Politics on the Podcast

For those of you that want the Podcast to "stick to Disney," Pete's comments about the fingerprinting IS about Disney. No matter which side of the issue you fall, or if you even care about it, it IS something that all of us traveling to Disney World now has to face.

In the interest of full disclosure, I totally agree with Pete's thoughts on the issue of fingerprinting. In its best light, it's an unnecessary practice that sets a dangerous precedent.

Thanks Pete, and everyone else, for not shying away from the darker issues along with all the fun ones associated with Disney.

Here's my rant: please stop taking everything the podcast crew says and try to pick it apart to prove them wrong. They are doing this to entertain and to educate. However, there is no test you need to take so if they are a tiny bit foggy on a small detail give them a pass it's not a matter of national security. Do you really think someone is going to show up on the day of the cruise and say "well this thing is clearly not quite as big as the empire state building so I want a refund"?

Ding, Ding, Ding!!!! And we have a winner!!! :cool1: Well said, shmedly123!

And as far as politics go...Pete, thanks for making a great effort to keep political views outta the podcast. It is and will continue to be appreciated by me. If I want politics I will turn on the TV or have a conversation with my husband:rolleyes: ....geez, is it November yet?!?!?! Our house might quiet down then!

Thanks again guys for a great podcast I really appreciate everything you guys do and for the one or two minor things you get wrong there are literally hundreds of things you have done to help enhance my vacation experience...I will now get down from my soapbox.

Scoot over.. please make some room on that soapbox... Nicely said.

:thumbsup2

I think it should be pointed out that there are cases when Disney + politics go together. For instance, with Amendment 2 coming up, I would be 1000% SHOCKED if Disney does not make an official statement against it. Of course they're going to because they offer same sex partner benefits.
Scenario:
Disney announces opposition
The amendment is due to the conservatives
Pete or whomever on the show is going to have an opinion and facts about Disney's involvement with all diversities specifically gay people
a rant will ensue.

My point is that sometimes what Disney says and does is a reflection of politics in the real world. In fact, if Disney does make an announcement it seems as though that'd be a GREAT time to read the email/play my vmail I left for the podcast crew on that very subject.

I started listening because I enjoy going to DISney world. I don't much listen to plan for trips. That, I am already pretty good at. I listen because I enjoy the group and the chemistry between.

While it might be PC to keep the politics out, I'm here to say: I'll tune in to listen to just about anything they want to share. Errands for the day. Laundry detergent being used... These characters ;) have been well developed, are stronly opinionated and have dream careers. I'm tuning in for whatever is on the table. The Round Table.

If your standard for us is perfection, I'm afraid you'll continue to be disappointed in our performance.

Pete

You can not be referring to Bawb, we all know that cheater loving, moe-gee-tow drinking, extra long rapid fire giving, super nap taking, Dole whip gulping, Jedi stalking, kaht kam racing, muddy buddy competing man is pure perfection! ;)

I've felt the same as the OP, but was too chicken to mention it. Thanks Pete for replying to the OP.

Love the podcasts! :disrocks:

I have to agree with this. And sometimes the funniest things said are not necessarily "disney related", but I feel like I am right there with them and enjoying the conversation is enough. And Pete's rants are very entertaining! Thanks podsquad.

sometimes it just falls out of me and I can't help it. You have my word that I will keep the politics to a minimum. but I promise to keep it in check from here on out.
Pete

I'm glad you express your opinions. That's what I love about you and the DIS! It's a wonderful macrocosum with a common interest in things Disney.
Speak your mind while you're still young enough to have one:laughing:

ITA!:thumbsup2

And BTW, that's a great idea for a segment- Laundry detergent being used. :rotfl2:

Seriously, the scanner issue IS Disney related and has been quite a hot button issue on the theme park board.
What's next? Kevin can't say anything negative about a restaurant in a review? Personally, I don't want to hear a PC version of the podcast.

The finger scanner issue is absolutely related to Disney - and I will continue to rail against it for as long as I have the show. What I will not do, is draw comparisons to other non related issues like I did in last weeks podcast. Where I stepped over the line was when I started bringing in Iraq, Afganistan, wiretapping, etc into the mix. That's where that line got crossed, and that's what I promise not to bring up again.

Please, trust me - NOTHING will ever stop me from sharing my absolute unvarnished opinions on things like this. I consider the finger scanners a violation of civil rights and I'll continue to say so unabated - that you can take to the bank. What I won't do is bring up other politically charged topics that don't belong in the show to support my point - which is what I did last week.

Sorry if anyone got the idea I would stop talking about issues like the finger scanners - if someone wants that -they will need to find another podcast to listen to :)

Pete

Sun Concentrated...$2.99 a gallon at Walgreen's.

....in case you wanted to know my detergent affiliation.

Yes, we are experts on Disney - but we're also human and can make mistakes. If you listen to the show you know that whenever a factual error is brought to our attention, we make a point of issuing a correction in the next show.

If your standard for us is perfection, I'm afraid you'll continue to be disappointed in our performance.

Pete

I think it is the fact that you and the team are refreshing honest and human that the bond and dilaogue has been built up :goodvibes . Think of a family or a close friend. It is the familiarity that allows the listeners/podcast team to agree and disagree with confidence.
I don't pretend to understand the politics of the USA but at times the satyr for me is part of the magic of the show. Don't change :)

Yes. You can show your Photo ID (Driver's license worked for me, passport probably would, too; wouldn't try your Sam's card...) and opt out. This worked for me.

I would encourage you to have the ID out and ready so the people in line behind you don't have to wait.

Thanks! I will do this on our next trip.

What about kids? Our DD needs a ticket this year and she's only 4, so no ID.

Oh, one more thing.....

Purex Free & Clear - Ultra Concentrate :rotfl2:

See and all this time I had you pegged for "Cheer". Thats what I always use. Anyone that reads "ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN" by Robert Fulghum only uses Cheer.

Wow--I didn't see the show as overly political at all. I just saw it as one of Pete's rants! :rotfl2: (which I love, by the way.)

My stance on this is that I love it when anyone is passionate and is able to share that passion or speak about it. This is particularly true about politics.

Now, I admit that I have very strong and well-entrenched political views. That being said, I love it when anyone is passionate about a political issue...even if it is the compeltely opposite view from my own. When some is passionate about a political issue, it shows that the person is AWARE and INFORMED about what is going on in our country...and that is SO important. So, even if I disagree, I think it is great.

But in this specific case...again, I saw it as an off-shoot of the finger thing and that just made it funny for me...just Pete being Pete...which is always a good thing in my mind! :goodvibes

As many others here, I listen to some of the other Disney-related podcasts as well as the DIS unplugged. And the pure entertainment value of the DIS is what sets it apart from the others. The others are just "information about Disney." Sure, they are intersting because I love all things Disney. But they are not entertaining. The DIS has the entertainment quality because of the personalities, the joking around, and the getting off on tangents.

That is why I, like others have mentioned, would continue to listen if they talked about brands of dog food (sorry...thought I'd get us off the laundry detergent thing...:rotfl: )

Glad to see everyone coming "clean" here.

In all seriousness, I haven't yet had time for the email show. (I know - what's up with that?!) I love Pete's rants but would hate to see too much politics get into it. That's it. My soapbox is squishy as I use liquid detergent!

Sunlight for most things but President's Choice for dark clothes to try to keep the uniform from fading too fast.

*disclaimer: President's Choice is a line of "high-end generic" grocery products in Canada. They make everything from laundry degertent to non-alcoholic beer. No Politicians were involved in the naming of this line. I think.*
