Why are you weighing me?! UPDATE DAY 3

Well, we finally made it back from our 10 day Halloween trip! There were tons of great moments, and a few not so great. This trip definitely started off on a yucky foot, but it more than redeemed itself by the end. And of course, once you get home and look back you realize the issues you had probably weren't as bad as they seemed :flower3:

This trip we used our DVC points and stayed at AKV - Kidani, in a savannah view 1 bedroom villa. It was our first trip flying down, and we had opted to use Disney transportation exclusively this trip.

We were REALLY looking forward to seeing the Halloween decorations and FINALLY getting a chance to hit MNSSHP. I'm a huuuuuuge villains fan. Naturally, about a month before the trip Disney announced the Villains Soiree, which ended up making our top 3 villains exclusive! Bitter, and defeated, I made reservations :lmao:

Another big part of our trip this time around was the Disability Access Service card. While we've been fortunate enough not to require the previous disability system, this trip we knew it was going to be necessary. I did make sure to record timing details pretty excessively, and hopefully our experience will help other DAS users plan with it.

ROLLLLLL CALLLLL

Me: Uber planner, Semi-neurotic, video game connoisseur

Cecil: Non adventurous foody, Jack Skellington Super fan, goes with the flow

Skyler: Goofy, indecisive, would happily eat mac and cheese for every meal

Danica: Dancing queen, sass master, easily distracted

The Jood: Thespian, zero middle ground emotion, oblivious to her surroundings

Fair warning... This will be a picture heavy trip report BECAUSE REASONS. We ate a lot, saw lots of characters, went to two MNSSHP and the dessert Soiree - there's a bunch :D

Pre Planning
Day 1 - Arrival
Day 2 - HS part 1
Day 2 - HS part 2
Day 3 - AK Part 1
Day 3 - AK Part 2

So excited to follow your report. Glad to hear you had a great trip & although you mentioned some downers, happy to hear it got better as it went along. Looking forward to the pictures :)

I'm just going to start out with this - I have flying anxiety. THERE. I said it.

04011bg-svbu.gif

I flew for the first time in 10ish years back in February down to Tampa for a cruise with Cecil. It was terrible. But what's MORE terrible than the 2.5 hour anxiety attack at 40,000 feet is driving for 16+ hours through the night one way. So I made the executive decision that we would fly, and really, the thought that 'at least if we die we'll all be together' only crept into my head the day or so before. So that's a bonus.

We ended up purchasing our flights on August 4 - and from that point on we ran into the heaviest string of bad luck! A few incidents include - Cecil having to get emergency surgery on his wrist. His car pooped out, causing us to buy another. 2/3 toilets broke... and naturally, we'd just spent a bunch of money on flights!

Mr. Buzz Killington really showed up and showed out!

1332549411buzzkillington.jpg

This is probably the only time I really thanked Disney for forcing us to plan things so far in advance! My dining reservations, FP+, etc was all complete and ready to go. The only real giant snag that Disney threw me was adding in the Villains Sinister Soiree to the MNSSHP.

Upon originally reading about the soiree, I thought it sounded cool but was WAAAAAAY too pricey. $100pp on top of a Halloween party ticket? No thanks. We had already purchased party tickets for 2 separate parties to make sure that we had ample time for everything we wanted to do!

see-all-the-things.jpg

I had it planned out perfectly because THAT'S WHAT I DO!!! I had planned how to split our time between both parties. I had arranged the BBB for the second party night, with Danica requesting to be Tinkerbell and obsessing about taking a picture with Captain Hook using her 'Tinkertude' face. It was perfect.

perfection.jpg

And then came the first soiree review.... and apparently Maleficent, Snow Queen, and Hook are all soiree exclusive.

vdstrbd.gif

I had eagerly awaited the review... curious to how the party would go. After seeing Disney make the post about the villains meeting with the princesses and then remove it, I was nervous! I logged onto the DIS, found a thread, and then BAM. Three of the biggest reasons were going to Disney during this time, GONE.

Upon the news, I did what any normal 28 year old, mother of 2 would do... and I cried about it.

ugly-cry-24.w529.h352.2x.jpg

What was more annoying was that I knew I was being ridiculous. I was annoyed at myself for crying about not getting to see a couple of Disney characters... but that only added to my frustration and made me cry more :lmao: I had previously told my mom about the dilemma, and held onto my values that I would absolutely not support taking away main villains from regular party guests. That lasted all of about 10 minutes #nowillpower

I called my mom. Gave a brief, 'we need to do the soiree,' and called Disney dining. It was a short wait, thankfully, since the dining line gal didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Ok. HANG UP. I saw that recreation was listed on the soiree page on the website so I called them. There was a 30 minute wait. Now, I need to explain... in my mind there is absolutely zero middle ground. Everything is some kind of dramatic action movie. And while I might appear totally normal on the outside, inside my head this was a life or death situation. I don't act upon these thoughts and feelings, but just know, that in my own head there was some kind of movie scene with a speeding vehicle, a bomb, and a time limit going on. You just can't reason with crazy.

