Personal WiFi

That is who Tom Bricker recommends. We have booked them based on the fact that "Tom Bricker is always right". :)

When do you travel? I can comment on our experience in a few weeks.

We leave for Tokyo Disney on September 23rd!! We'll be there for four days and then embark on a cruise.

I'd be interested in your experience with this, we are leaving Nov. 2nd and I've been thinking about getting the portable wifi.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one. It will cost approximately $62 for the nine days we will be in Japan. I wonder if it will work on the cruise ship while we are sailing from Tokyo to Shimizu and then to Osaka.

I was thinking about renting a personal WiFi device while I am in Japan. Does anyone have experience with this company:

Thanks!

I would recommend them as well. I used them when I first moved to Japan and whenever someone comes to visit they always go with this. Never had any issues.

Another thing you can do as well, is sign up for the Starbucks wifi before you go. Then if you're at a Starbucks anywhere in Japan you can hop on their wifi. They require you to register to use it. Then you can save your battery/bandwidth on your mifi :)

Thanks! Good to know that you've never had any problems with them.

We are in narita airport now waiting to come home :( . We rented a wifi device from global advanced for 18 days and it was worth every penny. We have just dropped it off at the post office counter in Narita. No problems with signal and good communications from them prior to our trip confirming when it was sent so we could track it. I would definitely recommend it

Thanks! Another good recommendation!

I've been reading your wonderful trip report. Thanks so much for taking the time to write it. It has greatly enhanced my excitement for our coming trip!

Just to give you another option, we used http://www.rentafonejapan.com for our TDR trip last year, and we were *extremely* happy with them. They'll have everything waiting for you at your hotel when you arrive, and they went above and beyond to make sure we'd have a hotspot that would work for us.

I rented from Global Advanced during my two month(!) trip this summer. They are excellent; the pocket wifi worked great, never had a problem getting a connection, long battery life. Worth every penny.

Thanks! I think I'm going to go with Global Advanced. I've had several good recommendations for this company so I trust it more.

Kyjin - which one did you get - the 21 Mbps or the 75 Mbps ? Thanks!

I had the 75Mbps one. Be sure to order one early as they sometimes run out of them due to demand. Good luck!

Thanks! I just ordered it, got the e-mail and paid for it. I got the 75bps mainly because of the battery life. If I had gotten the other one, I would have had to get a spare battery.

Excellent! I hope it works out for you. :D Just be sure to shut it off when you're not using it, and it should last the whole day.

I also used Global and had no issues. It worked very well for us - even on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and back.

Thanks for this - just booked one
Costing less than hotel wifi - and I have it on me whenever I need it :)

I was recently in Japan for a week and rented a portable wi-fi from Sakura Mobile:

http://www.sakuramobile.jp

It cost about $75.00. The device worked perfectly; very easy to set up. I picked it up at Narita at the post office in Terminal 1 (fourth floor) and mailed it back using the provided mailing envelope. They will also deliver to your hotel.

I also used global and was worried about finding a mailbox to return it so I left it with the hotel front desk to send out for me. Worked very well except there was spotty reception on some ride queues like Splash Mountain and Raging Spirits.
