US Soccer Women’s National Team Lawsuit Tossed

In March 2019, 28 members of the 2015 women’s team sued the federation over gender discrimination. In the complaint, the players accused their governing body of shortchanging them in pay and working conditions when compared to the men’s national team, which has not played nearly as well, didn’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup, and has not attracted anywhere close to the record ratings and audiences as their women counterparts.

What about the revenue the men's team brings in vs the women's?
How much does that differ?

U.S. Soccer Federation is a JOKE! just pay the women and the men EQUAL amounts.
The men's team has a contract that ties their pay to revenue of the federation. The women's team declined to sign the same contract, and after winning the world cup, decided that they should then complain that their bonuses (which were spelled out in their contract) were less than the men's bonuses for just playing in their world cup, because the men's bonuses were based on revenue and women's weren't.

This isn't a case of women being paid less, it's a case of women signing a guaranteed salary contract, and then being angry when the men signed a contract without a guaranteed salary and ended up with more.

This absolutely should have been tossed out.

Certainly it was almost a no brainer that the contract terms were going to be brought up. They took the sure money rather than have it heavily weighted towards performance pay.

However, part of the lawsuit is continuing - about transportation/lodging, training, and medical care. That part of the lawsuit is still pending. There really is no excuse to provide a lesser standard. That stands a far better case for an equal protection argument.

FIFA doles out a lot more money to the Men’s WC participants than to the Women’s.

Practically speaking the Men’s team participants have lots of money making options with salaries outside the USNT framework than the Women’s team participants. For a lot of the men’s team participants they make less money from the National Team than from their other playing. Other than USSoccer income the women have no playing options that pay them a salary.

They get some salaries from NWSL. However, the stars wouldn't be playing there if they didn't have their USWNT salaries. There are better paying leagues overseas. But the USWNT are paying them both the team salaries and additional to playing in the US.

The players who aren't stars basically make it a part time job and need to do something else.