Rottenecards_31458879_8k7fc4tq8z.png

Recreation finally answered and sadly, the only time available was the second seating, 11:00p, on our first party night. Not even close to what I'd previously planned out, but I took it.

Someone later posted on the DIS that they opened up second parties for October, and it seemed like the second party was what everyone really wanted. I figured I'd call back and see if the first party was available. After another 30 minute wait, the recreation gal told me the first party for our second MNSSHP (when we had BBB) was available! WOOT! Perfect! Now the kids won't be tired, we will see the villains, AND Danica can be Tinkerbell when she meets Hook. Sign me up, Mildred!

As soon as we got off the phone I checked the MDE page and saw that Mildred had signed me up for the second seating that night. NO. So I anxiously called back and waited another 30 minutes, confident that I'd never get the first party now. But I did. Bless the maker, I did. I don't know if blurting out 'I just called to switch my soiree and the previous agent totally screwed me and put me in the wrong time, and I can't be in that time, and it's not my fault and I need you to fix it,' helped though... The next agent stuck me into the first party on our second day and all was right with the world.

After all the drama of the month leading up to vacation, I was equal parts excited and nervous. I refused to allow myself to believe we were actually going until we touched down in Orlando - just waiting for something to happen.

Because of that, I didn't even start packing until 2 or so days before! Power laundry session? You betcha! I always end up assuming I have plenty of time to pack, and the next thing I know we're 3 days away. ALWAYS. And even knowing this pattern doesn't help me change it for next time. It's just the way of my life.

Since we were flying Southwest, everyone was able to check 2 bags for free. We didn't need that much luggage, but we definitely took advantage of it. We brought two extra suitcases barely packed so that we'd have room for stuff that we planned on buying. It was pretty awesome.

I dropped my Shepherd off at the Pet Resort around 5:00pm. It was heartbreaking. She's been before and seemed to enjoy it. But this time, she didn't want to walk back with the attendant. She kept stopping and looking at me and pulling away from them. If I didn't know that they take great care of the dogs and that she'd have a bunch of play sessions, I would have just taken her home right there. I mean, look at this face...

My other dog would be going to Grandma's. We worked it out that Grandma would pick up my shepherd on about 4 days later. Grandma had a full house with my brother in law's pitbull and aussie, my older cattle dog, her very senior dachsund, the 6 month old dachsund she adopted 2 weeks prior, and her new kitten.... it was a freaking zoo. My BIL's dogs left on Sunday, so Monday she'd snag my shepherd and hang out with them, so that made me feel better. It would just be a few days. My cattle dog LOVES going to Grandma's, so while she was depressed for a night without her sister, I knew she'd be super happy the next day when she made it out to the country!

My mom ended up getting to Columbus from Cincinnati about 10:30p, and we had just enough time to do the final packing checks before we all attempted to hit the sack. Naturally, I could sleep. I've never understood why people can't sleep the night before until now. Since we usually drive, we leave mid day - there's no 'as soon as I wake up I go to Disney' feeling!

We ended up getting up and out of bed at 4:00a, with hopes of getting on the road at 4:30a, and to the airport by 5:00a for our 7:10a flight.

And we were mostly successful. Cecil's mom had volunteered to meet us at the house and drive us all to the airport, taking my car back home so that we could avoid $200 in parking fees! Uh, yes please.

And we were off...

I'm new to the boards, so I hope you don't mind my following your trip report, but your keen sense of gifs and pics, including my favorite - Buffy, made you a sure fire read!

Editorial Note: Unfortunately, continuing on with the string of crappy happenings in our household, there was a completely unexpected death in the family today. Silver lining - this trip report will probably move super fast since it helps keep my mind off things. If there is a larger gap though, that's why. Thanks for understanding.

---------------------------

Grandma dropped us off at the airport just before 5:00a, which honestly for us is celebration worthy. Being on time is a not a skill we typically have. Everything went super smooth and we were waiting at our gate by 6:00a. We found a Starbucks, grabbed some breakfast, and tried to keep the kids amused for the next 45 minutes.

We did request preboarding for Skyler who is on the autism spectrum. They allowed all of us to board with her, which was unexpected and welcome. We snagged some seats, settled in, and I started my breathing techniques.

2c13d20a9295bd60ab984d56e0158702.jpg

Of course we ended up picking seats right on the wing of the plane. My coping mechanism? Make jokes. I'm not sure if the stewardess nearby appreciated my Ace Ventura or Bridesmaids impersonations...

PE7SDda.gif

Bridesmaids.jpg

The flight wasn't terrible, but naturally, Danica just HAAAAAD to go to the bathroom. My god. Could they make those things any smaller? I could barely fit in the darn thing!

Fat-Guy-in-a-Little-Coat.jpeg

We had previously tagged our luggage with the yellow DME tags, so once we landed Cecil led us to the Magical Express.

... just kidding.

Cecil led us in the complete opposite direction, adding 15 minutes to our time in the airport.

not_all_men_are_annoying_some_are_dead_tshirt-r321522f03c30404d91ab3e2e93cc2b18_8nhmi_512.jpg

Just read the signs for crying out loud! But regardless, we were in Orlando and I could taste the magic, so it was hard to be angry.

We waited in the AK bus line for about 10 minutes or so before we were shown to our particular vehicle. We had another 10 minute or so wait on the bus, and then we were off. We stopped at AoA, Pop, Jambo, and finally Kidani. It was fun to see AoA and Pop since they're both places we'd really enjoy staying, but haven't yet.

As soon as we walked off of the bus a CM with an iPad greeted us by name and escorted us to the front desk. When doing online check in, it advised me that it was 'streamlined,' so I had been expecting it from some of the reports I'd read.

While I checked in at the front desk I heard the kids yell 'There's a giraffe!' and sure enough, I looked to the right and saw a gorgeous giraffe walking by the large lobby window. It was amazing. Really, where else can you experience something like that?!

e16497image1.jpg

I verified with the front desk CM that we would be on the Sunset Savannah as that was my biggest priority. He acknowledge we were, advised our room wasn't quite ready, gave us our welcome packet, and circled the area that our room would be in. He let us know we'd receive a text message with the room number and we could head directly to the room instead of coming back to the desk. Works for me! It was about 11:30a and after debating whether we wanted to eat lunch at Mara or DTD, we settled on DTD since we were heading that way later anyway.

We waited for the DTD bus for about 5 minutes, hopped on, and made our way to our shopping and eating destination. We had plans to meet Cecil's brother Jason, and his girlfriend Cheyenne, for dinner. Jason works for Chase and was on a work trip to Disney since they are partners. Perfect timing, and uh, pretty awesome work trip!

By the time the bus dropped us off we were starving! It wasn't very late in the day, but we'd been up since 4:00a, so it felt like a lot longer! I'd wanted to try Earl of Sandwich the past few trips with no success, so we decided now was the time. The line was fairly long, but it seemed to be moving quickly and we hopped in. My biggest challenge with eating is Skyler, but as soon as I saw they had tomato soup we were home free.

http://www.earlofsandwichusa.com/our-food/

I had ordered the Earl Club... OMG. What the freaking heck is that sandwich sauce? I can't get it out of my mind. It's delicious. Absolutely GREAT sandwich. All I could think about was, 'if I move to Tampa instead of Hilton Head, this would only be 1.5 hours away. I could drive that for lunch. That's no big deal.' :lmao: I've looked and can't find it for sale anywhere. I found a few recipes, but I have an aversion to creating things like that on my own. Either I'll miserably fail and turn myself off forever, or I'll fantastically win and eat it so much I gain 10 lbs. There's really no actual win here.

After Earl we walked around a bit and went into the shops. The kids both brought down all of their saved money, and my mom had given them each a $25 gift card. Naturally, they wanted to spend it. We made a deal that they couldn't spend it until later in the trip and if whatever they wanted was here we'd come back for it. God knows we don't need the outrage that comes from buying something now, but finding something you want more later.

One of Skyler's biggest attachments right now is Lego. Naturally, she was ecstatic when she saw the Lego store! I almost wanted to avoid it entirely since I didn't think I'd be able to get her out of there, but it was fine.

It was hot. H-O-T! If we were in the shade it was tolerable, but with the sun beating down it was miserable. We thought we would be shopping until our dinner reservation at 5:45p at T-rex, but we were done by about 4:00p. Between the heat and traveling all day we were all just dunzo.

I did, however, find a new obsession of mine. The frozen lemonade from the Wetzel's Pretzels stand... get one now. So perfect. We also snagged a Tables In Wonderland card at the Guest Relations here using our DVC membership. It was $100 - we'll get 20% off of our total bill and 18% gratuity is automatically added.

We spent about an hour sitting on a ledge by Starbucks near the hot air balloon in the shade to try and just cool off and rest, check on the dogs, let everyone know we were there, and check our emails. The kids were obsessed with trying to find and catch those lizards, and fortunately, they were all over the rocks and ledges where we were hanging out.

At about 5:15p we went over to T-rex and checked in early for our reservation while we waited for Jason and Cheyenne. The kids were occupied digging in the Bone Pit - a godsend of an invention at that point. It also had started to rain a little bit - a covered play area for the kids right next to our destination... ultimate score.

We ended up getting seated about 10 minutes early. We were along the side wall with a great view of the fish tank, which was new for us. Cecil has a salt water aquarium at home, so he really enjoyed the view, and we'd all been curious how the tank looked after it exploded earlier this year!

fish-tank-explosion-nemo-disney__oPt.jpg

The kids were excited to see Jason and Cheyenne. They were especially excited to see them in Disney! Jason seemed extra happy, and kept talking about all the fun he was having in the World. He's officially been bitten by the Disney bug. Naturally, Cecil decided to start telling him that he should begin pin trading.

seriously.jpg

They chatted about pin trading like kids on Christmas, which was nice as they don't have a lot of common interests.

The food was great as usual. We ended up getting the little doughnut things with dip to go. We love them, but we weren't hungry for them at the moment.

We walked around a bit with Jason and Cheyenne while we made our way back to the bus. We had previously personalized a Christmas ornament in the Christmas store, which was ready to be picked up. Our family tradition is to get a Christmas ornament for each vacation. This year we chose a Halloween pumpkin head Mickey ear ornament.

7509055880684

In one of the stores we found character tails and I forced the kids to let me take a picture of them wearing one because I'm cruel, and it's what I do.

Hello, backfire! A CM saw me laughing about it and forced me to take a picture with a tail AND a hat!!! Lesson learned...

We picked it up, said our goodbyes, and hopped back on the bus to get a good night's rest at the resort. My text message said we were in room 7744, so that's where we went.

Bask in my Microsoft Paint skillz...

We were in the red circle section, facing onto Sunset Savannah where the arrow is pointing. The red X marks the bus transportation. Looking at the map, it looks a lot farther than it felt. It was maybe a 6 minute walk from the elevator, and we were on the 3rd floor - nice and low towards the animals.

When we entered our room our luggage was there. I went and looked at our view and thought the savannah itself was really nice. It seemed really large and had several trees. I figured it'd be a good spot for animals to hang in the shade.

This was the view during the day.

Overall, I think next time I'd request to be closer to the lobby - not so much for the proximity, but I feel like the animals hung out there more frequently. Which makes sense. They'd want guests in the lobby to see animals at all times.

After we unpacked and showered we all snuggled in for the night. We were all in bed and passed out by 9:30p I'd imagine. It was a long day! And the best part..... those GLORIOUS cloud pillows from HHI are also present in AKV. I could've died. I love them! Cecil and I took the master, the kids slept on the pull out couch, and my mom slept on the pullout chair. Yes, The Jood was given first choice on where to sleep - simmer down.

I was crazy glad to be back in my happy place, and while it still didn't feel real just yet, I was looking forward to the next day at Hollywood Studios!

Please accept my sincere condolences on the death in your family.

I am enjoying your TR so far. Thanks for taking the time to post it. You have a darling family.

Great trip report! Cant wait to hear the rest.

Im sorry about the loss in your family!!

Thanks for following along so far, friends :)

Please accept my sincere condolences on the death in your family. I am enjoying your TR so far. Thanks for taking the time to post it. You have a darling family.

Thanks. We will get through it :)

I found your trip report from the Sept 2014 group on facebook and now I'm here to follow along! cant wait to see what else you guys got up to :)

I love the fact that they had you wear the tail! There are so many reasons to love a Disney trip.
Thank You for that little inspiration. Yes, I will be trying that on my DD (even though she 14) on the next trip.

first off, sorry to hear about the loss in your family - sending positive thoughts! :goodvibes

Love your writing style and all the gifs ... plus, as a kid, I was pretty obsessed with Jim Carey and Ace Ventura so I might be a bit biased

Gotta love how no matter how much planning you do Disney throws a curve ball in at the last minute! "Bitter, and defeated, I made reservations " ... yeah, pretty sure Disney marketing was counting on that being the general reaction!

That is great that they were able to get you in for the first party the night you were doing the BBB though

Love the Lego Store pics .... it is usually hard to get me out of there, let a lone my kids!

I am trying to keep the family away from Pin trading for as long as possible ... that is not something I need to be researching on top of everything else!

I am so sorry for your loss.

Your trip report so far is wonderful! I adore your use of pics/gifs and your writing style.

YUUUUUUSSSSSS.... finally! The first park day! I'm NOT a morning person. In fact, I'm downright dangerous when awoken from slumber...

gifs-oakland-rooster.gif

BUT, we're in Disney! So naturally, I was the first one awake and decided that everyone needed to wake up to the Winnie the Pooh Song! It thoroughly amused The Jood since my dad used to wake me up by singing this song when I was in high school and I was NOT amused.

Dad: 'Gotta get u-'
Me: 'I'M UP. SHUT UP.'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gve6an_bLKg

Our first park day has traditionally been Animal Kingdom - kind of an easy day for our first park, and it's usually a weekend so it's the recommended park. This trip Easy WDW had Hollywood Studios as the recommended park day and as a bonus it was the last weekend for the Frozen Summer of Fun fireworks, so we went with that. When they extended all the Frozen stuff it definitely put a bit of a kink in my plans. I felt like I had to cram all this extra stuff into one day, since (at the time) they hadn't extended any of it into our 2nd Hollywood Studios day later in the trip. But whatever - if it was a busy day so be it.

We started the morning getting onto the bus on time  and heading to Hollywood Studios for our pre-park opening breakfast at Hollywood and Vine at 8:20a (park opened at 9a). This cute little statue was out front and the kids loved it!

And of course, you have to get the picture in front of Sorcerer Mickey!

The line to get into the park early for reservations wasn't long, but it wasn't short. I took the opportunity to take Skyler over to GR to get her a Disability Access Services card while the rest of the crew waited in the reservation line. I know getting the DAS at the outside GR windows is hit or miss, but figured there was no harm in asking since we were waiting anyway.

The CM at the GR window asked what I needed and I advised that I wanted to obtain a DAS for Skyler. She asked what her needs were, and even after knowing what I wanted to say I kind of blanked. Sometimes it's just hard to put into words what you know in your head you want to say. For me, I just know what she needs or what her quirks are because I live with it every day - trying to explain those things to someone else is more difficult.

I ended up starting with 'she has autism' which I know isn't needed, necessary, or helpful. It's just what ended up coming out. I started to try and explain a few of her issues and the CM just said, 'she has trouble waiting in lines?' I said 'yes' and she started the DAS process. She did advise that they needed to get the iPad and it would take about 5 minutes, which was fine. Once she had her tools she came out of the door on the side, snapped Skyler's photo, printed the DAS, explained it, and we were on our way.

The rest of the crew was about 10 people back now, and they'd obtained little Olaf cut outs as part of the Summer of Fun stuff. It said to take pictures with the cut outs and Tweet the picture to a certain # via Twitter. From research, I already knew they used these images on the screens during the Frozen fireworks at the end of the night - so we did end up sending a few throughout the day.

Once we got into the park we went directly over to H&V. We checked in at the podium and waited about 10 minutes before we were called. In the meantime, we ended up getting started with our Olaf pictures!

Once we got into the restaurant, I was shocked that it was only about 1/2 filled. Event though it was before the park officially opened, I feel like I've seen people vying for these reservations and not finding anything available. Regardless, our waitress let us know the characters would come around and we could see that we had plenty of time before the first character made their way over. We loaded up on the goodies at the buffet, and waited.

Unfortunately, this was also the only optimal day for Skyler to do the Jedi Training Academy. She'd been talking about it for months, and our next HS day we didn't get into the park until later. Cecil and Skyler knew they'd have to leave breakfast, sign up, and come back. We were hoping that the characters would make it around before they left and then the rest of us could just meet them after paying for the meal. It didn't work out that way, unfortunately. Skyler ended up missing Princess Sophia in the rotation.

When they got back, we figured we'd wait for Sophia to come back around so Skyler could meet her. Our waitress noticed us waiting, asked who we hadn't seen, and I explained that everyone had come around by Skyler had unfortunately missed Sophia. She ended up giving us a 'special meet and greet' at the front. Near the entrance on each side of the restaurant there are two benches. They had us sit on the bench that corresponded to the side Sophia was on, someone went and told her we were there, and she broke rotation to come over and take pictures. It was genius. It took 10 seconds and opened up a table for the restaurant. This was obviously not a special meet and greet, but it's a genius idea for the restaurant to help keep people circulating. We were thrilled we didn't have to wait around, and after the photo with Sophia we were off.

Cecil had gotten Skyler signed up for JTA with the 5:30p time slot, which is exactly what we wanted, but when they told us we needed to be there 30 minutes early it definitely put a cramp in the timing. No matter. We had a 3:45p reservation at Hollywood Brown Derby for the F! package and figured we'd just ask for the check as soon as the food came, pay, and they could leave early to get over there if they needed to.

Cecil said JTA sign ups were INSANE. I had forewarned him, but nothing could prepare him for the hysteria. He said it was a giant wave of people running to get there, and one lady who was trying to weave through people face planted into the side walk. While I get that it isn't funny, and I hope she's okay, Cecil's imitation of what happened was hilarious. He said she didn't even try to use her arms to help with the fall - just full face to the ground.

fainting-goat-o.gif

Danica naturally wanted to photo ops at every opportunity on the way to our first FP+ at TSMM.

We were about 10 minutes early for the beginning of the TSMM FP (10:15a - 11:15a), so we decided to get our faces panted just a few feet away since there was a short line. After a very minor amount of arm twisting, I ended up painting my face too. I tried to get out of it by saying, 'I'll sweat it off' but the artist replied with, 'as long as 50% is still visible we can touch it up for free!' Oh gee. Thanks.

After finishing up with face paint we went over to TSMM and hopped into the FP+ line at 10:25a. We made it completely through the ride and were out at 10:40a - so 15 minutes total wait and ride time. Not bad! I requested a DAS return time immediately. The wait at this point was 65 minutes, putting our return time at 11:35a.

This is where I'd like to put some evidence for later. In august we went to Kings Island. There they have some kiddy haunted house where you shoot bullseyes with little later guns, similar to the Buzz ride. Now, I'm the gamer in this family. It's been a sticking point that Cecil can't beat me in a video game for our entire marriage. Well, in this haunted house my gun was broken. I know my gun was broken because I reached out, put the gun on the bullseye, and pulled the trigger but still received no points. So Cecil won. And he thinks it was skill... and you have no idea how hard that makes my competitive juices boil.

hadeskaboomimcool.gif

So.... I'd like to post our TSMM scores. I believe you'll know which one I am.

Victory is sweet.

We made our way over to the hat area to find a spot for the Frozen processional. It was already jam packed. We ended up standing across from Min and Bills near a bench, which was actually a decent spot until they blocked the pathway for the floats. Then of course, everyone stands there ignoring the CMs and when they do move they just step to the side right in front of you with their kids on their shoulders. NO I'M NOT BITTER.

attitude.gif

We held the kids up. They saw. It worked out, but still. Have some dagon courtesy people!

We made our way over to Wandering Oakens to check out all the Frozen stuff. I was determined to get the Aurasma photo with Sten and use it as our Christmas picture, completely forgetting that we had all painted our faces. Whatevs.

Danica had been wanting a Frozen Magicband, and while it pained me to purchase one after having a perfectly good MB that we got for free... I did. Because we're at Disney and I'm a sucker. Surprisingly, she chose the Elsa MB and not the Olaf one. I told her the Olaf band sang when you redeem a FP and she instantly changed her mind. I should've just kept my mouth shut since it was $10 MORE than the Elsa band.

veruca-salt-annoyed-o.gif

MyMagicPlus_Full_21525.jpg;width=640

They wouldn't let us buy the band without having Danica's band present to link the new one to the system. I assume this is to prevent people from purchasing the bands and reselling them - and frankly, I'd rather go through the trouble if it eliminates some of the ridiculous up charges I've seen for park products.

After we linked up Danica's new band we made our way over to the Winter Wonderland. It was pretty jam packed with people waiting in line to ice skate and build snow men, neither activity we were interested in thank god. I live in Ohio. I'm good.

We did the Aurasma photo with the help of a CM since The Jood was incapable of understanding how it all worked. Sadly, the picture doesn't match my Christmas card vision.

Next to this photo we took a picture and had Anna and Elsa inserted in.

That dang face paint!!! I'll still consider using it for Christmas, but it's still not my vision!

When we left the building there was a Frozen backdrop and PP photographer in front of it, so we stopped there too. They were doing shots with Olaf inserted.

Act cold!

We apparently all took that to mean different things - I look sad, Danica's confused, Skyler's trying to figure out what's going on and Cecil looks like he just saw a spider. Welcome to my family.

They also added a little video on our MM of Olaf doing a little dance next to our cold face picture. It's nice, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it?

Right after our photo session we walked back over to TSMM to redeem our DAS time. On the way, we bumped into some of the green army men, who I LOVE. They are always doing goofy things, and I especially love when there are a bunch of them out at the same time.

They made a big scene getting in a group and circling around with their hands in the middle. One or two kept sneaking off and another would go grab them really quick. Afterwards, they grabbed all the kids watching and included them in the big 'annnnnd team' thing they did.

*** I feel like I need to insert a WDW wide apology for the amount of butts that my children probably end up grabbing while taking pictures. Sorry ***

After pictures we redeemed our DAS time at 12:15. We were at the ride turnstile in 8 minutes.

As soon as got out of TSMM we made our way towards the Frozen Sing-a-long. Our FP+ time wasn't until 1:15p - 1:30p so we grabbed frozen lemonades from the Joffrey's near the line, snacks, and hung out on a bench to enjoy them in the shade. While the kids were snacking well had intermittent restroom breaks, and I walked over to Star Tours to grab a return time.

When I got to Star Wars, I noticed that the same CM that was verifying people's FP+ reservations and bands was the one I had to ask about the return time. And I felt terrible. He was clearly a little flustered, and asking him to another thing just stunk. But I did, because, that's the system. I don't know if he was just too flustered to try to do the math, or if he was just being nice, but he wrote the return time for the immediate time. The standby wait was 30 minutes, so I should have had a 20 minute wait time. He did let me know that he just wrote it for now, I thanks him, said we would still need to come back, and made my way back to the Sing-a-long. It was 12:50p when I had the DAS filled out, and if I would have had the 20 minute return time it still would have worked out that we could do Star Tours right after the Sing-a-long, which was the goal.

When I got back to the Sing-a-long we all tossed away our trash and made our way into the FP+ line which was already starting to let people in. There was a father with a toddler waaaaay back in the line just trying to let her walk around on her own, and he told us to go on ahead of him. There were umbrellas along the line that provided shade which was nice. A few minutes before we started going in I noticed the father and his toddler a few people farther back in the line and asked if he wanted to come jump in front of us since that's where he was originally. He declined, but it was nice to see guests just being polite to each other instead of worrying about being 1-2 people farther behind.

I had watched the standby line grow and grow and grow as we ate our snacks and waited in our line, and I was really thankful that we had gotten a FP+ for it. About 2 minutes before the line started moving it started to sprinkle. I know this is a poor time of year to go for this issue, but I HATE getting rained on.

Thankfully we were right under an umbrella that I could hover under, and once the line started moving there were some trees that I just made sure to stay under.

When we got into the theater we were in the very first row behind the reserved seats for the Frozen Premium Package. We were nearly right in the middle. It was fantastic. We spent the next 20 minutes or so sitting on cozy seats, dry, in the air conditioning. It was perfect.

While we were waiting the auditorium filled in, and I do mean FILLED in. It was packed. At one point I noticed a woman, her husband, and two children, hovering over the last premium package row entrance (the row directly in front of us). I watched the silent disagreement between the adults, and then the woman moved the beam that holds the elastic blocker one row up, and she sat down right in the middle of the completely empty last row. Her husband just stood there mortified while she waved for her children to come over, but a CM immediately came over and told her to get out. It was hilarious. The CM put the blocker back and I was really just kind of baffled that this woman thought the CM manning the area a) didn't know the total amount of rows used for the package and b) wouldn't noticed this woman was in a row that was completely empty. I mean, you're not even blending in!!! Now she probably lost the seat that she originally had and ended up with a seat farther back because she wanted to be a douche - yeah. I said it. You're a douche if you try and sneak into something you didn't pay for.

Once the show started it was hilarious. I thought that I was going to rip my hair out listening to all the off key children singing, but the music was loud enough to block most of it out.

The pictures we tried to take on our phones were pretty blurry from all the movement and lighting changes. But the historians were hilarious and they did a lot of improv jokes that were really for the adults.

The Sing-a-long lasted for about 30 minutes, which ended up being the exact amount of time needed for the rain to go away! Super shibby! We made our way over to Star Tours and snagged a couple PP photos.

We hopped into the FP+ line using our DAS at 2:33p and we were in the row of our seating assignment in 4 minutes. The standby line was down to 20 minutes. Once we got off Star Tours we were kind of at a loss for an hour what to do before our F! dinner reservation. We ended up just making our way over to Hollywood Brown Derby and looking at some of the shops and pins. We went over to check out the Villain Store merchandise since I was hoping to find a Maleficent shirt and ear set for the Halloween party.

We checked into our reservation about 3:30p in hopes that we could get seated early. While we were waiting outside with our buzzer, I heard someone come out of the restaurant and inform her party that they were running 30 minutes behind. OH GOD. There is no way we would make our JTA check in time at 5:00p if that's true.

Cecil went into the restaurant to ask and the hostess advised that since it rained, people hung out at their tables and that's why they were behind. She said that if we cancelled she would wave the $10/pp fee. Cecil relayed the information, and we wanted to cancel, but we did the F! package and there was no way we were giving up the reserved seating. Cecil went back into the restaurant to talk to the hostess and asked what we should do. She cancelled our reservation, waived the fee, and gave us the F! reserved seating passes.

I feel like in this situation, everybody wins. We get our passes which we would have gotten anyway - so no loss for anyone there. And the restaurant frees up a space to try and help with the backlog.

We decided we'd just grab a QS meal. We've never actually had a QS meal at Hollywood Studios since we always do an early F! dinner, so we weren't really sure where to go. We started making our way down Commissary Lane towards Pizza Planet when it started to rain, so we ducked into ABC Commissary. We ordered food and grabbed a spot just in the nick of time, as people started pouring in to avoid the rain.

We took our time eating and ended up hanging out at ABC for a bit since it was still raining pretty hard. Once it let up we made our way over to JTA to sign in. I was terrified that they'd cancel, but the rain seemed to have passed. We figured that Cecil would stay with Skyler and the Jedi group while me, The Jood, and Danica grabbed spots by the stage.

They gave Skyler her robe and she really started getting excited.

The Jedi host was great and had a bunch of great, on the spot jokes. Skyler followed directions well and really loved the whole experience. Sadly, right after we stopped recording one of the Storm Troopers went right up to Skyler and bent down starting at her for a minute. Finally he gave her a thumbs up on her face paint. It was hilarious. The whole thing lasted 20 minutes or so, and really gathered a big crowd of people who just stopped to watch as they passed, so getting a spot early was important. There was also a PP photographer taking photos of everyone and we got a card with all the pictures on it to link to our MM.

At the end they get a little certificate. Skyler wants to frame it and put it in her room, and she's also started watching the Star Wars Rebels animated series... she truly loved the experience. I think it ended up being much cooler than she originally thought when she watched the videos. The rest of the trip she'd tell CMs about it, show them her button that she got, and say she was a padawan.

After Jedi Training made our way over to Animation Studio again in hopes of drawing a character. When we got there, a class had just started so the wait was around 35 minutes. We decided to skip it and try again on our second HS day. We walked around the building for a bit and let the kids play some of the computer games they have there. Apparently, my Disney spirit animal is Belle, Danica is Nala, Cecil is Jiminy Cricket, and Skyler is Pocahontas. I don't believe a word of it since Jiminy Cricket is wise... if they got that wrong I'll just assume the rest aren't right either!

We jumped in line for Minnie's meet and greet. The line took 8 minutes. Her parlor area was cute, but I thought she was in a fancier outfit from pictures I saw.

We played a few computer games and made our way over to ToT for our FP+ from 6:25p - 7:25p. I figured we could go from ToT directly over to the area for F!, grab a snack, and wait for the show!

We ended up getting to ToT right at 7:15p. We went right in and were put immediately into a group going into the movie room. Once we left the movie room the wait to be sorted for our elevator only took about 5 minutes. The groups always look so much bigger than they actually are.

The kids, even though they always talk about loving this ride, were apprehensive. Danica always says she hates it and won't do it, but after I force her into it she says she loves it. I'm pretty sure she just thinks it's funny now to say it's terrifying and she won't do it again. But both kids dislike the movie and the scenes before the actual drop, so they close their eyes. I always end up laughing hysterically the whole ride because Danica is so terrified - I'm probably a terrible person for that. But I don't care.

Skyler's face :rotfl2:

We made our way over to the reserved seating for F! and I was shocked at how many people were already there and how crowded it was. We did the F! package in February and I felt like we had the whole section to ourselves!

We found a spot on the isle and waited for Cecil to run and get some napkins to wipe off the bleachers because they were soaked. It took him forever to maneuver through the crowds, and then the food place wouldn't give him any napkins unless he bought something. So he bought a pretzel and took 400 napkins.

When we got everyone situated Cecil and I both went back up to get drinks and snacks for everyone. We grabbed popcorn, cotton candy, drinks, and caramel corn in a souvenir bucket. I really wanted to try and find something more substantial but the crowds were making me grumpy, and the line was taking forever.

We made our way back to the seats with about 5 minutes until showtime.

As usualy, F! was awesome. It's genuinely my favorite park ending show I think. There's just something about those glow in the dark Lion King floats and animals that just really blows me away. Last trip we saw Megora, my second fave, on the ferry boat. She was sadly absent this time, but there were a lot of cool characters up there as usual.

We made a plan that Cecil would carry Skyler, I'd carry Danica, and The Jood would just keep up, but if anyone got separated to just meet by the bus back to AK. The crowds were just... so overwhelming. Danica started out walking but after a few bumps and shoves from people I carried her the rest of the way - which isn't the easiest thing in the world after a day in the parks!

We managed to all stay together, but the streets were just packed with people waiting to watch the Frozen fireworks. We ended up grabbing a spot right on the corner of Hollywood and Sunset Blvd in front of a screen so we could see what was happening on the stage. We were right next to a pole, which was apparently a cut off point for where people could stand. Any time someone stopped in the walkway a CM standing there advised them that they needed to be on our side of the pole, or the opposite side of a tree on the other side.... so of course people tried to just squish to the side and bump us over. UH, NO. 'You can quit pushing me, there's nowhere for me to scoot over' was said several times.

The view for the screen was pretty obstructed with a lamp post, but it was okay. The fireworks were actually a great view, and the palm trees actually made watching them even cooler. I'd read a lot of reviews saying the Frozen fireworks shouldn't be missed... I really didn't feel that way. Aside from having some Frozen songs that I love I thought they were just alright. I'm glad I saw them, but it was more of a pain than it was worth honestly. Hollywood Blvd was at a standstill of people packed together. It's just not my thing.

We decided to head into some shops and take our time getting out to avoid the madness. Danica was adamant that she wanted to spend money on a baby Pegasus she had seen another girl carrying around. It was an odd choice, but she stuck with it all day. She knew she was spending her own money, so she bought it. And honestly, she carried that stupid thing around everywhere. So good for her for making a good choice with her money.

By the time we got to the bus there was a pretty big line. We ended up making it onto the second bus, but we were standers... and that was awful. The jerking forward and back while trying to keep Danica from losing her balance darn near ripped my shoulder out of the socket. And since AKV isn't a short ride, it just stunk. And I think it soured my attitude of the bus system - which isn't really their fault, but Disney transportation just isn't for me. I'd rather walk an extra 10 minutes to my car, sit, and drive myself comfortably.

Once we got back to the resort we all showered to get the makeup off our faces and passed out. Overall, it was a great day and we did a ton of stuff! I was pleasantly surprised how my feet felt. I soaked them in the jacuzzi tub for a bit before melting into my cloud pillow and drifting off to sleep thinking about our plans for Animal Kingdom the next day.
