Strangest reason you know of someone quitting/getting fired from a job

Someone got fired for taking a nap in the cardboard recycling bin (Huge trash container in the parking lot), when he was supposed to be taking out the office recycling.

Someone I worked with at a retail store was fired for using a marijuana vaporizer while on the sales floor.

A lot of stoners worked at that store and they didn't care but doing it while talking to customers was apparently crossing the line. :rotfl:

My cousin got fired from several jobs because they expected him to show up on time, work and limit his breaks to...you know...like...break time.

I was hired to do a job after someone left to have a baby. Not a big deal, that happens all of the time.

This woman wasn't pregnant. Apparently she thought she needed to be home full time to get pregnant.

Buddy who worked at K-Mart during school let his girlfriend through the checkout line with a $25 charge for about $400 in merchandise.

Someone called in sick on Friday. They used their company gas credit card to put gas in their company car on that day...which you are allowed to drive only when working, and to go to and from work........in a town 800 miles away.

Worked with a guy years ago that had two kids and very little money, long story short his wife's grandmother died and left them a couple hundred thousand dollars in CASH (that was literally under a mattress according to him) and he basically got VERY fat and content and kind of just quit showing up for work.....

Way before internet was common, some guy was calling those $3.99 per minute phone sex lines several times a week from a company line.

I used to work in IT. You'd be surprised how many people face disciplinary action or dismissal for visiting "adult" sites on the job. I wouldn't think a cubicle offers enough privacy and yet it was something I ran into more than just once or twice... The worst was catching someone for the first time because they would get a warning before firing but I would forever feel "icky" about helping that particular employee with future computer issues.

One ex-coworker wrote and published an e-book about a battle/war against management, set in the office. Some of the characters were obviously inspired by real-life people. I don't think that's entirely why he got canned, but I found it quite creepy.

The other I thought of was the one who went to prison for extortion & strong armed robbery. He decided working for a bookie was more lucrative.

I fired a temp for viewing hard core gay porn on my computer. He was in my office to do some filing while I was at a long meeting. Meeting was not as long as planned... He left the window open but miniaturized

Years ago in Arizona worked for insurance agency the Alex Trebek endorses :)

They hired a new employee in our department and she stunk to high heaven like urine and cat box. It was summer. We were an all female department and kept telling supervisor it was impossible to work because of the smell. They thought we were being mean. We all came in one day and our chairs were mixed up (we could tell as they weren't adjusted right). Stinky claimed it was her chair and someone had peed on it (insinuating one of us). Finally they said we couldn't discuss the odor among ourselves, but to let them know if it was bad (for a few days she didn't smell because they'd talked to her about cleaning herself). So that was the trick because we each complained individually and stinky disappeared never to be seen there again. I honestly don't know what reason they gave her, but after we all said something individually in one day she never came back.

Had a friend fired for taking a personal day because his knee was sore. It was sore being down on his knees for the previous day's 8 hr shift chipping paint off concrete. He was fired for not reporting this "injury" per the company hand book.

I got fired because I decided to stop showing up on Fridays at a crappy factory job I once had through a temp agency.

I was legitimately out sick one day (and we didn't have paid sick time) so when I got my paycheck for 32 hours instead of 40 and noticed it was only $30 difference, I decided that 8 hours of my time wasn't worth $30. I stopped showing up on Fridays (that was the beginning of the work week for this job), I wouldn't even call in, I'd just come to work on Saturday like everything was cool. It took about 4 months before someone caught on and told me not to come back to work.

I had a colleague fired for stealing. She was stealing narcotics from patients in the ER (she was a nurse practitioner). She was using the drugs too. Interestingly, she was not fired for using the drugs as apparently addiction is considered to be a disability. But she was fired for stealing. The hospital was required to pay for her addiction counseling. I guess there is a big problem among doctors, nurses and pharmacists concerning substance abuse.
