ADR System Upgrade - History

At first, I thought it was a great idea because I too am very visual and I think it would help me to make better decisions on times and back up plans.

Although....my husband is a Network Engineer, when I mentioned that this may be the way we make ADR's - and after I explained how crazy it is at 7am to get your ADR's now over the phone - he simply laughed. He said he would hate to work at Disney whenever that started because there would be systems overload first thing in the morning and the pressure to get it back up would be unreal. And like pp mentioned, EVERYDAY would be someones 90 day mark - there would be no time for the system to recoup from all that traffic.

That being said, I can imagine how FRUSTRATED I would be if I woke up at 7am on my Saturday that I took off of work to make ADR's and the system was down all day - grrrrr I think they should leave it the way it is!

Why do some people assume there will be 50,000 individuals waking up at the crack of 7:00 am to go online and make ADRs? Why would the number be any more than the number who currently do it using the phone? If the current number who call up and have an individual CM book their ADRs using Disney computers doesn't crash the system, why would this happen online from your own home? If anything, by providing a phone # and the online resource, they will be lessening the possibility of an overload on either end. There will be problems with the launch of any new software, but I can't understand why people keep saying its Y2K all over again. I can't wait to use the new system.

Think positive folks. Unlike a lot of things Disney does for its bottom line, this is meant to help us plan our visit. It's not a negative thing. :goodvibes

When do the first free diners for August start their ADR's.... Let's see.... free dining...... new onlin system............. sounds like a good mix.....

I'm just glad I'm late in the free dining window. I'm sure they'll work it all out before my turn.......

I've said ever since the 'a la carte' software started operating that I didn't expect any public online facility to be available before 26th May (of course, it could always be much later!) so let's just keep our fingers crossed.

My own booking window starts on 21st May, and a second one starts on 28th May, but I'm fully expecting to need to be near a phone rather than a computer on those days. :)

I think part of it is that Disney has failed to show that they can keep their OLD software (and web sites for that matter) from crashing, so what hope is there for a new, untested-under-real-load system? :)

In addition, everyone who calls at 7am isn't having their reservation put through at the same time. Many get busy signals, others are put on hold. That bottleneck limits the traffic hitting the CM's reservation computers. If all of those people were hitting the website at the same time, it probably would cause some problems unless the site was built to handle the traffic. Google, for instance, is built to handle a lot of traffic. Whether Disney would correctly anticipate the load is the question.

O.K. so where is this Date May 11th coming from????

Secondly my ADR opens up I believe May 25th...there seems to be two dates swirling aroung May 26 and May 11, where did these rumors start??? I have been searching back through the thread but can not seem to find an answer??
:confused3

Man...this makes me really miss being on the those stay-at-home mom-types. I would love to be among the first to crash this system when it debuts!

:rotfl:

Not a stay at home mom, but would take the day off to pretend I am one to make my ADR's:thumbsup2

shout out to all the stay at home moms YOU ROCK!

see below....

Some one just posted on the DVC misc area that the start May 11t. No other info though

I was told today it won't start until the beginning of June (this by a CM)

Disney has a few more major kinks to work out before they go public with it :lmao:

GOOD luck is all I can say :rotfl2:

begin May 11

My mom is a DRC CM - she is going in tomorrow for training regarding the new online dining. Whether it pans out or not who knows, initially she told me the date was May 24th, but its since been listed as the 11th. :confused3

So just to get caught up the online system has not gone live yet correct?
Also what are the hours of the dining hotline?

Of course the system will crash when they 1st start using it. It takes time to get all the kinks worked out of all new programs.

If software and hardware are properly designed, coded, and tested, there is no reason for crashes when the system 'goes live'. Folks do it all the time-space shuttle computers didn't wig out with the 1st launch, the 1st CAT scan patient didn't get fried with too much radiation, etc. In plenty of industries we have no choice but for our software and hardware to be thoroughly tested and work correctly the 1st time.
Now this is not to say that Disney's IT team will succeed, but it is sure expected where I work!

I do hope it works out. Last time I went solo when I made my adrs the male cm kept on at me on why I was going alone, that really irritated me.

While that is reassuring, it doesn't explain all those stories here on the boards with the computer crashing while CM's made ADR's for them since implementing the new system a couple of months ago.......

And have you ever tried to place an online order from Disneyshopping.com during a sale???? Most people I know have had the system crash on them at some point.

******UPDATE 5/11/09******
I received a PM from one of our wonderful Disney Dining CM's who said that they are launching the online Dining Reservations for Travel Agents TODAY!! They hoped that it would go well and that it'll launch soon for the general public. We'll see in the next few days/weeks how this works out and keep everyone posted.

Just checked the disney travel agent site and there's nothing about it there as of 7:40 am.

Got a PM - Online ADR's are online and working for TA's!!

That's great to hear that it seems to be working well for the TA's! I wonder how long until the site is available for the general public to use.

I call in for my ADRs on 5/25 (2 weeks from today) and it would be so nice if I didn't have to talk to anyone right at 7AM - I can be kind of a crabby witch that early in the morning! :rotfl:
