For anyone planning a trip to DC... don't forget to email your senator/representatives office, they may be able to do stuff for you.

If you are planning on touring the capitol building, tickets are handed out at starting at 9am, however (big however), people start lining up around 7:30 in the morning. Tickets are free and you all need to be present to get them. The tour is an hour. If you can't get tickets for the actual tour you can go to your representative's (or senator or both) and get gallery passes. This is kind of cool. You can in theory see everyone in action so to speak. To get tour tickets you have to go to this little shack right across from the botanical gardens.

You can also tour the supreme court. You can wait in line to see oral arguments or you can just go look around the first floor. (we just looked around the first floor, which was pretty cool). DO NOT EAT IN THE SNACK BAR under any circumstances... service is horrible and chances are high that you will not get the correct order (and you will get a lot of attitude about it... I ordered a grilled cheese and somehow got a hot dog.....)

If you are driving into DC to see the capitol and the supreme court park at Union station, it's much closer than where we parked (down by the mall) If you are taking metro, capital south is the stop you want to get off at for the capitol. Can't think of anything else, it was a far amount of walking. (while waiting for the capitol tour, I highly recommend the botanical gardens, awesome place! ) maggie
