Hi, guys! Although I'm 3 weeks away from my first trip to WDW with my family (I went once at 9yo), I already qualify under several of the criteria for membership. My DW is always complaining that I'm spending too much time planning our trip or browsing the DIS forums.

So, do you have room for a new member? :)

I live in Nagoya, Japan with my DW, DD3, and DS2. My name is Kent, but in Japan it gets changed to 'Kento'. I can't wait to see my kids' faces when they meet the various characters! :goodvibes

Woo hoo! Welcome Kent! That's awesome. Of course we have room for you. Sit right down, relax, enjoy reading through and jump in where you feel like it. Emma's Dad will be around soon to give you your number. You are our first Dad from Asia! (well at least, currently living in Asia, not necessarily from Asia, but I'm sure you knew what I meant). Now we're representing three continents... gotta love it!

Yippee! :cool1: So I'm the first guy living in Asia to become a member, huh? Cool. :cool2:
I'm sure that after our trip to WDW my family will want to follow it up with a trip to Tokyo Disneyland. That'll be a much shorter trip.

Looking forward to getting that member number. :thumbsup2

:dancer::welcome::dancer: To The Dis Dads. Emma's Dad will be around to give you your official member #.

You guys will have a blast:woohoo::yay:

Great pics Christopher:thumbsup2 It's amazing the changes they have made over the years. I'm not too crazy about the giant hat either:confused3

All I can say is we have to have a 1BR (since we're 5) - but yeah, wow. I love it. It is great having the extra space. When we went in January we took my folks and had a 2 BR at AKV - and I could actually see us doing that for just us in a couple more years as the boys get taller and bigger. The extra beds and bathroom will certainly come in handy. And being able to have our "own" spaces is very nice. That - or you just add more points. :rotfl: .

Just back from Gatlinburg tonight after a drive to Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, TN. It was not a Disney vacation, but a great Spring Break trip. We thought about adding on points and may do so in the future, but DW and I agreed to stay at all DVC resorts before we buy another contract. She is interested in Beach Club and I think Wilderness would be great.

I don't know how to post links to other threads. I know other DIS Dads are DVC members, so I'm just posting my original thoughts here. ... Just wondering if anyone else looked at DVC from a numbers standpoint like this.

I think there are many different number scenarios people have calculated out there. MouseSavers.com had a decent one as well. You can look it from a Studio vs. 1 Bedroom approach as well. DW and I both love Disney, honeymooned there, and dds love it each time we go. There is something about seeing that Christmas morning magic every day in WDW. I did DVC so that I could see that magic in my children, grandchildren one day, and in my wife. That's why DVC works for us. It does not work for everyone.

Just stopping in after lunch.. already mowed the lawn (first time this year),

Once again, I am the last one on my block to mow the lawn. And, the new Homeowners Association President lives 4 doors down from me - yikes! I am sure to get one of those nice, but hateful reminders.

Hey guys, I have been gone for a while and have very busy with the restaurant. Today is officially one week in and all has been very well received and we are very happy. I have put in a lot of hours in the last week but it is all worth it.

The only problem working for yourself is the lack of Dis time, my old work which by the way sees like a lifetime ago, gave me the opportunity to chat with you fellas. I feel like Im out of the loop. I am trying to get caught up with all the TR's and add an update to my own. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Nick
Welcome back, Nick, and we're all glad to hear the restaurant is doing well! Maybe you'll start a franchise and end up at DTD! :thumbsup2

Konnichiwa Kento-san!

Glad you found us and congrats on "coming home" for the upcoming trip! One of my staff went to Tokyo DisneySea a few months ago and it looked unbelievably cool. I'm sure you will be blown away with the changes to WDW since you 1st went.

So, what do you do overseas?

WELCOME!!

So I was going through some more old photos this evening and thought I'd scan and post a few more. This time these are from WDW in 1991. They are from my first ever visit. And honestly that was my first ever visit to anywhere east of the Mississippi. I was 21 at the time and had been dreaming of going east to WDW since I was 12 when I had watched the grand opening of Epcot on television.

My mom needed some highly specialized surgery and was referred to a specialist in Altamonte Springs who was apparently one of the top surgeons in the country for that particular problem - so she said come along and we'd go to Walt Disney World for a couple of weeks as well. She said I could stay at the hotel and enjoy the parks having more fun while she was recouperating in the hospital. Of course I was there at the hospital waiting while she was in surgery and went to the hospital each day she was there... but as she instructed... I still hung out at WDW and had more fun.

My brother flew out for about 3 days for the actual day of surgery and couple more afterwards too - and one day he and I went to the MK and then hopped over to Epcot. We had a great time. That was the one and only time he has ever been to WDW.

We stayed at the then named Howard Johnson Hotel on Hotel Plaza Blvd (which since then became the Courtyard and is now the Holiday Inn - part of the the Downtown Disney resort hotels that are all official WDW hotels, and on-property, just not owned or operated by Disney).

These are all really a blast from the past, as you just don't see these signs or images anymore.

Great news! We had no doubt you would have an awesome opening! Of course, you could miss one day here and still feel out of the loop :lmao: Hope your days aren't so long as the business starts setting it's normal pace :thumbsup2

So when does his thread get closed out, am I missing something?:confused3

Work permitting... the new thread will be created today. I want to be able to put the new address on page one of this thread BEFORE it gets closed.

Apparently, just as soon as Emma's Dad gets his trip report done.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: 11 months later......

Great news! It's amazing how priorities change when you're the one banking the payroll:scared1:.

BOB!! Glad you stopped by! How have you been??

Oh how I miss this view walking up Hollywood Blvd. I so wish they would tear down that wretched hat...

I LOVE the hat!! Of course, I don't remember the park when the hat wasn't there... so I'm biased! :rotfl:

These "old" pictures are just too cool. And thanks for sharing this stuff. Makes me wish I had taken more pictures back then. memories are getting fuzzy anymore.

Great pics again. But 1991 old?

HAHA! I was thinking the same thing!

Once again, I am the last one on my block to mow the lawn. And, the new Homeowners Association President lives 4 doors down from me - yikes! I am sure to get one of those nice, but hateful reminders.

Welcome back! I'm very glad our HOA is voluntary. There are times I drive past a house with pink shutters and re-think the voluntary thing... but then again... I can get away with tall grass! LOL! BTW... I've been cutting my grass for 3 weeks now :scared1:

Still no response to my email to Zazzle. I guess they are just ignoring it. :confused3
And, I'm waiting to see photos of any shirts that have actually been delivered!

Yeah... I'd love to see a pic of a delivered shirt! I only have 17 days to order and deliver mine! But I want to see the end product before I order....

Fed?.......Fed?......:confused3

Hope he didn't OD on bass.

WHERE'S FED?!? Did someone knock over the extraction beacon again?? :rotfl2:

Well let's just say it ruined a perfectly good wienie, as Walt called them. The Chinese Theatre so fits the overall theme of the perfectly stylized Hollywood that the Imagineers were going for - and the Hat does NOT. I think the hat would be just fine if they'd put it in say outside the park between the entrance, boat launch and parking lot... but not where it is.

I had forgotten about these images until I stumbled across them last night. There were a dozen or so more pics from that trip, but in reality just about nothing in the others is any different then now. I scanned the ones I did simply because they were all somewhat different than what we'd all find at WDW today. A lot can and does happen in 19 years, my memory is getting a bit fuzzy too. But that's what pictures are for!

OK guys... I need your help here. I'm getting ready to start DDC IV... but I need to reserve 8 posts for the stuff I'd like to put up there... and you have to wait like 40 seconds between posts before you can reply again. So... if it wouldn't be much trouble... Don't post to the new thread until I've given the green light in this thread :thumbsup2 And now... I'm going to say it again in bold so everyone can see it:
