I found the explanation of the asterisks on the Disneyland website:

Can't wait to go!! It's a family favorite but none of my friends will go because they don't want to spend that much, LOL.

I LOVE the Basque cheesecake. I'd never heard of/tried it until last year and it was soooo good.

I really want to eat here but I just don't think there is anything on the menu that would appeal to my autistic adult daughter. Can someone tell me what the Monte Cristo consists of as this might be something she could eat. Thanks

Holy crap, $31 (American) for a sandwich? Lol, I never did like the Monte Cristo at Disney, so maybe it is just that I don't care for it, but that seems nutty to me. That's over $42 in my currency (Canadian).

I just wish they had a meal for Gumbo, no idea why it's only the side dish. It's a NOS themed restaurant

It’s a battered and fried turkey, ham, and Swiss sandwich dusted with powdered sugar.

It's essentially a double-portion sandwich - not that that necessarily justifies the $31.

The Cafe Orleans version is essentially a single-portion - but with the pomme frites, it's still a pretty hearty meal. (I honestly can't see myself getting the MC at BB again - it's just too much food for lunch at a theme park. I'd rather save room for other goodies.)

But it reminds me of what it's like at the restaurant at the top of CN Tower - it's expensive; you're really paying for the scenery/experience.

It works well for me because I split it and still can't eat it all. Ours came with a salad and I believe there was something else but I'm not positive. That was last Jan so I don't know if they've changed it up.

We felt it was worth the cost. As brightlined said, you're not just paying for the meal, you're paying for the experience. We had a wonderful time, waterside, finished with the Basque cheesecake since it was my birthday, and took what we didn't eat of the MC back to the room. Oh yes, we also enjoyed a Hurricane. Cheap lunch? No, but it was wonderful (and certainly cheaper when you share!).

My god, they are crazy. We usually don't eat fancy at Disney but since this is our probably one and only trip out to Disneyland I thought we might. Sure I can afford it but it just turns me off that they charge these crazy prices. Like we didn't spend anything to get in.... lol

It is a lot of money, but be aware that the meal comes with sides and it's a generous amount of food. A $31 lunch at a restaurant like Blue Bayou doesn't seem out of line to me since it's a resort, exceptionally themed, and not something you're going to find outside of Disneyland. You're in an actual ride and you can see the pirate boats drift by. It feels like you're outside on a bayou patio in the evening. The filet and prime rib are pricey, I admit, but the steak restaurants where I live charge $40+ for filet mignon and you don't get to be inside the Pirate ride :D

Now, there was a time when it WASN'T worth it due to the poor food quality. They went through a spell where the food was hit or miss, and the miss was REALLY a miss, but there've been very positive remarks about it in the last couple of years and that has been my experience the last 4 times I've been.

I used to think BB was expensive, but compared to prices in my city in the last couple of years it's now average.... can't wait to go back in January for my birthday again!
Me too! I love going for my birthday in January!

One of ours is a very picky eater and just lives off of chicken strips on Disneyland trips. When we eat at blue Bayou we bring in an order of chicken strips from Golden horseshoe that we mobile order right before our reservation time. Never had a problem with bringing in food, and everyone is happy. I’m sure if you explain your situation they would be fine with something similar if everyone else is ordering off the menu.

I was there in August and seriously disappointed my monte cristo came with potato chips 😕 The remoulade helped but missed the pomme frites so much!
