Day 2
I set the clock on my phone forward since we would be going back one time zone on our first port day. The only way I could figure out how to do it was to disable the automatic time detection, plus it was in the 11PM hour, so when I set it forward I also had to change the date forward.
Throughout the night we got up several times to go potty. Fran is still having trouble getting in and out of bed after her last hospital stay, and with the choppiness of the seas. I didn't feel comfortable with her walking across the room without my help to steady her. We must have woken up three or four times in the night, pretty much every two hours.
The last time she woke me up was at 7AM, so I probably got less than six hours of sleep that night. When she woke me, I realized that I was about to miss the sunrise. I got her situated and then took a few snaps with my phone. The pictures from the big camera come out much better, but these weren’t bad.
It was instantly clear to both of us that we had reached calmer waters. The ship was traveling very fast through the night, most likely in an attempt to get out of the storm before the second day of the cruise. It was also considerably warmer.
I got her situated back in bed, got dressed and headed up to deck 9. Real coffee was my destination. I'm not one to drink your standard colored water. At home I brew my Keurig on the most concentrated strength, and it takes 3 pods just to get my one cup of coffee.
I love the ship in the early morning. The crew are cleaning everything up super clean. Hardly anyone is about.
This is the adult pool area, not very busy in the morning either.
The Cove Cafe is where you go to get premium coffee. It's pricey, but I think I'm worth it!
I got an Americano with cream and a few tiny pastries (just to take off the hunger edge). We didn't want to spoil our appetites.
Fran asked for a cup of hot chocolate and I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty nectar dispensed from this machine!
The elevators got fancy since the last time I was on the ship.
Back in the room I caught up on my TR notes while sipping coffee.
Finally it was time to get ready for Palo where we would be having Brunch with our crew in the private dining room. I'm pretty sure we emptied and rinsed Winnie before we left, as a preventative measure.
Brunch was lovely.
While we were placing our orders Fran asked about the Strawberry Soup that hasn't been on the menu for years. The server said that they could still make it, they just needed advance notice, so we told her that we were going to be there on Wednesday at 8PM, and she would try to have it for us then. Everyone had a choice of Prosecco, a mimosa, or a non alcoholic beverage. Fran and I had the Prosecco.
The server brought two of each antipasto, meat.
Seafood
plus one for the vegetarians.
Our server brought every flavor of pizza that they served for the table. Sausage.
Margherita
Grape and goat cheese
She also brought us some bread service.
We also ordered off the menu. Fran got the Tomato Basil soup.
I started with the Eggs Benedict (which we split).
We also split the buttermilk pancakes.
I had tastes of the sausage pizza, the ahi tuna, some of the cured meats, and the other seafood. Fran and I were the only seafood eaters at our end of the table so we basically polished off the seafood plate.
To accompany the later dishes I chose this Gavi La Scolca.
We also ordered the Chicken Parmesan. This wasn't as I remembered it. What I remembered was a thinly pounded chicken breast, not one this thick. Don't get me wrong it was still good just not to die for like it used to be.
Fran ordered the Veal Saltimbocca, which was totally different than we'd had it before.
We ordered our desserts. Everyone was pretty full but I had budgeted appetite wise just enough room for dessert.
I'll be back with our dessert choices!
