US/WDW Sep/Oct 2016...All Finished

Glad you had a nice day at Seaworld

I did enjoy it and glad I tried it--I love seeing the animals and I found the setups very nice.

I shsnt comment I am mentally changed by blackfish.
Totally understand--we all have our own thoughts on things and that's cool. Personally, I have no desire to watch this--the intent seemed strictly to vilify. I would feel hypocritical shaming SeaWorld when there is so much of animal parks, zoos, etc. that I enjoy and who I feel respect and support the animals in their care (and I have seen horrible places that have made me feel sick inside).

Sorry that dinner was so awful.
It got so ridiculous that it just became laughable--probably because we were exhausted too. But the food that we did sample was delicious so maybe next time we'll make sure to get a table on the main floor, NOT the reject balcony.

Fell a little behind. We are very excited to be checking out Universal for the first time in long time in February, so enjoying all your pictures. DD is big-time Harry Potter fan so I'm sure we'll be spending a considerable amount of time there. Hoping 3 days will be enough to see most everything. The details of Diagon Alley are very, very cool.

It's been about 10 years since we did Sea World in Florida, but we did Sea World in San Diego this past February, and they are very similar. Love them, but don't quite hold up to Disney.

Can you believe that they were showing Blackfish on the plane! I didn't know what it was saw Seaworld and thought lovely and was horrified by it. I wish I had never seen it. I agree don't watch it it is truly horrible.

That is a very odd choice--especially if the description was misleading and you didn't know what you were really getting into. I will take your advice and leave it alone.

Yes do not watch it! I loved Seaworld often choosing to go there on birthdays. My day at Discovery Cove one of the best of my life. Honestly the show gave me nightmares! I want to go again when I have got over the mental abuse endured from that show. People have lost their jobs.

The morning at Diagon Alley looked great. Again you saw so many details that I overlooked. Perhaps it was the fact that I got sick that morning.

I am with you on those motion simulator rides, they just make me sick as does the "arm" which so many of their rides rely upon.

No way, no how, no siree Bob would you EVER get me to go to HHN at Universal! :scared1: Yours is the second review I have heard of it. I didn't like Knotts Scary Farm, I wouldn't like that AT ALL!

Today was our last day in Universal and my last day with S&R—tomorrow they would head home and my parents would be arriving.
I couldn’t get the girls moving out of bed and I wanted to make use of our last early entry morning so I let S know that I was leaving and would meet them in Diagon Alley when they were ready.

Took a selfie with Jaws on my way. Springfield is visible across the lagoon.

Walked through the Dead Man’s Wharf scare zone—piece of cake in the daylight.

Once back in Diagon Alley, I took my time wandering, taking in the atmosphere—managed two flame shots of the dragon. The crooked architecture of Diagon Alley is such a signature of this area—it feels so cozy and haphazard, just like wizards would build it.

Needed something in my tummy so picked up some pumpkin juice and Cornish pasties at The Hopping Pot. Also picked up a hot butter beer (the best butter beer iteration in my opinion) and ate on a bench in the train station.

We then walked over to the little stage in the train station area to watch a show called The Three Brothers that is performed at different intervals throughout the day. The puppets are really cool looking and the performers tell a good story in only 15-20 minutes.

We were planning to finish the evening in Diagon Alley by riding the Hogwarts Express back from Hogsmeade so we could finish up our shopping. However, S & I decided to go ahead and buy the respective necklaces we’d been looking at in Borgin and Burke’s since they were small packages. I’m glad we did because as you will see, best laid plans are no match for Orlando weather when the rain storms come in.
Here is a shot of my necklace, the deathly hollows as worn by Luna Lovegood’s father.

Saying good bye to Diagon Alley, we retraced our steps back towards the front of the park. This feels like a picture rewind.

Scooby and the gang. We actually arrived here near the very end of Shaggy and Scooby’s set. The handler told us that after these guys went on break, the whole gang (minus Fred) would be coming out. On our way out, we also caught the Horror Make-up Show.

Now it was time for lunch and we were really excited to try out the new Toothsome Emporium. I expected waits but wasn’t quite prepared for the 3 hour duration of this experience and combined with the weather that was to come, completely altered our evening plans.

The first wait was just over an hour to be seated. The shop was filled with all sorts of interesting and tempting treats and then when we finally found a seat to wait in the ice cream shop area, we watched people buying one insane milkshake after another. S & R were definitely eyeing those for dessert. When we were finally seated, we were quick to order. Our server was very enthusiastic about the restaurant and very chatty. Our drinks came quick and we thought that the waiting was over. Ahhhh…not to be. The food took forever to come out and then another painful wait for the check—our chatty server couldn’t help getting into lengthy conservations with every table around us. With the time passing quickly by, our evening plans were slowly disintegrating.

The food though---outstanding. The bread was a chocolate bread (everything on the menu has some chocolate roots). I had the onion soup appetizer and apple crepes as my entrée/dessert. I love crepes and this was the best-- warm apple pie with caramel and whipped cream combo topped with apple chips. Bonus chocolate strawberries. I didn’t get a fancy shake but tried a sip of S’s key lime –it was okay, a bit sweet as opposed to tart, but I was glad I didn’t spend the $14 for one of my own. No way could I have finished it and my entrée was sweet already.

Now it was about 3:30-3:40 when we left. Universal Studios closed at 5:00 for HHN—our plan was to ride the Hogwarts Express into Diagon Alley (we hadn’t been that direction yet and the “show” is different) and do some final shopping. We hustled out of the restaurant and made it to Hogsmeade by 4:10. However the train was down and likely wouldn’t be up before the last train at 4:30. That ended those plans for us.

Regrouping, there were still a couple things to do in Island of Adventure. We loitered around Hogsmeade a bit more so R could cast some more spells and scope out the shopping options. Then we left for Jurassic Park –the one item remaining on my must-do list was the Raptor Encounter. I loved this—the setup was realistic and Izzy the velociraptor had a great personality. She was amazing to watch as she moved and reacted—hilarious watching the other guests freak out.

Sinbad had already run its last show. Moving on, we chatted with Micah the fountain a bit before entering Posiedon’s Fury. At this point it was starting to rain. The show was extremely cheesy and outdated—I got the giggles watching the final battle. Leaving the temple, the rain was still coming down but manageable.

So here is where my photos end…cue upcoming deluge. But I will finish out our final evening.

We went into Dr. Suess's landing but due to lightning, the outside rides like the trolley in the sky and one fish, two fish were closed. We rode the carousel and within two minutes of exiting the carousel, the clouds opened and released a fierce rain that would continue for several hours. Looking at our options while crowded into the Dr. Suess gift shop with hundreds of other wet guests, we made the decision to buy ridiculously priced ponchos so we could at least move towards the exit.

We headed back towards Hogsmeade to complete our shopping. Special wizarding treats for me including butter beer fudge—sigh, sadly I would never be able to sample it since in the chaos of the store, the fudge never actually made it into my shopping bag. An error by the checkout dude almost worthy of the unforgivable curse….

Back through Jurassic Park towards the exit we go. Puddles in spots were ankle high. Our shoes were soaked and we were still damp and sticky under the vinyl ponchos. I still wanted to stop at the big Universal Store by the entrance to look for the Weasley goodies I had intended to buy in Diagon Alley. They were there-yah; the single cash register in the back crawled at a snail’s pace—boo. When we finally stepped out of the park, we quickly realized the boats weren’t running because of the storm. So it’s all the way to the bus shuttle stop by the parking garage; after another 20 minutes we were finally on a bus and heading back to our resort.

It was about 9:00 pm now and we had to finish packing. S/R had a 7:30 flight and we were being picked up at 5.

I was tired and wasn’t done with my vacation. I changed into my pj’s and quickly finished my packing—thankfully I didn’t have much more to do. I ate a couple slices of pizza that S brought back to the room and set the alarm for 4 am.

Next, goodbye Universal and back to WDW…

Wow! Karilynn, you packed a lot in that night! Too bad the rain cut your night short, but... Florida. Yeah. :( Still enjoying your photo deluge a lot! Thanks for posting and sharing!

What a fun packed day! I love your photos of Harry Potter areas. Love the selfie with Jaws!

The three brothers show sounds good. Loving those necklaces. That was good they got them then.

Your food sounded nice but shame aboit service. I love Opius Prime! My favorite character! I would have been on cloud 9.

Love the details you captured on camera for us. Sorry about the weather spoiling your shopping fun. Darn!

Great update looking forward to WDW and your parents.

Really like the security setup here with the TSA-like bag scanners and walk through metal detectors

This is how they do this at Disneyland Paris, too. I like this much better than how they do it at Walt Disney World.

First up was Minion Mayhem—this would be the first of several attractions that I just can’t tolerate well.

I was surprised that I was OK with this.

Passing through the exit, we saw a minion—now characters I can do, especially since I was dressed as a minion today.

I would have loved to see a minion.

Do you have any idea who the character on the left is? This is the one we met.

On my way to watch the Frog Choir, I stopped in the Hogsmeade Public Conveniences to see if I could hear Moaning Myrtle—well she is hard to miss as she is quite the chatterbox.

When I went there, we had even bigger chatterboxes so I did not hear Moaning Myrtle. Graham did so.

Big fan of the Frog Choir…

I loved this, too.

Anyway we decided we would head back to Springfield and ride the Simpsons. Okay, let me just say this was the worst ride of all for my head. Never again.

This was the one ride I really struggled with.

The Halloween Horror Nights do not sound like my kind of thing at all. I would have freaked out.

We were the first pick-up and while that meant good seats, it also meant that we didn’t get to the park gates until almost 11.

That is a long time.

I had heard that the simulation part of the arctic ride was very jerky so I opted out while S and R went on. Instead I went in the non-motion line which included a movie—I pulled a post-maelstrom move and walked straight through the theater to get to the good stuff—belugas, seals, walruses.

You did the right thing there. Actually the worst bout of motion sickness I ever had in Florida was in the non-motion version of Wild Arctic.

It is nice that you can now see the seals. I assume they are where the polar bears used to be?

The show they were put in though leaves something to be desired—it was a poor man’s high school musical (literally, Clyde and Seymour are trying to graduate Sea Lion High).

I watched a previous version of the Clyde and Seymour show in 1998 and never had the urge to go back to see any of the subsequent shows.

Our entrees arrived shortly after guac guy—at this point, were were tired and had eaten the chips so fast, that the food has lost some of its appeal. We did what we could and the food itself was good but overall, the service was absolutely lousy.

That sounds a bit of a mess. I am glad that at least the food was good.

Also picked up a hot butter beer (the best butter beer iteration in my opinion)

Oh, I wish I had known about this when we were there.

Here is a shot of my necklace, the deathly hollows as worn by Luna Lovegood’s father.

I really like the necklace.

Hello Kitty!

I would have loved to meet Hello Kitty.

I expected waits but wasn’t quite prepared for the 3 hour duration of this experience and combined with the weather that was to come, completely altered our evening plans.

I really would have loved to try it, but I had read horror stories about the waits and Graham would not have been impressed so I gave up on that idea.

The bread was a chocolate bread (everything on the menu has some chocolate roots).

I did not know this either. Good job we did not go as Graham is allergic to chocolate.

We hustled out of the restaurant and made it to Hogsmeade by 4:10. However the train was down and likely wouldn’t be up before the last train at 4:30. That ended those plans for us.

What a shame that you did not get to do this.

he one item remaining on my must-do list was the Raptor Encounter. I loved this—the setup was realistic and Izzy the velociraptor had a great personality. She was amazing to watch as she moved and reacted—hilarious watching the other guests freak out.

That was the highlight for me. I so loved this.

Sunday Oct 2

Up bright and early and out the door just in time to meet our driver promptly at 5:00 am. The ride to the airport was easy and there we parted ways—S&R to their gate and me down the concourse to meet my parents. Found them easily and we were off to the Magical Express. There was only one other family for OKW so didn’t wait long to leave. We were at the resort by 6:45. Obviously no room yet so we stowed bags with bell service. Then, leaving dad napping in the lobby, mom and I headed out to the buses.

