Universal now requiring documentation be sent to a third party for accessibility

Thanks for the tip on social media. I've called twice and been told "we should be hearing from someone shortly."

But I'm not a last minute planner and needed to make resort reservations so switched plans to Disney. Disappointing.
I understand about being a planner. My wife and I are the same way. Try to reach out on Twitter. For example, I was having a problem with getting a reservation for the Mardi Gras float and someone from Guest Relations was able to hook my family up with a spot on one of the floats. All of the communication was via Twitter.

I got my son's card the second day after this was announced. Waited over a week with no word from Universal, finally emailed them, got a reply asking for our trip dates and a good time to call which I answered. It's been almost a week since and nothing. Our trip is in 15 days.
Send a message to Universal Orlando on Twitter. The social media team actually responds to guests and will put you in touch with a guest relations representative who will actually help you rather than string you along.

I can probably understand "too old" depending on how old it is. But PCP vs specialist is picky :(
Yeah.
I can understand »too old », but they said they didn’t find anything that told them acceptable dates

Thanks for the tip, but I asked what I need to do is no one calls before our trip. I got an email back stating that I just needed to take our card to guest services. I saved the email in case anyone tries to argue the point.

One person posted their application was rejected because their general practitioner had written a letter and it needed to be from their specialist
Takes a serious lack of brains to demand a note from a Specialist instead of a GP while they are accepting 1 page of an IEP written by Joe Smith.

I saw my GP. I don't have a specialist at this point. If they write back demanding a note from a specialist, I'm sunk. My app is in process so I'll update when I hear back.

It seems pretty inconsistent. I‘ve seen other posts where people posted they got approved with just a letter from the doctor that only says, « this person has a disability » but nothing about the disability

That sounds like a good plan. Good luck!

So if the lack of accomodations was a Universal issue even with a card from the 3rd party confirming an alternate queue experience is appropriate they could still say No. So I am starting to agree with others what is the point? It won't lessen time at the window and won't prevent people who need an accommodation from being denied. The only positive is prevent potential fraud since it requires a Dr to sign woth their practice code.
The third party isn’t confirming that an alternate queue experience is appropriate; the third party is only confirming that you have a documented disability.

Thanks. When reading up on it, it sounded like it would list what accommodations you would request and thus give some weight to that even if they can't guarantee. So they are basically using a third party (that seemed to be autism/cognitive disorders based prior and has branched out) to verify disabilities but then still get to decide if you aren't disabled enough according to the TM at the time.

Yep. Someone (I truly forgot who) recommended we go to our PCP for a letter since we see multiple specialists for multiple disabilities. I was already hesitant for reasons I discussed in thread but I guess that's out entirely. And all of our specialists are way more expensive to see than our PCP....

Yeah.

And this is frustrating too- is the document with the diagnosis report too old? The diagnosis is far, FAR from new. It doesn't just up and go away, it's permanent. But now I need to get a new diagnosis form?

I need to vent my fustrations. :headache:

Just received our call for my son for his pass (autistic). I submitted his IEP for his Autism that was accepted. I selected (Standing/Queuing: individual is not able to stand for a significant amount of time) since he has a hard time standing in lines for a long time without having issues and they had no option for crowds and having to leave line like they have added now. Also the App and website had different options you could choose on some items. For example while I was trying to load his IEP photo and having issues. I noticed the app had an option to add educator as part of your documents but the website did not of course the website loaded his photo. During the call we told the lady on the phone that DS has Autism and has difficulty standing in lines for a long amount of time without having his issues and described his problems. She noted we choose standing/queuing and they take it literally as a mobility issue only. They offered a one time pass but said we would have to resubmit with undated information. I looked and changed the options on the site for him as they let you update it easily but I don’t see a way to know how to get Universal that updated information. I printed out the IBCCES card that lists his updated requirements that I can bring to Universal but don’t know if they can officially approve anything at their guest services desk. Anyone else have to resubmit to Universal? How do we do it? This process is so aggravating. I can’t see why talking on the phone with her and explaining his needs couldn’t get things taken care of right then and there. They see I completed and he was approved by IBCCES and then explained his needs to her over the phone.

I also applied myself before DS and got approved for my IBCCES for my bathroom issue which “bathroom option” was officially added after I applied. Universal called me and told me that my only option was to leave the line to use the bathroom and join back with my family. I explained the confrontations I have had with other guests walking back in line previously and they said they are “working with the Team Members at the attractions on this”. I don’t see what they can do to stop someone from yelling at me and threaten me as I walk past them and try to explain that I am just joining back with my family without having to tell everyone in line I have a bathroom issue please let me pass. I didn’t even get to ask about what happens if I happen to travel by myself I was so upset that they didn’t want to discuss it further that my only option was leave and come back.

We become passholders in April for the first time since DS enjoyed his visit with the disability pass we had and this maybe the last time too if this doesn’t sort itself out.

Wow so this makes it worse because if you don't pick the right accomodations because of an IT issue or a misunderstanding then according to Uni you are SOL even if you update your stuff with IBCCES. I've thought about applying for fiance but we don't have a trip booked so didn't want to delay people who are actually going soon.

Have you tried contacting Universal to move the process along? If a phone call or email doesn't work, you might want to contact them via twitter. They are surprisingly responsive to guests on social media, unlike Disney who pretends that guests' social media comments don't really exist.
I have not. My daughter (a teen who applied by herself since she has been getting the disability pass for awhile) said that she did get an email asking for her to submit her IEP and she responded that she already did. I explained to her that when she initially uploaded it, it only uploaded 1 page. She didn't realize that. I'm not sure what it happening with her status now. Neither of us have twitter but I will call if she doesn't hear back soon.

We arrive next week and just found out about this by chance today when calling universal. Jumped on this site to make sure people were aware and was pleased to see there was already a thread!

Having previously been told by universal that we just need to speak to guest services when we arrive, we are now stressing that this all wont be sorted in time. Hopefully all ok.

We used the DAS service at Disney and wouldn’t have been able to do it without. Feels like weve now taken quite a risk adding a lot of expense to our holiday for a universal trip and it might not work for our son.

we are going to take copies of all our documentation with us, the lady on the phone at universal said they had plan b’s on site.

We plan our holidays months and months in advance, I’m sure we aren’t the only ones and it’s likely this has gone under the radar for many. Universal must realise that there are going to be some teething problems with this last minute implementation,

Geez I’m glad I cast my net wide and picked a second issue to go along with that one. Ridiculous.

Here is my experience with the new process:

I applied to IBCCES on July 16th and was accepted by them on July 24th. I submitted the last page of a psychological evaluation report that listed my diagnosis (autism and a couple others). This page did not have a date, but it did have the signatures of the psychologist and their assistant. It also listed some recommendations for accommodations, but nothing specific to theme parks.

I received my email from Universal on July 24th and told them I had a trip planned for July 29th. They called me on July 27th (one of the preferred contact days I gave them) and they basically just confirmed the accommodations I selected on the IBCCES card (I selected all the sensory ones) and then gave me my case number to use at the parks to get the AAP.

Based on everything I’ve been reading about other peoples experiences and the fact that they added the bathroom accommodation option, it sounds like Universal thought guest services was spending too much time having the same conversations and arguments with guests who have bathroom or mobility issues. While I think bathroom issues ABSOLUTELY warrant an AAP, I bet if they are seeing abuse of the system, that’s probably the number one reason abusers give.

This just streamlines the process and they can just say no and move on, rather than spend time listening to someone plead their case when guest services has already made up their mind. I think they also want to make issuing an AAP more consistent across guest service employees, however that seems to be failing miserably at the moment. I’m sure if this is true though, it’s one reason among many that they decided to make this change.
