids seem to be the exception to the theme because I just want them to be happy and excited. So I figured a glass jar and a homemade wand. DH has started to look at how to make them and he is down. He can do it in an hour and I can decorate it. He can make two so she gets used to using it.
I knew the jar had to be glass, but I didn’t know much else. I didn’t want to change her bubble blowing too much by giving her something completely unfamiliar and I don’t want her to be over practiced because the cute things come natural. So DH and I went to a craft store to get a cheap glass bottle., nothing over $2. We found one that has a wide opening and is about the same size as the bubble bottles she already uses so we decided to go with that.
Then we went to the wire section and picked up a pink 18 gage wire as a decoration for the wand. I thought it was so cute I was going to use it on the bubble bottle to add grip so when the jar got all soapy she wouldn’t drop it and cry. At some point while I was looking for accessories for her dress I found some cute butterflies and so I added it to the jar. I just have to clean up some hot glue, but here is the semi-finished bubble jar:
