cheapest or weirdest thing you have ever seen in disney restaurant or food court.

Orlando airport at end of vacation. McDonalds.

Meals came up, called our number (we were standing RIGHT there) - went to pick up tray and a man took the "large" bag of food off the tray. :scared1:

I said to the server "oh, sorry, I thought this was ours - number XX". He said "yeah, it is" and pushed it towards us. There were only 2 happy meals - 2 adult meals were gone!! It took me 5 minutes and a manager to explain that we paid for all the meals and that man "SITTING RIGHT THERE!!!!!" took our meals.

Got it all straightened out. Kept watching the man - he ate quickly and left.

I think its MUCH weirder to spend money like a complete fool! We are not at all cheap but its unfathomable when our friends MUST stay at concierge at the Poly, because they like the cookies when they return from the parks. They don't usually take advantage of anything else with concierge as they are at the park...so they pay $200 or more a night for cookies...wow! must be tasty! BOB

I agree. I do think concierge is kind of a foolish way to spend money. I have been a fool before and done it (not at WDW because is sounds like it would be a huge disappointment) but at Hard Rock Hotel and Universal -- an extra $100 a night for bagels and juice in the morning. I think room service breakfast for 4 would not have even come to that. And it would have been HOT!

I would've called airport security & let them thow that he stole the food.....People like that need to be put in their place.

This isn't a Disney story but my husbands young cousins were always so picky! I was mortified when their parents met us for dinner at Fuddruckers (Burger place) carrying a Wendy's bag!

There is a KFC by us. On a few Sundays after church, we have stopped there for the buffett. Recently I have noticed parents who come in with McDonalds bags for the kids and then they order the buffett. They sit in the farthest corner from the counter. Then they give the kids a few things off of the buffett too.

My weirdest experiance was the past trip with DS in Cosmic Rays, ds had the chicken tenders and did not eat them all and almost none of the fries, when I was throwing it away, someone came over and asked me for it, ( and I just about had it in the can) and asked if they could please have the rest. It was a young kid with a group of friends and I think they may have been cheerleaders. I let her have it but I also felt guilty later for not offering to buy her a dinner :sad2:

Oh, my goodness!!!! I don't doubt he "left quickly"

I have been enjoying reading this thread so much - the hot dog people are my favorite. I will share what we did last year on our trip...

So, it's the last day and we are getting ready to leave Pop and I suggested to my husband that, instead of eating at the Food Court, we use our last two CS credits and get sandwiches to eat while we are waiting at the airport ( we would be waiting a few hours). He goes to check us out and we have about 15 minutes till we have to be outside for the bus to take us back to the airport.

I look over all the sandwich selections and finally decide on the ones we want. I go to check out and the CM tells me I have ANOTHER CS credit. OK, so I hurry back to get another selection. Then, as I try to check out again, I have 3 snack credits!!! I am rushing around, trying to use these up and I only have a couple minutes left.

We end up at Olando airport with a grocery bag full - two HUGE sandwiches, a cheese plate, a family size bag of BBQ potato chips, a piece of tie-dye cheese cake, two bottled waters and a bag of goofy Make your own burger candies! We spread out a virtual buffet and chowed down at the airport.

I guess you could argue it was "cheap", but I didn't want to waste my credits. BTW, while we were on the bus, a family from Canada said they had 10 LEFTOVER meal credits!!!

I just heard a Disney related podcast where they were playing a call from a listener. She was checking in and a person near her was checking out. The chkout person was told he still had a few CS or TS credits left and asked what he could do with them. One castmember sugestion was that he could give them away, which I heard you couldn't do. He turned and gave them to this woman. They had to be used by midnight and she was able to use them at Artist's Point. That was cool.

HMMM...... Do I sense a group that will now hang out around the check in/out area, looking for those with leftover dining plan credits? :scared1:

One HOT, I mean HOT, day at the AK as me and my DH were leaving the park we saw a family (parents and 2 kids) "tailgating." They had an SUV and had a cooler full of food and drinks. It looked like bread, luncheon meat, condiments, sodas and water. They were picnicking (is that even a word?) in the hot parking lot. I wondered "how is this a vacation?????!!!!" At first I wondered why they didn't just go back to their resort and eat the food they had brought but then it dawned on me that perhaps they were staying off-site somewhere very cheap and it would be a pain in the rump to go all the way back to the hotel.

We bring sodas and water when we go to Disney - we drive vs. flying. We pack a small cooler and that way we have drinks driving down and drinks when we get there. As we all know the price of cokes and water is ridiculous at Disney and although we can afford it, it just feels icky to pay those prices. However, I am now excited that you can buy the smaller bottles of water in the parks. And, all rooms have refrigerators - that's a good thing. We still bring the cooler though. When we stay at the YC or BC, I like to get a coffee cake loaf at the Boardwalk Bakery and some milk. Sometimes I eat breakfast off of that for 2 days. I haven't bought it in awhile, but I remember paying $4 for it and it feeding us breakfast for 2 days. but, I can't imagine enjoying dragging coolers and backpacks of food into the parks...sounds painful to me.

We also share meals sometimes because of the portion sizes at some of the restaurants.

I've read this thread cause I thought it was funny but I'm really suprised at how so many people get upset over this type of stuff. Espcially after entering a thread that is marked cheapest or weirdest thing you've seen.

We've seen people bring bread into POR food court and make sandwiches from the jelly packets.

That being said DH and I can be cheap and odd and we are cool with it, even joke what must that person must have thought? We can often afford things but having a poor childhood has left it's mark on both of us. We are proud of being cheap;) That being said if you see something odd I did feel free to share it and get a giggle about it. We don't mind:goodvibes

People get upset when others make comments like "if they can't afford to go to WDW they shouldn't be there." It makes assumptions about people that may be far from the truth.

If people are stealing or cheating the system--that is wrong. But just packing your lunch or sharing snack? What is so weird, funny, outrageous, etc about that? Maybe the family wants to watch their weight, maybe they want to cut down on expenses, maybe they keep Kosher.

I'm not okay with knowing people may be scrutinizing every bite I take and listening in to my family's conversation while eating, and frankly I'm surprised other people think that is just fine.

I think it is human nature to watch others espcially when you are packed like sardines. I don't think people actually scrutinize others. We don't like to eavesdrop on others either but at the same time sometimes it is impossible not to overhear the table that is .5 foot fom you.

I have to say that when I was younger, we would go to Six Flags and that's the way we would always have lunch and we lived not too far from there, maybe thirty minutes.

As a kid, it's just the way it was, never questioned, never bought food in the park at all. Now, I'm very happy we don't do that any more but back then, it was the only way to go to the parks.

True, but as a parent I teach my kids to mind their own business. It's one thing to notice something, its another thing to talk about, unless of course, others behavior is infringing on me. But that is not the case with a family sharing a snack or packing a lunch.

.

I know if I lived there...and many people do, live right there near Disney, I would go often (at first, I am sure that excitements wears off for some) and we would certainly bring lunch with us! Perhaps those that are sitting there with their sack lunches just live up the road and come over for the day quite often!

The cheapest "thing" I've ever seen was my niece and her husband on our big family trip last May. Not once, but twice, they whipped out their calculator in the middle of the restaurant (Big River Grill and Fulton's) to make sure they only paid for what they got to eat! We were a group of 13 people and all we had to do was split the bill by 13. Talk about embarassing

That is not cheap behavior. I get tired of people who want to divide the bill into equal portions when my DH and I don't order or eat the extra appetizers, alcohol, desserts, etc. that the rest of the party does. Why should I pay for their food? And it also irritates me to no end when people just want to pay the cost of their actual food item and don't spring for the tax or the tip. Frankly, it's just sponging off of other people.
My DH and I are diabetic and non-drinkers. We have to watch what we eat and order accordingly. Why should we have to pay for other people's indulgences?
BTW, we also split Dole Whip Floats, etc., so we can snack on the goodies without blowing the carb count for the day!

I agree. I never saw so many people eavesdropping on conversations and staring as I did at WDW. I don't really get it. I'm kind of in my own little world while i'm there -- paying attention to my family and myself.

One situation I was on a boat coming from WL just talking with my mom, making plans for the day, and this woman was just staring a hole right into me. I looked at her and we basically had a staring contest, she only looked away when I refused to. Geez! Get a life and engage in some conversation with your husband. Or look at the pretty bird over there. Just quit staring! It's impolite!

Bingo! That's the problem. If you can't afford to go, you shouldn't. Common sense.
I'm sorry, but this statement is absolutely ridiculous (and elitist). They can afford to go, if they're frugal with their meals. Food is one of the most expensive parts of any vacation away from home, especially at WDW.

Can't we just have a good time and laugh at ourselves? We all do things other people think are silly! Nobody is trying to be elitist or suggest some people don't belong at Disney. If you have to sacrifice your health (i.e. eating a warm egg salad sandwich), maybe you should wait until you have more sense--or can afford ham.

**I am not trying to be a pork-elitist. I am merely making a pathetic attempt at humor to lighten the mood.
