First: The Red Carpet is back on E! :woohoo: ABC is starting their Red Carpet coverage earlier this year.

Second: There is NO show host. Instead, QUEEN is opening the show!

No, not THE Queen Elizabeth. QUEEN, the legendary rock band.

Two of the remaining members came out of retirement a few years ago and reformed the band with Adam Lambert, (former American Idol finalist,) as their front man in place of deceased Freddie Mercury. (Adam does not do a recreation of Freddie Mercury. Nor does he even try to sing like Freddie. Queen didn't want that. Freddie is irreplaceable.) They will perform, We Will Rock You! (written by guitarist, Brian May.) And will probably end with We Are the Champions, (written by Freddie Mercury.)

So no being late for the show - or if you will be, record it as it may be the best 10 minutes of the whole show, then progressively go downhill after that.

Later in the show: Bette Midler will sing the Mary Poppins Returns nominated song, The Place Where Lost Things Go. Emily Blunt is too terrified to even think of singing it.

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will sing her nominated song, Shallow, from A Star Is Born.

Everyone is invited. Newbies welcome!

It's the last, longest, hopefully the best, live award show of the season.

This is when they put on the best dresses.

:teacher: A little heads up for newbies: The Red Carpet segment goes really quickly on this thread. People are typing like crazy all at the same time, seeing different dresses.

If you post something or ask a question and it seems to get ignored, :( you are NOT being ignored. Everyone is just watching, typing & posting so quickly before the dress goes off the screen. We do most of the reading, scrolling back & posting back to each others' comments during the COMMERCIALS! :surfweb: Your posts will get a response then. :hyper2:

Once the show starts, it slows down to a more comfortable pace. Just hang in with us! It's going to be a great evening. :hyper2: :lmao:  :sad2: :thumbsup2

Yeah, ABC has been advertising this all week. What iI learned this week: Queen now does the 20rh Century Fox fanfare

I plan on being here! I’ve done a lot of traveling recently which helped me watch a bunch of the nominated movies in flight! It’ll be one of the first years I’ve seen more than the animated movies :rotfl2:

I'll be there! I didn't know Queen would be opening or that Adam Lambert was their lead singer now! I don't have cable so will join in once the red carpet coverage starts on ABC here. Looking forward to it!!

ETA: Just checked the tv guide and ABC has their red carpet coverage beginning live in 10 minutes here! So, 2:30 Denver time. I need to take my dog for a walk but will tune in as soon as I get back!

I will be here unless we don't have power. We have a high wind warning going until tomorrow morning and gusts could be up to 75 MPH. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh yeah. They're talking about power outages here due to wind. Hopefully we won't lose power.

:scared: Stay safe, Nancy. :grouphug:

I'll watch but not with much enthusiasm. I think that I'm the only person who doesn't like Bohemian Rhapsody and prefers A Star Is Born and the rest of the field is mostly "meh" to me. I have to see the dresses though.

I really, really wanted to go see "A Star Is Born," when I first heard about it. Lady Gaga, I couldn't give a fig about. But, I really like Bradley Cooper. He's worked really hard on his career and I'm glad this movie is a success for him. But, as I watched more and more press & promos for the movie, the less & less I wanted to go see it. I felt like I was being TOLD how much I will like it, and have no choice in the matter. :confused3 Then Lady Gaga started acting weird about all the praise she was receiving as an actress. All effusively humble, in a way I felt was so precious & phony, (she's not that great of an actress, ) that I stopped wanting to see the movie at all. :crazy2: :headache:

On the other hand, I hadn't heard anything about "Bohemian Rhapsody," till I saw a promo for it during the Emmys party. It sounded interesting, but I promptly forgot about it, till it won Best Picture and Rami won Best Actor at the Golden Globes. Then I was really curious to see it.

Unlike "A Star Is Born," "Bohemian Rhapsody," got mixed, often critical reviews. The movie had been in the making for 10 years. And when Sasha Baron Cohen was in talks, being considered for it, he very unprofessionally blasted the premise of the film, which also then set in people's minds reasons to not like the film. And people who hadn't even seen the film bashed it for not being what they wanted a biopic of Freddie & Queen to be about. And it got only 60% on Rotten Tomatoes when it was first released.

Ironically, the movie kind of mirrors what happened to the song, "Bohemian Rhapsody," which also was critically panned by many sources. :p The clip below, at the 0:55 mark starts all the bad reviews it received.

Movie reviews:

Queen-Headlines-Black.jpg

But, just like the song, the movie grabs the heart & souls of the fans - and makes new fans. It did for me. I really had no idea that I'd love this movie so much. I've become reconciled to the fact that different Queen songs are stuck in my head endlessly every day! :music: (Today the song is the last half of Bohemian Rhapsody. The head banging section, which is the concert footage in the clip above. :rolleyes1 ) Different people on YouTube are making a lot of money off of me as I pay to watch different Queen music videos every day, depending which song is stuck in my head.I like to change up the videos.

By the third time I went to see the movie, I realized the movie is really inspiring for me. And I was really rooting for Freddie to get his **** together so they could all perform at Live Aid. :yay: Which arguably, is one of the best rock performances of all time.

And of course the footage they filmed of the recreation of Live Aid is absolutely spectacular. :jumping1: If people still haven't seen it and it's still playing at a theatre near you, GO! You will not regret seeing it on the big screen. I've seen it a few more times since, and plan one more before it leaves the theatres here. :music:
