Songs about leaving

So it's a Friday night and we are allowed to stay up late. Elder sister and I are in our room, reading The Hobbit to each other out loud. In the background, Vince Scelsa, a NYC radio DJ is playing allllllll of Madman Across the Water on WNEW.FM this night (how did I remember his name?!). Sister and I, put our books down and begin to sing Levon out loud and Mom comes in the room and asks us to stop caterwauling :lmao:. Errrrrrrr sister was infamous for her inability to sing on key but could play a mean flute. On the other hand I could hold a tune but was miserable at percussion instruments; lemme dance.

I'm currently stuck in a feel good time warp recalling the moment and can almost feel the scratchiness of the wool blankets thru the sheets:

(ETA I really like this song!)

Same bed but it feels just a little bit bigger now
Our song on the radio but it don't sound the same
When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down
'Cause my heart breaks a little when I hear your name

It all just sounds like ooh, ooh ooh hoo hoo
Mm, too young, too dumb to realize

That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party 'cause all you wanted to do was dance

Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man

My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, oh
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes

It all just sounds like ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Mm, too young, too dumb to realize

That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party 'cause all you wanted to do was dance

Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man

Although it hurts
I'll be the first to say that I was wrong
Oh, I know I'm probably much too late
To try and apologize for my mistakes
But I just want you to know

I hope he buys you flowers
I hope he holds your hand
Give you all his hours
When he has the chance
Take you to every party

'Cause I remember how much you loved to dance
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

This was a good one, low key. Many songs were written about the heartbreak of a breakup. I know this coincides with your feelings about retirement, so hopefully we can keep this going! Sometimes a good cry over a good song helps you feel a lot better. I know it does for me! :p :grouphug:

Time to say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli.
Sorry I am not tech savvy enough to send a link but it's a beautiful song.

Also Disneylover99 thanks for the memory
Zeppelin's Baby I'm Gonna leave you is a very personal song. Takes me back. Way back.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
