what was your favourite things to do on vacation growing up?

at camp, going in the lake with friends, swimming, paddle boats, canoeing, whatever we felt like

We didn’t go on a real vacation until I was an adult lol.
But we would go either to my aunts house who lived in Maryland and lived on the water and had a boat.
So it was a big deal to go on the boat into Annapolis.

And at one time, my Dad worked for a man who had a rv place on Lake Gaston and had some water craft. That was a big deal my dad would be in a working vacation but we were together.

playing on the beach and going out to dinner every night. We pretty much never went out to dinner until I was a preteen.

Vacations for my family when I was growing up usually involved traveling from our MD home to Illinois to visit grandparents and lots of aunt, uncles & cousins. It was a miserable 16+ drive and I definitely don't remember the trips as fun. I did enjoy seeing all my relatives and the cousins always had a good time.

There were a few trips with another family to Wildwood, New Jersey and we rented a house near the beach. I sort of remember those as being fun with cookouts and playing in the ocean.

When dh & I got married, we committed to vacationing at least once per year. My 3 boys still talk about their favorite and least favorite vacations.

I didn't have a vacation until I was an adult and on my own. Camping is what I do on vacation.

Swim- pool, ocean, lake didn’t matter I just really love water

Camp was also my favorite and I am not a roughing it kind of girl at all but I was safely away from my family for a few weeks and that was great. I was very happy in a platform tent with a bunch of other girls hiking for miles every day being forced to sing ridiculous songs. It was great.

My parents never went anywhere on vacation. The first time I ever went anywhere was my honeymoon at the age of 19 and we went to WDW.

Just being with my 23 first cousins! All of us together for two weeks at the end of August. Went there every year for 16 years. Best memories! Nothing fancy. Stayed in bungalows, swam, tennis, square dancing, bingo. Just the greatest.

We only went on two vacation that I can remember growing up. One was to San Diego. And the other was a 2 week road trip up to Northern California and back.

We ended up moving to one of the towns in Northern California that we stayed at on the road trip. Little did I know then, part of the purpose of the trip was my parents looking to find a place to relocate to because Orange County was becoming too crowded and the air quality too poor.

We use to go to Lake Tahoe once a year for a week and I'd take my best friend. We talked to the guys parking the cars at the casinos : ) We'd go get pizza, go swim at the motel pool and then my parents would meet up with us to take us to dinner. Simplier times back then. They'd give us money and we might go see a show or bowling. It was great.

We didn't go on vacation until I was a teenager. We started going long weekend camping trips then, real camping with a tent and sleeping bags and cooking on an open fire. After that we progressed to week long camping trips, Mama and Daddy got cots to sleep in and Daddy got a little propane one burner stove to cook on. Our tent had two rooms and my older brothers would sleep in little pup tents of their own. Our final camping trip was a month and half long driving and camping from New Mexico across the southwest to California, up the coast and back down through Utah and Colorado. Back then you could camp anywhere, we only camped in a park once that entire trip, that was at Donner Lake. Otherwise we just camped in the dessert or on the beach.

We didn’t go anywhere fancy, usually stayed at a Holiday Inn or no name motel, but I liked to swim in the pool if there was one. We went to a lot of historical sites and places with amusement parks. (But didn’t go to Disney until I was an adult, DH too.)

Vacations were 99.9% going to Florida for Spring Training since my father worked for MLB. Disney was mixed in on rare occasions, but most of the time my mom and I would go his baseball games or stay at the hotel and lounge at the pools.

We went several places growing up but my favourite was Toronto which we went at least twice a year. They are the best memories I have of my
Grandfather.

I always used to go on some type of summer vacation every year with my parents and sometimes my grandparents (Mom’s parents) who lived with us came along. For Disney parks we did get to WDW a few times and Disneyland once. Most of our trips were visiting other states in the US mostly historical sights but some other theme parks and aquariums or zoos as well. I have loved every place I was lucky enough to visit.

A lot of great trips staying with family in Canada. Fishing and swimming and boating.
