Intro and Hotel
We had a wonderful trip and I wanted to share some info on the places we went. My DH(40) and I(34) spent 7 days at DL and the surrounding area. We rented a car from National and found our way around no problem, although traffic was heavy sometimes. The weather was perfect in the 70's with sun every day. We did rent lockers at each park for our sweatshirts because it got cool around 5pm each day. We stayed at Howard Johnsons on harbor for $64 per night. We walked to the parks each day, but they do have a shuttle available. If anyone else is planning on staying there, do not accept a room that is facing the freeway as they are very loud at night.
Disneyland
We have been to WDW many times but this was only our second trip to DL. This park is beautiful and is my favorite. The park was busy but we used fastpass where available and we didn't really do much waiting. We spent 2 1/2 days here and I didn't want to leave. Many of the rides are better at DL and some don't exist in WDW. Our favorites are Indy (use fastpass), BTMRR, Storybook boats, Pirate's (which was not open), Matterhorn, and even the autopia was far superior here. Main Street is also much better at DL. Some things that we feel are not as good as at WDW are Splash, the castle (it looks so much smaller at DL), and the entire tomorrowland color scheme looks old and rusty. Fantasmic was spectacular and well worth the hour and a half wait and the believe fireworks were nice also.

This was a fun day and the park was better than I expected. I was not really expecting much and told my DH that we would probably not be able to fill our day here. I was wrong. Although more headliner rides would be nice, we loved Soarin, Sunwheel, and California Screamin. We did not go on the raft ride because we saw how wet people were getting. The animation building was fun and informative, and the parade was beautiful, ecspecially at night when we saw it. Overall,it was a really good day.
In Part 2 I will give my impressions of Knottsberry, Magic Mountain, Universal,restaurants and Downtown Disney.
