What is the distance:

From LAX to DL?
From DL to UCLA?
From UCLA to LAX??

From Lax to UCLA it is about 15-30 mins down the 405 depending on traffic/time of day. Same UCLA to LAX.

DL to UCLA I would say 45-120 mins, again depending on traffic. And it is very rare to get that CLEAR sailing all the way unless it is in the middle of the night.

That's so true - it seems like the 405 is always packed nowadays so be prepared to have your trip take a little longer!

Are you going to UCLA for school?

Ah, my friend the trick is to take side streets and freeways less travelled!

From LAX to DL? About 1 hour
From DL to UCLA? 1.5 hours
From UCLA to LAX?? 35 minutes

* Remember this is NOT during rush hour!

Here is my secret to get from UCLA to LAX:

• Head west on Wilshire Blvd.
• Turn right on Lincoln Blvd.
• Take Lincoln Blvd. all the way into LAX!

DL to UCLA:

• Go north on the Santa Ana Frwy. I-5.
• Go west on the I-91 freeway.
• Go north on the I-605.
• Head west on the I-105 freeway
• Go north on I-405

If you hit a traffic jam, get off the freeway and take Sepulveda Blvd. all the way up into UCLA.

LAX to DL:

• Take the I-105 freeway and head EAST.
• Go south on the I-710 (Long Beach Frwy).
• Go EAST on the Artesia Frwy. Listen to the radio for any traffic jams on the I-5 south bound.

If you are aware of a traffic jam, get off at any exit after Carmenita. Head south until you hit BALL RD. Take Ball (EAST) to Disney Way and turn right. The DL parking lot is on your right.

I think its better to just steer clear of traffic (don't drive 6AM-8:45AM or 3:30PM-6PM). Also, if there are 3 in your car then use the car pool lanes to bypass when you want to travel in traffic. AND DO NOT cross the solid double yellow lines to enter or exit the car pool lane. It may be dangerous and draw a very expensive traffic citation if you're caught by the Highway patrol.

Aside from that - I suspect surface street bypass routes only work IF traffic is mostly STOPPED. As long as you are moving - and if you're IN traffic hours then it is generally tough all over with a few exceptions. IE - I used to use sepulveda to bypass the 405 from Santa Monica to the south bay - but this only worked at the PEAK of traffic. Well... actually, the 405 is pretty much a nightmare even on the weekends too. \

Well.... another idea that might help is to check these sites

Now take a look at these pix - they're actually not so bad as the cars look like they're moving.

in response to the double yellow lines for the carpool..
We asked a trooper this question..
If you are in the carpool lane and there is a solid white line on your side and then 2 double yellow lines, you may cross out of the car pool lane. But not enter it.

That would be a LEFT on Lincoln.
