Thanks Doc! Hmm-got me thinking about that PGA Heritage golf classic. Does the golf tournament itself attract people to the resort? How about the island in general? The last time we went to the Heritage, it happened to also be Easter weekend and the island was PACKED! However, we couldn't sort out how much was due to the holiday and how much was due to the golf tournament. It might be in our radar for 2019 as long as it's not Easter again.

Yes, the Heritage is a HUGE attraction to Hilton Head and has been for years. This is a busy time regardless with Spring Break for many families, but next week will be even busier here with Spring Break and those going to the Heritage event combined. Last week and this week have been very busy with Easter vacationers, but next week will just as busy if not more. It will start to slow down at the end of April when Spring Break ends for most locations. May is usually a slower month until Memorial Day weekend which begins the summer season here.

We have tickets for the Heritage for the first time and are looking forward to the event next week! The Harbourtown lighthouse is all decorated with Tartan plaid for the event and looks great! :)

From today's Island Packet (local newspaper) - Wednesday, April 4, 2018 saw 69,614 cars cross the bridge onto HHI. The record traffic was May 26, 2017 (Memorial Day weekend) when 70,676 crossed the bridge.
One great thing about the DVC Resort is that it is centrally located on the island and there is a wealth of dining and shopping options within walking distance.

In addition, there is a free shuttle service - The Palmetto Dunes Buggy - for transportation within Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove (the area where the Disney resort is located) - so even when the resort van stops its regular schedule, the Dunes Buggy service is running for a few more hours each day 8:00am - 9:00pm. The service resumed on April 1 and runs daily through Labor Day.

Here is the entire article for those interested:

That picture is cool-I showed my golf-loving DH and he's interested for next year. Please let me know how everything goes next week, and what kind of ticket you have. The year we went, DH had a grounds ticket for the last day, so it was busy, but he went early and everything went smoothly. He even got to go to a sunrise "church" service on the 18th green. Besides, getting up early for golf is a given! At first, we thought some of those prices were high, but actually, they compare OK to the WDW theme park tickets, and for DH, the Heritage is much more fun!

We have passes for Friday, so it shouldn't be as busy as Sat/Sun, but still busy. Our insurance agency has a sponsor's tent at the 18th tee and invited us to enjoy what they have. The tickets for a one-day pass were $65 each with access to the entire course for the day. Tee-times begin at 7:20am with starts on both the first and tenth tees, but I don't think we'll make it quite that early! ;) Sat/Sun everyone starts from the first tee.

We are at the opposite end of the island and need to take the shuttle to get into the course. Parking is very tough in Harbourtown even for those who live there. It's about a 20 minute shuttle ride from Honey Horn to get into the grounds.

It will be a fun day!

How did you get along with the weather at the Heritage? I really appreciated your listing the prices. I told DH today that I HAD thought a weekly grounds pass was kind of expensive, but then today I ordered my scooter rental for our next WDW trip. At HHI, all I need is my adult trike rental. Comparing costs, after the trike, a grounds pass for the week brings the cost to about the same as for my scooter at WDW. Not so expensive after all.

We really enjoyed the Heritage. Our tickets were for Friday. We left our house at 9:30am for the drive to the shuttle bus parking and were inside the gates by 10:20am. It was a bit windy, but temp was 75 and sunny. Crowds were moderate - especially compared to Saturday where they had long lines for the shuttles (some had to wait over an hour to get on the bus). Our local insurance agency is an event sponsor and had a hospitality tent at the 18th tee, so we got to watch the pros tee off on that hole while enjoying lunch and beverages! The return trip was similar - about 55 minutes from the lighthouse to our driveway - including the bus trip back to the parking lot.

For the final day on Sunday bad storms were predicted, so they moved up the tee times and had pairings of three which moved things along nicely. Boeing (one the two main sponsors) had a flyover of a 787 jet liner on Saturday. Those planes are made here in SC, so it was quite a sight.

Here are a few photos from Friday:
The first is of the iconic Harbourtown Lighthouse (which is right behind the 18th green), the next was taken from the hospitality tent - the 18th tee is to the left about 20 yards, the last was taken from the 18th fairway just beyond where the tee shots landed - about 180 yards from the pin - the hole is about 475 yards tee-to-pin where we spent most of our time. The Calibogue Sound is on the left. On Saturday afternoon, our vantage point was elbow-to-elbow with spectators. Friday was wonderful by comparison crowd-wise.
