Seating at nightly shows in theater question

We are cruising in May on the Dream. I know that what is the procedure today is not what might be in May but for anyone who just recently got back from a cruise what is the current procedure for seating in the main theater. I read in a recent thread that cast members were seating people and having spaces between parties. Is this still the case? My SIL is currently on another cruise line and they said the shows are crowded and people can sit where ever they want so they are not going to shows.

Yes, current procedure is still space between parties, although right now the cruises are VERY empty so that procedure is still easy. Remains to be seen how they will adapt when numbers start climbing again of course. I must say I loved being escorted to an empty seat instead of having to wander around asking "is this seat taken" like the old days.

Every other row was empty on the Magic in December, plus side-to-side distancing between guests within a row. Masks were enforced but people were allowed to bring food and drink, so there was a lot of on-and-off. I didn't see anyone abusing it.

Keep in mind that they've adjusted the show schedules as well. Each ship is showing its "featured" show multiple times, so the theater is better able to absorb the crowds.

Does this mean preludes is open (the drink/popcorn stand outside the theater)? It was closed when I sailed and they had a no food policy, although drinks were allowed.

*sigh* letting my kids scarf down popcorn is the only way I get them to sit still/quiet. Hope that comes back. Seems no different risk-wise than the main dining room as long as we are all 6ft apart.
I didn't see any popcorn anywhere the whole cruise now that I think about it. It's as if they determined that there's something particularly covid-y about popcorn itself.

Even though it seems arbitrary it makes sense to me. People have to eat dinner so there’s really no way around having people gather maskless in the dining rooms. People don’t *have* to eat popcorn and also tend to eat it continuously through most of a show, so will have masks off for a long time. So they are trying to keep the highest-risk behavior to the dining rooms (and bars) and make the theater situation safer. I’m sure an added bonus for the crew is that they don’t have to clean up spilled popcorn! :)

Just be prepared. We sailed on the Magic last month and neither food nor drink (including water) were allowed in the theatre. It was a shock to us because we also sailed on her in December, just a month earlier, and drinks were allowed at that time.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I really appreciate following these boards and reading all the comments. I know that there is always a wealth of knowledge here that I can turn to for assistance :)

O'Gills had popcorn in January in the evenings. They had a popper set up in the area where there used to be snack foods. The bar servers would bring a small box if you asked.

Not popcorn, but O’Gills also has a good tasting pretzel and nut mix the bartender will serve you.
