They used the info to open a Discover business card. I put a freeze on all 3 credit reports. Is there anything else I should do? I looked at Credit Karma account and it appears that is all they have done.... so far.

Thanks for any advice.

When someone opened a credit card in my name a couple years ago, I froze all my credit. I have credit monitoring, so they told me to fill out another form with the credit bureaus alleging the fraud. I also called the credit card company that I supposedly opened the card with - the info is on your credit report - and told them it was fraudulent. Took months, and an investigation by the credit card company where the fraudulent card was opened, but it did fall off all my credit reports.

As a PP said, you NEED to file a police report. My husbands info was stolen and used to open a number of payday loans. Even though he had his credit frozen with the three agencies and no one was supposed to open a line of credit in his name-they did many times. That police report is what saved us a lot of headaches. When the creditors started calling we would simply tell them they weren't supposed to open the line of credit and here is the police report number. It was then completely their own fault.

Do you think once you froze the credit, the perp just gave up and went onto the next person? This is the second offense - the first one being they got ahold of my Chase Ink Business account, which I then closed. I should have frozen my credit then, but I thought it was a one time thing.

I didn't think about them taking out a loan and the lender not trying to pull my credit report. I guess I should file a police report. I wish they went after people like this but the rep at Discover said they never do.

keep a CLOSE eye on discover. we had identity theft with them at one point that took over a year to resolve. after which-they opened a new account in our names and transferred all the debt, late fees and penalties which they tried to come after us for. any conversation, any email, text, letter....keep for several years just in case.

Thanks for the info. Discover called me and let me know they opened the account and tried to use it, and it was declined. They closed the account with no balance. I think Discover might have tightened their security quite a bit. I had no idea anyone opened the acct in my name until they called me and let me know. The card was declined because they saw that it was suspicious which is weird since they opened it for them in the first place.
