Bye! I need to shower. And shopping? I tend to buy only what I need. ::yes:: But I have a hard time resisting a soft pretzel. :guilty: But before I go shopping, I have to clean!!!

 Good morning............late! :) I had some stuf to do around the house before sitting down to the computer for a few.

I agree that we're ready in case our thread has to go. :cool2:

Kathy, I usually made copies of full size papers, lists, etc. to take on vacation. This past time, I just took a giant notecard (laminated afterwards with mailing tape strips) and wrote all of our reservation #s (flight, hotel, etc) and phone #s (airline, hotel, Dis.Dining, etc) plus all of our ADRs by day. It took the front and back of 1 lg. notecard that fit in my messenger bag. The only other thing I did besides print out the boarding passes was to put all of the WDW phone numbers in my cellphone directory. It worked out great! This was the first time I didn't have to sort through stuff in the evenings at the hotel room.

So, nothing outside going on here today until this afternoon. I do have a lot of normal catch up stuff to do inside though.

3P, I really enjoyed reading your trip report! I got delayed in mine and now it seems sooooooooo long ago! :upsidedow

I'm sitting down a LITTLE. I'm working on vacuuming. And GRADUALLY finishing the putting away of FR stuff. DR is gradually becoming unburied. I wanted to vac the tops of things before I put them back dirty! Like the whole record collection and the mini blinds that go on the french doors.

:wave2:

OK...small story. Last night the choir was practicing a song with a cd. There's ONE LITTLE TINY section of it that sounds like a Disney princess part. It's very pretty.:cloud9: Anyway, DH is a real HAM, so when practice is over, he's flitting around like he's a fairy and should be wearing a tutu. Now...picture this...he is NOT small by ANY stretch of the imagination. He is a VERY large person...you guys have seen pictures. It was kind of funny watching him...uhhh...waltz through the air.:rolleyes1 I offered to show the choir the PICTURE we have of him IN a pink tutu at the HDDR.:rolleyes1 Maybe I better locate it today.;)
I remember doing "Disney-esque" stuff in church choir. :rotfl2: I think you should make SEVERAL copies of DH and insert them into people's choir folders at that point in the song...:stir:

Good Morning...

Not on for long this morning...A meeting out of town to get to..at least I won't be dodging downed trees:eek: Hurricane force winds were here last night....Our outside lamp (on a post) was laying in our driveway..Our mini break from winter is over as temps have fallen to 38F and snow/winter mix expected tonight and tomorrow...

Yikes! Nothing like being knocked right back into winter, huh?

I finally decided it was time to print out my reservations for everything, maps and directions. :hourglass

Yippee!!!:yay: :yay: :woohoo: Only TWO WEEKS!!!

I overslept a bit this morning. DH woke me up telling me that he took DD's cell phone away last night because she was on it too late after he'd warned her not to be, and then she lied to him about it. He'll go off to work now, and I'll have to deal with the fall-out when she gets up.:headache:

He says she can have it back tomorrow morning. I'm glad that he's doing some disciplining finally, but he often does it quickly in anger without warning, and I just hope he was clear last night with her, so that she understood what it was she did wrong. He has set 10 pm as a time for her to be off the phone. This, along with the texting deprivation, could make for a long week of emotional outbursts...:sad2:

I'd better get ready for the onslaught...

I don't know that I would really call it a trip report, but it is as close as it gets with me. Still need to take pictures off of the camera, but we are bad about not taking that many at Disney...a side effect of going often, I'm afraid. We have a lot of pictures from the Orange Bowl.

You just have to be in the right mood to do that stuff....besides, you had a houseful. You did the right thing...spent your time with them!:thumbsup2

:lmao: You're going to need it. My DH does the same type of thing.:headache: He even makes rules then leaves town and forgets to tell me about them. And his are often a little ridiculous and like your DH made in anger.

Yep...you're gonna need that suit of armor!!!

I know what you mean about the BEING CLEAR pirate: and the LIEING.pirate: pirate: Why is it the LAST one that gives us trouble???:confused3 Is this the last HURRAH?!?!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Don't even say that! My youngest is the nice one...of course, he IS still young.:sad2:

BTW, should I find that picture of the handsome new husband you offered me? ;)

Back again for the evening. :)

Good January Morning! :sunny:

How are we EVER going to make posting records if we don't post much???:lmao:

:lmao:!! So True!

Did you guys see this?

Update on the boards- Technical and Non Technical versions included

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We know there have been some issues with the boards and I wanted to give everyone an update. I've included a non-technical and a technical version. Since the server move we have run into several issues:

1. The code that was supposed to keep people from using the built in search and keep them on the board tracker search wasn't working right. Some people were able to access the built in search which quickly kills the boards.

Technical- Hows this for a query???
Count: 1 Time=1208.00s (1208s) Lock=0.00s (0s) Rows=8744.0 (8744),
SELECT
thread.threadid, thread.forumid, post.userid
FROM thread AS thread
INNER JOIN post AS post ON(thread.threadid = post.threadid )
WHERE post.postid IN(N,,{repeated 146966 times}N) AND thread.forumid IN(N) AND post.visible = N

Yes that is 1208 seconds

That is fixed and by all accounts performance has been better today.

2. The hard drives weren't fast enough- sometimes new isn't as much better as you would think

Technical- the old database server was 4 10k scsi's in a raid 0+1. The new one has 4 15k SAS in a raid 0+1. We are not seeing much difference at all. We are looking at adding 2 15k SAS's for the OS and having a 6 disk raid 0+1 or going with 2 drives for the OS and tying into our hosts fiber channel SAN.

It's going to take a week to sort that out.

3. We are getting a little big for the "stock" version of the software.

Technical- it doesn't scale all that darn well

We are considering bringing in some expert consultants that are specialists in mysql performance to look at the code and see what they can do. We know that long threads are becoming an issue. I'll just copy a quote from the vbulletin board to explain:
vb stores the threadid and dateline in the post table. Whenever a bunch of posts needs to be selected, vb filters the post table by threadid and orders the results by dateline, and takes a few of the posts (of course there is an index involved). In other words the query is similar to

SELECT * FROM post WHERE threadid=$threadid ORDER BY dateline LIMIT 8575,15

which means that mysql will have to throw away the first 8575 results and then return the next 15. If my understanding is correct, this is the reason why large threads are bad. We need only 15 rows, but mysql has to analyse thousands.
With some threads approaching 125,000 posts you can see the issue. We don't want to have to put thread length limits back so we are looking for options.

Wow.. that's..... something. :lmao:

Sounds like we may have to poof anyhow.......but we're ready.:cool2:

At least we have a home to go to if it DOES go poof. :)

Example...this thread. It's very nostalgic to have the beginning pages, cause that's where the game/clues were. But, we're up to page 3,192!!! That's a lot of memory! (And memories. :lmao:)

:scared1: And :lmao:

I'd better get ready for the onslaught...

Good luck.

Hmmm...maybe DH's are all the same. :scratchin

BTW...can't find the pic of DH in the pink tutu.:headache: :confused3 I'll be on the hunt...casually.

When I cleaned the FR today I discovered how DIRTY my kids can be.:rotfl:

Hi everyone...kind of busy since I've been sick and the house has fallen apart. DH had no forks to eat breakfast with this morning.:rotfl2: Haven't had a chance to catch up at the cabin, but I did complete my trip report (the first one from Sept!):lmao:

Talk to you all soon!

Well that was one quick evening. :lmao: need to be up early tommorrow so nighty night.

Hey the DIS clock isn't too far off today!:scared1:

Thanks for finishing your TR! I read it and made a comment. See if you agree...

It's hard to be a wife, a mommy AND be sick. That last part should be ILLEGAL!

Yes, it is hard. I always tell DH when he's sick, he comes home from work, gets in bed and rests while I take care of everything else. When I'M sick, he goes to work and I take care of everything else.

:confused3 :rotfl2:

Kathy, I'll bet your DH came home and hid the evidence! ::yes:: :rotfl:

But I bet you didn't have the guy that fixes your garage door cleaning up after your children...:rotfl2: Youngest DS had thrown a jacket close to the back door. The guy came to the door when he was fixing it....picked it up for me, said he just hated to see it laying there.

