Pet Peeves at WDW.

This one has me a bit puzzled. Why would both spellings be correct? I know that it is listed but, why? When I was growing up there was only one spelling and that was Bus and the plural was Buses. Why would that have changed? When I see busses all I can think of is a swarm of bee's. (yes, I know that's buzz, but still.)

Do you suppose someone of "power" spelled it incorrectly and no one had the nerve to tell them so it just got included?

Either way, correct or accidental, it looks foolish and like a 1st grade spelling test to put that many s's in a six letter word. Even my spell check rejects it. So, I will continue to spell it the proper way instead of phonically. :teacher:
Plenty of words have more than one correct spelling - just look at the difference between British English and American English:

neighbour vs. neighbor
colour vs. color
realise vs. realize
haemoglobin vs. hemoglobin
oestrogen vs. estrogen

Both are technically correct, although British publications and education stick to one and Americans to the other.

Last year we wanted to try to catch wishes from the water taxi going to the Poly. There were a few people in front of us, we should have been able to fit all on one boat. I was excited. Well, the skipper got to talking with the first couple for a while. Wishes had started and the mom in front of us got really, really mad. The skipper decided to take that family out on the boat alone. Well, that pushed the mad mom over the TOP. She was yelling at the skipper while the boat was taking off. I tried to say it was "extra special magic" and that was the wrong thing to do.
While I think the person in front of you may have over-reacted, I also think the CM was in the wrong for leaving you all there. If there was room on the boat for everyone why couldn't everyone share in the magic? :confused3 Not to mention that some people may have actually wanted to get back to their resort.

It is lovely to think that extra magic was sprinkled upon the couple and the pp was very gracious, but I tend to think some extra cash may have been promised to the captain during his moment alone with the couple.

People who think that, as a teenager, I have no right to be in line for a character/a "kiddie" ride/at WDW or DL at all, or people that assume I'm going to be rude and cause problems purely because of my age. :confused3

I remember hating that too when I was your age...however, I also never realized how obnoxious I was either until now. It's a loose loose at your age. At least it will end one day. Now that I'm in my 20's...it's so weird to see teenagers and be like, "OMG was I really that annoying...???". Yes, I think I was at least sometimes...

True...however, and this may be a small point, we are not in Canada or any British lands. I can tell you what I think the motivation is, but it is kind of snotty and not really germane to this discussion. Suffice it to say, I will stay with buses. :)

OTHER PEOPLE!!!

Let's just say what we mean...other people at WDW annoy us...that's what we really mean...OTHER PEOPLE OTHER THAN THE CM'S WHO WORK THE RIDES....all those people annoy us...:lmao:

Yeah we all could have and it would have been nice. For some reason the CM chose to take one family, and I don't know why?

Really? I have never thought of that before. Does that happen?

My pet peeve in WDW is the way time speeds up and a week passes so much more quickly than any of the other 51 weeks in the year!

{RANT}

Racists who feel like as long as it's not a traditionally opressed people they're allowed to say whatever they want is my pet peeve.... AS an Italian.

Have you ever thought what that would sound like if you replaced Italian with BLACK?

You seem pretty racist now don't you? Maybe even feel bad? But because we Italians aren't traditionally an opressed people you feel like you can just say whatever you want. Let's try it again with Jewish?

Again, seems horribly racist no? Maybe you should learn to think before you open your mouth or put hands to keyboard. From what I can see 100% of Squidgyness' LOVE to stereotype but are one of those people who say things like "Believe me. I don't like to stereotype" or "no offense intended but" to mask their true hatered and bigotry. This is a Disney board, there are usually if not always kids here, they don't need another place to learn this insanity...

{/END RANT}

Anyway back on a decidely more Disney topic my only real pet peeve at Disney World is the god awfull hat in Hollywood Studios. I'd like to SEE that theatre that they took so long to replicate, but nooooooo.....

BRAVO ! And well spoken kudos to you my friend!:thumbsup2

Really? I have never thought of that before. Does that happen?

I truly love the way you think, so I'll be less pessimistic and fairy dust the World and pretend it doesn't. Frankly, I don't know if it does or doesn't, just was the first assumption I had.

People that stop abrubtly stop walking no matter where they are or who is behind them. Pull over to the side get a map and clear the walkway for the rest of us.

