The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Well, last night was rough - I ran a really high fever all night :confused3 I was so cold that my teeth were chattering, which woke DH up so he found me socks and more clothes to put on. I didn't sleep much. It broke sometime early this morning so I'm at home, resting, and I plan to go into work late this afternoon. I really want to be there tonight for a few things. We'll see!

We'll probably have leftover tacos.

 Feel better.

Well it is crazy here with the rain and flooding. So far we have had about 4 inches with more to come. It is supposed to rain the rest of the week into the weekend.

The lake behind my office overflowed the banks. Usually it sits about 2 feet below a boardwalk and dock. It is now up over that and the two benches that sit on the boardwalk part. :scared1: Luckily our building is way above that so no worries that it will flood into the bottom which is where there are two restaurants. On the opposite side there is a small river which also flooded out onto one side of a major road which was shut down.

Dinner tonight will be something with shrimp.

Robin – Wow, your baby is in middle school, where has the time gone?

Ellen - I’m super excited for y’all, congrats on a baby boy! I hope the pregnancy remains uneventful.

Glynis – I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick, glad to have you back. You have a wonderful hubby my friend. I agree with you, when I don’t check in here I feel like I’m missing my gals.:grouphug:

Sheryl – I’m happy little Jude is feeling better.

Becky – Can’t wait to see your pics, glad to hear y’all had a good time!

Marilyn – Stay safe in that nasty weather.

Aimee – I hope you’re feeling better, take care of yourself.

WFD - Grilled chipotle & lime pork chops, salsa rice and a salad.

Just a quick fly by as I am off the lay in bed after laying around on the couch.
The sore throat is not allergies like I was hoping but some pesky virus.

Good thing I went on a cooking marathon. We just had leftovers.

Ellen I am excited that you are having another boy.

Quick fly-by for me too.

Chili for dinner. Tomorrow is leftovers.

 to all.

I didn't get to completely catch up. We had a busy day today because it is my little girl's 10th birthday! I can't believe it. Anyway, I started my day early so I could make her bacon and a baked apple pancake for breakfast. She loved it. Then it was off to school for the kids and off to work for me. I picked them up after school and then took Caili out for Chinese food. We never get to eat it because of Liam's shrimp allergy, but he stayed at my parents' house because after dinner it was yet another night of ballet!

Ellen -- Congratulations on the baby news!

Glynis -- I hope Timothy is feeling better.

Aimee -- I hope you are feeling better as well.

Marilyn -- Stay safe!

Robin -- I can't believe your daughter is in middle school! I wish her lots of luck, lots of friends, and lots of inner strength. It is a tough age, but from everything you have said of her here, she is intelligent and confident in who she is, so those traits certainly help!

That's all I have read for today. I hope the rest of you are well, and I may get a chance to pop back in tomorrow after skating.

I am so not kept up for the last 2 or 3 days; so I'm sure I've missed lots.

Just scanning the news on this page...

Laura - Happy birthday to the double digit age! hope the day is fun.

Janice - Get better.

Ellen - I'm seeing that it's a BOY! Congrats.

Marilyn - It never rains, it pours! Sure seems to be true right around the world lately.

Becky - That's a nice picture of the berry gratin (and nice recipe). Did you take it with your new lens? I'm shooting in manual now. For my food, I'm setting to ISO 800 or 1600, depending on the lighting conditions (usually take them at night), f/4 or 4.5; 1/40 sec minimum. I've tried taking food shots down to the aperture size of f/3.5 (which is as low as I'll go for food now) and even at f/2.8. The depth of field is too narrow at this range for my liking (it is personal preference); but you might like your shots like that.

I'm heading out for dinner tonight.

Laura – A belated Happy Birthday to Caili!:bday: I can’t believe she’s 10!

Who Dat!! It's game day!:cheer2:

WFD - Taco flatbreads

Quickie post now, and then I'll be back later to chat!

Happy belated birthday to Caili!!! 10 is a huge deal!

Marilyn - try to stay safe and dry. This weather sure has a mind of its own!

Princess - Good to see you! Hope you're doing ok.

Gotta run start breakfast. It's pancakes this morning. PW's lemon blueberry pancakes. Sounded good to me!

Just home. In a food coma and yes...I have food porn to share. I also have a side dish of snow peas, tomato in a sweet chilli/soya dressing to share as well. I'm hoping to post these by the weekend.

DS is going to Silicon Valley from Saturday and will be back the following Sunday. I'll be doing the single parenting thing during this period. I suspect I may not have time to pop in regularly for the next 10 days or so....but I'll try to stop by when I can.

Hope you are all well and dry!

Winter has returned here. Minimum temperature tonight is going to be 39 F and it is C-O-L-D for me. We're going to be mid 40's tomorrow as a daytime high.

In the meantime, bedtime for me. :cloud9:

I didn't get to completely catch up. We had a busy day today because it is my little girl's 10th birthday!

Happy birthday to her!

Some of the water has receded but we are due for more rain today. The one road was opened back up but the water is only about a yard away from the shoulder of the road. :scared:

I'm thinking about cheese and bread for dinner.

Well middle school is a success! She loves it, I can't even feel sad her being in middle school already because she is so excited. Speaking of a success, I just got back from a job interview that went really well, they'll let me know next week if I get a second interview. Cross your fingers!

Laura- Happy Birthday to Caili! Is she in fifth grade this year, I know here the cut off is Sept 1. Thanks for saying such sweet things about my little girl, I think middle school will be tough, but I know she'll do awsome.

Glynis- Did you see the recipe for goldfish crackers on Pioner woman's site? It looked like something your family would enjoy doing.

Ellen- CONGRAGTULATIONS!!! Ethan, and the rest of you, must be thrilled.

Okay, I have a bit of work to do. Kielbasa, pierogies, and salad for dinner. Have a great day all!

Marilyn, I hope the water stays away from your door! I am hearing from friends that live in PA that the flooding is bad there also.

Princess, thanks for the camera information. As I said I am still learning and right now really prefer my kit lens. I may change my mind with more practice.

WFD: something with more of the glut of tomatoes I have in the house right now.

We are good. I don't live near any body of water that could flood the house although we were a little worried about the next door neighbors.

Their sliding door sits almost even with their patio and the patio is lower then the surrounding ground where mine is actually several inches above the patio and the ground slopes away from the patio. During the thaw from a big snow storm about 9 years ago the runoff went in their back door, flooded their basement, then seeped into my basement and flooded our basement as well. :headache:

Awesome on both accounts!

happy birthday, Caili! Double digits!

Well... it appears I have pneumonia. Waiting on XRay result but he's treating it as such. This morning, I couldn't walk across the room without stopping to rest bc my breathing was so shallow. I called my asthma doc and they got me in first thing. I was there 2 hrs, got the works, and while my breathing is still not anywhere near what it should be, I'm better. My fever is on and off so I go between sweating and freezing

I canceled my retreat for the weekend which made me sad but I'm in no shape to lead anything. DH is picking up all my meds on his way home. He's also picking up dinner - wings and fries.

I slept all afternoon and hope to be doing more of that this weekend.

Haven't read back but wanted to ask for prayers and good thoughts for Goofyluver & Uncle R, they had to evacuate, the wildfires were just minutes away from their home.:sad1:

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes for Caili! It was a very small celebration yesterday, since the kids had school, I had work, everyone else had work and Caili had ballet. The real party is Saturday. Dinner tonight was leftover Chinese food for Caili, a burrito for Liam and some of the leftover Chinese food, some fried rice and green beans for me.

PW's lemon blueberry pancakes. Sounded good to me!

I watched last week's episode about her little boy's birthday. That is why I got up early and made Caili a baked pancake yesterday. I felt guilty.

I just got back from a job interview that went really well

Yay! I wish you lots of luck! Caili is in fourth grade this year. The cut-off is Sept. 1 here as well, so she misses it by six days. It's okay though. Everyone is shocked to hear she is ten. Most people think she is seven or eight.

My Daddy started me off at age 11 with season tickets to the Saints games and I've been a football fanatic ever since. We are a rare breed!;)

I think it all starts with our dads. My dad took me to football games starting when I was five. They were high school games, but in between me watching the cheerleaders' routines, he taught me everything that was going on in the game. I don't know all the stats on all the players (I find that really boring, to be honest) but I know all the rules, and I can often predict the calls before they are announced. It was one of the traits my sometime-to-be ex-husband found endearing.

MUST. HAVE. SOON!! Put it in the rotation!

Well... it appears I have pneumonia.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. I hope you feel better soon!

Prayers said. I hope their home is okay.
