Snakes

I've never seen a snake at DW, but my sister and her girls saw a big black (harmless) one at Blizzard Beach once. And DH and one of our boys saw one swimming in the tube river thingy there one time, as well. I guess people were bailing out of the water as fast as their arms and legs would carry them :) !! We used to camp at FW. Some of us would sleep in the pop-up, and the boys would sleep in a tent. I worried tremendously about any unwelcome guests who might find their way into that tent, but the only time any critter got in, it turned out to be a little suction-cup frog who could cover twenty feet in one leap. Watching DH try to catch that little guy with a paper cup, in the dark, trying to keep the hub-bub down, is still one of the funniest incidents our family ever had at DW. And we have seen a tremendous number of armadillos grubbing around, as well as bunnies and lizards. We think they're all cool, but we don't try to catch any of them. Every critter has its defense mechanism, so rather than take any chances we get a picture of whoever and give them plenty of space.

I been to DisneyWorld 7 times in the last 5 years, and only on my last trip in May that I finally saw a snake. I was riding my bike in Fort Wilderness on the main sidewalk/trail near loop 1700 (the first campground loop near the front entrance) and I spotted a snake in the brush - it was thin, about 2 feet long, black, with a white chin. I watched it for a while, then spotted another identical one right near it. I checked my snake guide - I think they were black racers, a very common Florida snake. I actually like snakes, so I was quite happy to see them! :)

We were staying at Dixie Landings, and the whole family was messing around in one of the quiet pools. I got out to use the pay phone to call my boyfriend back in PA. When I finished, I walked back towards the pool, only to be stopped by a long black snake slithering across the walkway. I followed him for a little while until I lost him in the bushes. I may have also seen one at Typhoon Lagoon, but I could be mistaken. I clearly remember the one at Dixie Landings though...it was king of long.
