What do you think when you hear someone say, "I would give xyz a key to my house before I'd give one to abc!"?

What does that say to you about xyz?

It seemed obvious to me, I was just curious what others thought. Ive been known to take things personally that were not intended that way.

That person trusts xyz more than they do abc.

That doesn't mean xyz is trustworthy or that abc isn't.

I should add that I would also have to hear context. "Trustworthy" is kind of a loaded word. It might not be that you think either would steal from you or burn down your house but maybe just show up at all hours or something like that.

He had a falling out with ABC and was saying he was going to change his locks (abc already had a key to take cate of the dog while he was away).

Its kind if like a backhanded compliment, right? "I used to think you were the most horrible, but now this person is more horrible than you."

I don’t know if it’s a compliment. I’ve said “I’d chew off my leg before I was trapped talking to them again”...it’s not really a compliment to chew off my own leg just the better of two evils.

Logically speaking, all that says is someone thinks abc is less trustworthy than xyz. It says nothing about how trustworthy someone believes they are logically speaking.

But going beyond the logic and into the language used, I would think that someone thinks abc is even less trustworthy than xyz, ie someone thinks they'e both not all that trustworthy. I'd like to see the mannerisms and inflections to know for sure. But lacking them, that's best guess.

Possible examples.

I'm thinking of giving abc the key to my house.
Oh Man. I'd give xyz a key before ABC.
HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!! yeah maybe I should find someone else.

Give it to xyz. They're trustworthy.
Ok thanks.

The latter is a clear endorsement of xyz. The former given the language is most likely (though not 100% sure of) a slam on abc rather than an endorsement of xyz

A back handed compliment is something like,
Well you're uncharacteristically generous today.
You're beautiful, but you should quit going after tens and settle for fours.
This picture of you is absolutely gorgeous. Those make over specialists really earned their money.
I love that you really don't care how you come across.
You're so charming when you make an effort.
I wish I could be so chill about all my underwear being on the floor.

Yeah, he was most definitely slamming abc, which really makes me wonder about xyz.

It depends on how it's said, but it could also be taken as we all think xyz is not very responsible/trustworthy, but I'd give it to them before ABC, to indicate HOW much they dont trust/like abc.

Women and Girls should not have to wear makeup! Nor should men.