Nanu, like Terri said that's the hardest thing about staying home. Now your work is 24/7, healthy or not.

I just had a similar chat with my family...because after vacation he came home and went to work. I came home and I think my boss thought I'd be ready to roll at work, yet my family still expected me to unpack everyone, get food, go through, sort and take care of "the mail pile." I finally just today feel like I've come out of complete chaos.

Strong storms headed for Atlanta.............I'm getting out of here. Talk to you all tomorrow!

My girls can trash a bathroom in under 5 minutes. I swear they don't know how to hang up towels, but brushes and hair appliances away, hang up towels or get things into the garbage cans. I can't wait to see what my house will look like in April!

I strongly suggest paper plates and plastic silverware. Just ask my family!
Are you feeling better?

Hey the DIS clock isn't too far off today!:scared1:

:confused3 :rotfl2:

Been there done that. One of the perks of having older kids is I can go to bed when I feel like it. No one really needs me, they just think they do.

That is why Moms need a vacation from vacation. My DH always says he wants to go camping for a week. He can't understand why I don't think that would be a vacation. I try to explain that while camping I'll still be cooking, picking up, making beds, etc. How he thinks that would be a vacation for me is beyond me.

completely of ftopic, but i know alot of you are praying for our dd. we got good news update today. its on page 8 of my thread about her

Have a great trip home, and just know that many of us would LOVE to spend some time in that hell-hole you call home!:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Oh, I know I'm blessed, I really do, but it's hard to leave the warmth of family and friends and take up the daily struggle again. My hero is Dory: 'Just keep swimming, just keep swimming ...' :thumbsup2 And thanks for the good wishes!!

Have a safe and wonderful trip home!

Thanks!!

 Have a safe trip home...........it's always hard to leave "The World."

Thanks, and you're not wrong!!

Have a great trip home!

Thanks!!

A funny thing about our departure: we had been planning on leaving my DF's in Bradenton about 4pm and driving to Orlando to catch our flight scheduled for 8:25 pm. The kids and my DF had been at the pool and came back about 2pm saying that a lady there had told them that there was a dreadful accident on I4. We checked it out, and great heavens, there had been a horrible pileup with fatalities due to low visibility because of a brush fire and I4 wasn't expected to reopen until the next day.

We packed in record time while my sweet DF made us sandwiches for the car and leapt into the car at 2:30 pm with the plan to take a longer route via back roads. We made it in plenty of time and ended up having a relaxed and comfortable trip back.

The funny part: we've been there for 5 family vacations and 1 trip for just my DH and me over the last years. Of those 6 trips, we have had four departures disrupted for weird reasons: two hurricanes, one flight that was delayed for 16 hours, and now the highway closing. It's obvious what's going on here, right?

We're meant to stay!! Someone up there is sending us a clear message, and we're too dense to get it: 'Hey, where are you going? Stick around!' I swear, if this happens one more time, I'm putting down the suitcase and picking up the Help Wanted section!! :goodvibes

Example...this thread. It's very nostalgic to have the beginning pages, cause that's where the game/clues were. But, we're up to page 3,192!!! That's a lot of memory! (And memories. :lmao:)

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you saying that you don't read the thread through from page 1 every time like me? Huh. Well, now I know why I never have any free time! :rotfl:

completely off topic, but i know a lot of you are praying for our dd. we got good news update today. its on page 8 of my thread about her

Froggy, I'm so happy to hear your good news!! Good luck to your whole family!! :grouphug:

I saw that post, great news!

The power of prayer is never something to overlook.

Oh, I know I'm blessed, I really do, but it's hard to leave the warmth of family and friends and take up the daily struggle again. My hero is Dory: 'Just keep swimming, just keep swimming ...' :thumbsup2 And thanks for the good wishes!!

Even though I made that sly remark, I DO know how you feel being so far from family and friends and in a place that isn't really home. I feel that way out here in CA often. But I'm a firm believer in the fact that we're put where we're put for a reason, and we'd better make the best of it!:thumbsup2

And I'm glad you avoided that accident on I-4. I heard about that here! And next time you're going to be in the World, let us all know way ahead of time, and maybe we can all meet you there!:yay: :yay: :yay:
