Transport options to and from MCO

For 4 adults each with 1 suitcase (SWA), arriving around 1:30 am Sat in early Sept. - is it cheaper to take an Uber XL, assuming that will fit everything, to and from MCO or is one of the newer bus options cheaper or superior (since you might be able to reserve ahead of time). Think the free up to 2 bags is going to have us carrying a lot of baggage. We have not stayed on property since late 2021, not familiar with the post ME options.

Coming in at that hour, I would recommend car service over any other option. The driver will be waiting for you at baggage claim and will escort you right out to the waiting car, and then drive you directly to your resort.

Whatever you do, DON'T use shuttlefinder or mozio. Their phone to call if you have a question is an international number answered by a person whose English is limited. And each person passes you on to another number.

When you say car service, do you mean reserving a town car or luxury car transport?

Yes, exactly. You’ll need at least an SUV for 4 adults.
ok thanks, and I'm assuming that's cheaper (and faster) because you can share that 1 SUV vs. whatever the new bus fares are? I think we only 1 time ever used Uber from MCO but when it was just 2 of us, same 1:30am ish timeframe. Never tried for an XL or another bus other than ME.

It won’t be cheaper than the buses. Sunshine Flyer, however, does not operate overnight. Mears Connect does, but you might wait a while and make several stops.

You can check out the pricing on Uber and Lyft. If you happen to be up around the time you would be at the airport, you could do a trial run to get an estimate.

We used Uber XL with 2 adults and 2 kids. One had a portable booster seat. We did only have 1 big suitcase, umbrella stroller, and 2 backpacks. I'm not sure how your 4 pieces would compare in size.

It ended up being a regular SUV and my husband rode up front. I sat in between the kids. I think 4 adults would be tight in that configuration.

Thanks. That's a good thought on trying to test a price without executing it from here at 1:30am. I think without us knowing, my wife was afraid that an Uber XL can mean a compact SUV like a CRV/Tucson/Enclave/Edge type rather than the full SUV you got.

The cars were not that big, IMO. I would say mid-size SUVs.

Any XL must have a third row, thus a CR-V is an X, not an XL, as is an edge. In the Orlando area, there are a lot of minivans. That said, I don’t know how availability is at that hour.

If they're complying with the Xl requirement for 3rd row, that seems like it would work. Me in front, the 3 others in back, with hopefully 2 bags in the 3rd row, 2 in the very back. And no one having carry one in lap (which I've done). But as you've said, who knows what's available that late. We tend to get greedy with our park time on flight days and looking to book a late Fri night one that arrives 1:30, which means after monorail, bag retrieval, bathroom, it's probably at least 2 am.

That one bus option you mentioned, Mears Connect, even if it has stops, as long as it gets us there in about an hour (where ME was direct, and used to take up to 45 but typically a little less)... we're just napping anyhow. Since we typically might not get a room until 6am. We've also napped from arrival until closer to like 4 at MCO bench, to try to make it more reasonable to request that room early at WDW.

We are also arriving at MCO close to midnight, we were initially going to fly into Tampa, but the prices went down at MCO, so we changed our flights. I was also looking into the MARS buses and uber/ lift, but found the information to rent a car using undercover tourist and decided to rent, the prices are amazing.

It worked out for us, as we need a car for Mass on Sundays and we were going to Uber, plus we always have lunch at the Celebration Tavern restaurant , not to mention going grocery shopping if needed.

If you don't mind driving, renting a car is another option. Even if it's for only one day, you can drop it off at the Car care center by MK, they will drive you back to your resort or MK.

Thanks we will consider renting as an option too. We typically try to avoid renting a car for the extra time involved for pick up/drop off, gas - and only rent a car if staying offsite given parking fees by Disney and to use their buses. We did rent from Alamo from SFB earlier this month for an offsite stay, but we basically had to given the Allegiant SFB flight, no bus transport from motel. Rentals at SFB were really inflated from past prices given current environment. I think our rental was about $515 after taxes/fees onsite ($85) for a week, and we usually shoot for about $300. I think I've seen much lower rates at MCO, a bigger airport.

Yet another option if scarcity of Uber XL's at that time period, could be to take 2 ubers. Our last uber from MCO was like $40. Idk what the bus fares are, but $40 per couple isn't terrible, and obviously quicker. I just know my in-laws aren't going to like the thought of us splitting up. They wanted to connect flights even though we're in IL and they're in MI.

Mears Connect is basically DME. Mears ran DME. It’s the same buses and drivers without the Disney wraps and videos. It was never guaranteed to be direct; sometimes you might stop at another resort or two before getting to yours.
Most people in your situation would actually also have a room booked for the night they are arriving, so as to eliminate the possibility of a room not being ready first thing in the morning.

I just went back and checked for you - I had the following cars: Infiniti QX60, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota Highlander. I guess they were bigger than I thought, but I don't think the 3 rows were set up for all of the rides.

Thanks. Yes, we're more frugal/crazier than most to not be booking a room that day. I think our timeframe (Sept), typically All Stars/Pop, we've only not been able to get our room early twice (last time Dec. 2019 at Sports). But even then, I stalked people leaving with bags and requested their room, never not gotten it by 6am. The goal is basically to be able to RD that day. Rather than most early flights for our local airports arriving around 10am, and expecting something like an early afternoon park entry. The other thing is we don't really sleep well the night before anyhow (excitement). So getting a room just to leave at like 6 am to make RD isn't what I like to do.

Yes, Costco was close to $500.00 for 6 days, up $100.00 from the reservation if landing at Tampa.

We reserved the same days using undercover tourist for $260.00. We were going to pay $120.00 for MARS for the 4 of us, plus Ubers/lift.

We stay on points so we don't pay for parking at the resorts, but I understand your point.

The RT for MARS is , I think around $30.00 per person. Not bad if you only need to get to and from the airport.

The problem for us now is that ,just recently they opened 2 of our favorite restaurants from Chicago close to the DW, now that we live in TX, we have to go to those restaurants when we visit FL, lol

that's big savings from $500 to $260. Mears is about $120 for 4 people each way or $60 ea. way, $120 round? I've never looked into a Sams/Costco reservation either. For the rental option, we'd probably compare just the flight days for this trip. But I'll be sure to look at UT in the future. Other than the reasons I gave... we sometimes prefer the convenience of Disney transportation over driving ourselves each day. Even though we know our way, having lived in Tampa.

Last week, it was nice not relying on Disney buses in a way, the predictability of when you're going to arrive. But the tradeoff was that they kept placing us in just about the furthest lot possible every time with the exception of AK, we were getting Unicorn. MK has the tram running, but EP and HS don't. We kept getting stuck in traffic on I-4 late at night. I just didn't expect 11pm traffic. But many people leave the parks at the same time near close.