I normally try to but I had a brain fart in Fantasyland once right after contruction started and for some reason got totally confused about where I was...somehow flipped the area around in my head and ended up abrubtly stopping in front of a couple people by accident...

due to me acting like an idiot, so there you go...:lmao:

While I agree with most of the pet peeves, I do need to relax when I am on vacation and try to take a deep breath and ignore or move around those bothering me. BUT....I would like to confess that sometimes I am guilty of my own pet peeves...I AM NOT PERFECT!

1. I have hit people in the ankles with my stroller. HAVE YOU SEEN HOW PACKED SOME OF THE PATHS GET!!!! When you are trying to exit with everyone else and keep up with the pace and then the group in front of you stops suddenly to take a look at something instead of moving to the side it's going to happen. If it was truly an accident I will apologize and try to be even more attentive, but if you are not be considerate of others and stop suddenly to look at a map in the middle of the path - oh well.

2. I have stopped in the middle of a group trying to exit a ride and held up people behind me. You see one year (just before our annual trip) I was diagnosed with vertigo....not fun. It was pretty much gone (8 weeks later) when we got there and I stayed off most questionable rides, but I was feeling good that day and tried EE :headache: I stood up and WDW was spinning out of control. I knew it would pass in time, but my DH had to cut past a few people to get back to me and escort me out to a seat.

3. I cut through a packed crowd one time! However, my DD then 8 months had vomited ALL over me so they didn't mind me cutting through to get the heck out of there (it was ALL over me - my hair and shirt was covered).

4. I did speak with a "Mom" tone one time to a CM. I got to a line for a character and they told me the line was closed. It opened at 8 p.m. and was closed at 8:05 p.m.. I politely asked why and he said it was based on a count. I asked politely if I could just take my chances and wait. I promised not to argue if it was 8:30 p.m. and the character left and I did not get my chance. This is when he started getting snotty and pulling his 16 year old authority. What irked me even more was a woman (who had no business butting in the conversation) started to defend the process. I simply looked at her and said I did not ask her opinion and to stay out of it. This was our last night for this trip (total 11 days) and I was DONE!

Okay to long winded. I guess what I am trying to say is that he who is not guilty cast the first stone. While I have pet peeves I am not perfect and therefore we may catch individuals who are not perfect as well.

(Also, if anyone sees me pushing my DD5 in the stroller this trip - they say the average person walks 5 miles a day in WDW (PP). My little 35 lb DD cannot handle this much walking in one day. So I will determine what age is convenient for our family to not have a child in a stroller. Opps - there is another pet peeve I am guilty of in someones opinion. Thank you for your opinion. However, opinions are like belly buttons. Everyone has one, but they don't necessarily do anything. But that's just my opinion!:yay:)

My pet peeves are when people stop right in the middle of a walkway. Always bothers me. And when your watching a show like Mickey's Philharmagic or something along those lines and there is a screaming/loud talking child.

Main Street USA...the lights dim and Wishes starts...and a kid goes up on the shoulders of the man right in front of you...and you can see NOTHING of the fireworks. RUDE!!!

I have pet peeves also, most of which were mentioned here.

People who are unaware of anyone or anything around them

People who will push between a parent and a small child either walking side by side, holding hands or a parent who has just made eye contact with a child who was "missing" for 2 seconds and is calling the childs name. The person walks right between me reaching for my 3 year old.

Spitting, gross, I hate stepping in it or having droplets coat my face as I walk past.

I do have 4 children and my 6 and 2 year old will ride in a stroller as the pace and distance we walk is unreasonable to expect them to walk. They wouldn't make it past lunch and/or someone in our family would have to carry them for periods of time which is no fun when you are already hot and sweaty.

I also will not tolerate of my own children acting out . If they have fit,(which isn't often) I remove them from the venue, line, restaurant, and take them to a more private place until they are calm again. If need be that can be the hotel room for a break. I do not allow them to be rude to others and disrespectful. I always grab my child and make them apologize if they cut in front of someone/run into someone or something like that. But at DW kids get excited and sometimes forget manners. I also will not tolerate them leaning or laying across a stranger no matter how cramped it is.

That said, this will be our first trip to DW, however we have been at DL as well as many other busy public venues. I also think we just must be mindful of other people and their feelings too. We aren't the only people at DW and must share. Another lesson my children are familiar with , but will be reinforced while at the most magical place on earth.