This was an Early Morning Magic day in Fantasyland—having done this on my July visit, I knew how it worked and decided to do it again. I didn’t mind the price for a very empty park and a decent breakfast—if I had a bigger family, then I probably wouldn’t find it worth the extra money. Mom didn’t have a ticket but she was going to activate her AP and meet me inside the park at 9:00.

I took my time walking down Main Street and through the castle.

Then flew over Neverland with Peter Pan and took a spin on the Carousel before getting breakfast at Pinocchio’s. From my experience, it’s a pretty decent quick service buffet—nothing extensive but good food.

I met mom right outside the restaurant –she had gotten in earlier than 9 so it worked out perfectly. Our first order of business was the new Muppet History show in Liberty Square.

Enroute, spotted a Pascal I hadn’t seen before…

How nice to stay at OKW. Lovely. Wonderful to get in the park so early. Love your cute bow!

Yeah the Mine Train and Carosuel. Aren't they super those horses. That was neat to see the muppets. Not seen that yet.

This was the Muppet’s public premier so all the web bloggers were there—said hello to Craig from the DIS.

I found the show funny—perfect Muppet vehicle. Apparently there are two shows—we saw the Signing of the Declaration of Independence; Ride of Paul Revere is the other one.

After the show we rode Haunted Mansion with minimal wait—there were still doing a lot of work around the exterior.

Next it was FP+ for Rapunzel and Tiana.

I have yet to meet a Tiana who wasn’t fabulous and this time was no exception.

We still had time before mom’s FP+ for Cinderella and Aurora so decided on a concert courtesy of Mickey’s Philharmagic. Then I slipped on mom’s magic band to see the princesses.
Cinderella was very warm.

This was going to wrap up our morning as mom’s head was feeling bad--little sleep in the last 24 hours. So we detoured through Starbucks for some sugar and made it outside with perfect timing to catch the boat back to Wilderness Lodge.

Dad had gotten the room info earlier so we could go straight to the room. We each had magic band troubles with the door but the front desk was quick to send someone up to personally collect and then deliver our fixed magic bands.

Due to the renovations underway, there was a thank-you gift in the room—a set of pins, laying here next to an American flag from the Muppet show.

My server was delightful and pulled of the skipper jokes with the perfect deadpan. The dipping sauce for the bread had tones of maple syrup and took a little getting used to. I don’t know if I liked it or not. I kept sampling it but it wasn’t like I was devouring it. I ordered a Brazillian soda—like apple juice and ginger ale—and the falafel appetizer for my meal. These were good; however I can always use more yummy sauce.

It started to drizzle as I was leaving—Halloween party goers were entering the park as I headed out to catch the boat. I received a text from mom that they were on a boat heading in the opposite direction to exchange dad’s voucher for a park ticket. We met back up in the room—mom and I went for a foot soak in the hot tub and were able to catch the geyser in action.

Dinner that night was at Artist Point—this meal turned out to be a hit for me and miss for my parents. My dad is still adjusting to a new way of eating (low salt, low fat) after his cardiac event last spring. I told him he could talk to the chef but he can be stubborn and wouldn’t do it (he would get over that later in the trip). He ordered some vegetables but they came fried so no go—the fried potatoes were delicious though. He did get a salad so he didn’t starve. My mom ordered some Brussel sprouts but they came burnt and she wasn’t impressed. On the plus side, I very much enjoyed my Portobello soup and butter poached halibut.

Wow - a very busy day from morning to night!

I LOL'd at your "very serious" Buzz Lightyear face. I always clown at Buzz. My 2-handed"terminator" pose:

The Muppets look fabulous! How fun.

Nice to get HM. That never grows old.

Lovely photos of you with the Princesses. Fun on Buzz!

Skippers looks great. Nice rooms. Shame aboit your Moms poor head. Sorry to hear about your Dads cardio issues. Disney are real good at changing items you are right. He will take a while to build confidence maybe.

Dinner for you sounded great though. Sorry I thought you were at OKW nice re WL. Love that resort.
