Good January Morning! :sunny:

How are we EVER going to make posting records if we don't post much???:lmao:

Not much new here.:confused3

:wave2:

OK...small story. Last night the choir was practicing a song with a cd. There's ONE LITTLE TINY section of it that sounds like a Disney princess part. It's very pretty.:cloud9: Anyway, DH is a real HAM, so when practice is over, he's flitting around like he's a fairy and should be wearing a tutu. Now...picture this...he is NOT small by ANY stretch of the imagination. He is a VERY large person...you guys have seen pictures. It was kind of funny watching him...uhhh...waltz through the air.:rolleyes1 I offered to show the choir the PICTURE we have of him IN a pink tutu at the HDDR.:rolleyes1 Maybe I better locate it today.;)

Good Morning...

Not on for long this morning...A meeting out of town to get to..at least I won't be dodging downed trees:eek: Hurricane force winds were here last night....Our outside lamp (on a post) was laying in our driveway..Our mini break from winter is over as temps have fallen to 38F and snow/winter mix expected tonight and tomorrow...

AAAAH I've done a English-ism. :lmao: Revision is our word for Study. :thumbsup2 I don't know why though. It sounds better than studying; I mean it reminds me of TV! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the explanation...I'm thinking..."revision"...making changes...what's he changing??? :rotfl2:

Still sick, so I didn;t read back much... I did a secret shop today and I did it wrong! I'm so angry with myself for messing it up. So I'll have to redo the shop, except I have no one to watch DD tomorrow or Friday. Every one I know will be working. And since I'm redoing the shop, I'll make a whopping $2 on the deal. That'll cover my gas. I'm ready for the weekend.

Where were you "shopping"? Is it a place that you could bring DD with you? We used to have shoppers in the bank...We could always spot them...This is a small town ;) We'd even call the next branch closest to us and describe what they were wearing...And sure enough, the person had just walked in..:rotfl: Do you get paid less for a redo? Hope you feel better soon..

Maybe he's getting into his "Disney" mode..:rolleyes1 You know...preparing for his days in the parks...maybe he's planning on spending the day with Tinkerbell? :rotfl2:

3P - Nice trip report! It sounds like the pirates really enjoyed the bowl game and may do this again???

My DH would :scared1: in a crowd that size! :lmao:

Ooh...that would be nice! It was pretty funny to watch.

The weather is teasing you, Tammy!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Gee, that's how DS got after Enchanted!

And I definitely think the choir should get to see the picture :stir:

The boys did love the bowl game. I don't know if we'll do it again or not. According to what I'm told, Kansas has been to two bowl games. Both times it was the orange bowl. The first was in 1948 when FIL played for them, and the other time was in 1969 when FIL packed up the station wagon and drove DH and family to Miami from Kansas to see it. At that rate...I'm not going to worry about tickets any time soon!;)

So I have nothing to talk about...high schoolers are getting ready, youngest is at school. Its a dark dreary drizzly day here.

Drizzle in Atlanta = a good thing!

Yep...in another 20 to 40 years you should be able to go to another KS bowl game!;) :lmao: That MIGHT make you pretty durn old!

::yes:: I might even be so old I don't even do it!;)

And the drizzle is good, rain would be better, but looks like we might get some of that too!:woohoo: They're saying we could have some severe storms....I'll pass on that part!:scared:

I finally decided it was time to print out my reservations for everything, maps and directions. :hourglass

I printed a lot of that stuff early, directions to U of F Gainesville, directions to the Orange Bowl, etc. I was glad I did. Things got really hectic righ before I left and I'm sure I would have forgotten something. As it was, I had the biggest pile of papers. We had three reservations, a reservation for a tour, mapquest between all of our stops, ADR list....:lmao:

This morning may get kind of interrupted...I'm waiting for a garage door guy that is supposed to come back, and I want to get a workout in. I also have a hair appointment later. I was supposed to have it last week, but........well you know. Let's just say it is ready!;)

Update on the boards- Technical and Non Technical versions included

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We know there have been some issues with the boards and I wanted to give everyone an update. I've included a non-technical and a technical version. Since the server move we have run into several issues:

1. The code that was supposed to keep people from using the built in search and keep them on the board tracker search wasn't working right. Some people were able to access the built in search which quickly kills the boards.

Technical- Hows this for a query???
Count: 1 Time=1208.00s (1208s) Lock=0.00s (0s) Rows=8744.0 (8744),
SELECT
thread.threadid, thread.forumid, post.userid
FROM thread AS thread
INNER JOIN post AS post ON(thread.threadid = post.threadid )
WHERE post.postid IN(N,,{repeated 146966 times}N) AND thread.forumid IN(N) AND post.visible = N

Yes that is 1208 seconds

That is fixed and by all accounts performance has been better today.

2. The hard drives weren't fast enough- sometimes new isn't as much better as you would think

Technical- the old database server was 4 10k scsi's in a raid 0+1. The new one has 4 15k SAS in a raid 0+1. We are not seeing much difference at all. We are looking at adding 2 15k SAS's for the OS and having a 6 disk raid 0+1 or going with 2 drives for the OS and tying into our hosts fiber channel SAN.

It's going to take a week to sort that out.

3. We are getting a little big for the "stock" version of the software.

Technical- it doesn't scale all that darn well

We are considering bringing in some expert consultants that are specialists in mysql performance to look at the code and see what they can do. We know that long threads are becoming an issue. I'll just copy a quote from the vbulletin board to explain:
vb stores the threadid and dateline in the post table. Whenever a bunch of posts needs to be selected, vb filters the post table by threadid and orders the results by dateline, and takes a few of the posts (of course there is an index involved). In other words the query is similar to

SELECT * FROM post WHERE threadid=$threadid ORDER BY dateline LIMIT 8575,15

which means that mysql will have to throw away the first 8575 results and then return the next 15. If my understanding is correct, this is the reason why large threads are bad. We need only 15 rows, but mysql has to analyse thousands.
With some threads approaching 125,000 posts you can see the issue. We don't want to have to put thread length limits back so we are looking for options.

Good luck with all that. I had my hair cut this week too. I had gone 5 weeks.:scared1:

My pile for the trip is growing. I always keep a folder, and I don't throw it out when trip is done. It's handy for the NEXT time.

Sounds like we may have to poof anyhow.......but we're ready.:cool2:

I have a tote bag that I use on the trip....when we get home anything I want to keep for next time goes into it. It has Mickey on it...so there's no confusion about what's in it!;)

I usually cut mine about every five weeks.........it has been SIX!!:scared1: :scared1: :-): Things are serious!;) )

Maybe that's WHY we're ready. ;)

A lot has to do with how MANY people are on. It's MUCH worse at popular times of the day. I don't think it had a LOT to do with our siggies, even thought TPTB thought it did. Frankly, I thought it was BETTER when they limited NUMBER of pictures/size and NUMBER of smilies. I think it got worse when they just worried about length. But the length made it nicer for scrolling purposes.

I mentioned in that thread about eliminating everything older than 1000 posts. I don't know if they'd have to do that on an individual thread basis or if it can be written in somehow. ***Computer programming challenged here.***

Example...this thread. It's very nostalgic to have the beginning pages, cause that's where the game/clues were. But, we're up to page 3,192!!! That's a lot of memory! (And memories. :lmao:)

I'd hate to see that go away too....but it isn't as if I go look at it often. Seems there should be a way to program the way you mentioned, but I know enough programming to be dangerous....and my experience goes back many years.;)

The garage door guy is here.........I may have to go...if he can get done soon enough, I still want to get my workout in. (I really AM back from vacation, aren't I?):sad2:

Yep...and I need to go walk too!

Maybe I should just go do that. :scratchin

And...I walked for 15 min. and then decided I'll go to the mall later. :rotfl:

Too funny! Yes, find the picture and show him off in all his glory!

I finally decided it was time to print out my reservations for everything, maps and directions. :hourglass

That would probably be a good thing. My goal for this weekend is to work out our ADR's and start to plan the itinerary.

which means that mysql will have to throw away the first 8575 results and then return the next 15. If my understanding is correct, this is the reason why large threads are bad. We need only 15 rows, but mysql has to analyse thousands.
With some threads approaching 125,000 posts you can see the issue. We don't want to have to put thread length limits back so we are looking for options.

I remember years ago they used to limit size. Threads would go poof and they would restart over.

Example...this thread. It's very nostalgic to have the beginning pages, cause that's where the game/clues were. But, we're up to page 3,192!!! That's a lot of memory! (And memories. :lmao:)

There must be a way to just delete the early pages I would think. Again I am computer/programing challenged so maybe they can't.

My internet went poof last night. I figure they werre working on areas where it was out from the wind and that took us all out. So this morning I had to go around and re-boot everything to get it back up and running.

Yep...and I need to go walk too!

Maybe I should just go do that. :scratchin

And...I walked for 15 min. and then decided I'll go to the mall later. :rotfl:

Speed walking at the mall can be enjoyable........but expensive!;)

I'm like that some days with a treadmill....just can't go one more step. I prefer to exercise in a class. If I can make myself get there, I work harder and don't leave early unless I have a good reason. (Peer pressure can be beneficial some times!)

I need to start getting ready for work, see you all later tonight!
