A few of my thoughts after seeing the episode...
I've never been a big Toby fan, but I'm not fond of the way that Kate is treating him. I agree that his "grand gestures" seem to be more about him than Kate even if he doesn't see it that way, but she could be more kind in the way that she approaches the topics if she really does love him. I don't know that she does.
I greatly dislike Duke. I hope the "self-sabotage" dialogue wasn't foreshadowing anything...
Randall's work situation makes me uncomfortable. I don't want to see him fail, but it seems like he's setting himself up to do so. I went back and forth over Beth's decision to "call marriage." He is obviously trying to stick his head in the sand about how close William is to dying. Avoidance is a coping mechanism that I'm all too familiar with, and I think that Beth needs to force him to face the situation instead of letting him "hide" in his job. But, at the same time, sometimes taking care of work responsibilities is "putting family first" even if it seems the opposite. But, then again, Randall was the one who wasn't taking the opportunity to step back from some of the responsibilities when given the chance. But is he right that he needs to be there fighting for his job or is it just that he thinks he needs to be superhuman/perfect and do it all? See, back and forth and back and forth. He is obviously a devoted, attentive father and husband. It's all taking a huge toll on him. It also seemed that he hasn't fully faced Jack's death yet, and I think that the loss of William is going to also make him face that loss as well.
I was glad that Sophie asked about Kate and seemed genuinely interested. Since they've been divorced for 12 years and she was teasing about Miguel, Miguel must have joined the family more than 12 years ago. I like Sophie.
I have never really disliked Miguel, though I think he is a little too smarmy at times. Now we know about Shelly, but I am wondering why there has been no mention of his kids in the present. I'm glad that the made it clear that he didn't cheat on his wife and was thinking of the best for his kids back then. I still think that the reason the Big Three don't seem thrilled with Miguel is that no one can replace Jack and not that Miguel has done anything wrong or questionable. I think that none of them have really come to terms with that loss.
I hope that Randall's health issues aren't too serious and just serve as another wake-up call.
