BAD Disney Experience...

I love reading all these threads about magical moments at Disney, and I think I'd read so many of them before my last trip I thought every minute would be like heaven. But the first day were were there with our 3 year old, we had this experience:

We were walking outside Germany when we saw Snow White! It was the first time she'd seen any character. There was hardly a line, so we walked up there and waited. Then, the handler told me that Snow White needed to take a break and would be back in 15 minutes. I didn't think my 3-year old would wait that long, but she sat there, more patiently than I'd ever seen her, just waiting. While she was waiting, she picked a flower for Snow White, thought of questions she'd ask her, etc. etc. Well, 15 minutes became 20, and 20 became 30. I wanted to leave, but I couldn't do that to my daughter. Finally, the photographer came out and said that Snow White was "busy helping the dwarves" and couldn't come out (she'd actually gotten sick).

Well, my daughter was hysterical. She cried and cried and cried and nothing I could do would make her feel better. The other cast members there just shrugged and said they were sorry. I felt like that at the happiest place on earth, they could have at least done SOMETHING to make her feel better. Instead, they just sent us off on our way. My daughter was devastated and just wanted to go home. I did, too. They could see that, and they didn't seem to care.

After that, things did get better, and we did have a magical trip, obviously, or else we wouldn't be going back. And she did get to meet Snow White (and all the dwarves) eventually. But has anyone had something like that happen to them? And did the cast members do anything to try to make things better?

Things happen. What would you have liked them to do?

Im sorry your daughter had to wait but what did you want them to do? If the cm was sick their sick. I'm sure they didn't plan on that. It stinks but it shouldn't ruin a vacation. Your dd got to meet snow white and I'm sure has no long terms effects of it

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's so hard to see that disappointment on your baby's face and to explain that kind of change to a 3yo. :(

Although it was terrible for your 3yo, what exactly did you want the CM to do? Snow White was ill. Drag her out anyway? Bring your 3yo to the infirmary? Give her a fast pass to something? You wrote "they could have at least done SOMETHING to make her feel better".

If I were the CM I'm not sure I would know what to do either.

My kid is very disappointed that several great attractions are closed on our upcoming trip. Should I complain to CM to "Make him happy".

I'm gonna get flamed but it wasn't Snow White or the CM's problem, nor is it their job to make your child or you happy. There is no way they can control your emotions, only you are responsible for that.

I am happy to hear that the rest of your trip was magical.

I was wondering the same thing :confused3

Yeah, but you read so many other stories where something like this happens and there seems to be a happy ending. It's tough luck that Snow White was out of commission and all.

It depends on the CM I would think. I could see where a CM could have consulted a schedule or called someone who would know if another Snow White would be on stage that day. Or maybe offer up another Princess that might have been appearing soon in another country. Jasmine or Belle or Alice (I know not a princess) or Mulan...you can't swing a stick in WS without hitting a princess.

I understand that you felt upset, letdown and frustrated.I do understand how difficult it is to explain to a small child who doesn't understand. But life happens, things go wrong and it isn't anyones fault.I am not sure what you wanted Disney to do.I think maybe they could have told you where and when you could find Snow White, but not sure what else you expected.

As a mother of 3 girls I totally get the disappointment. A few of you had questioned what else could they have done. Something that would have eased it .. Having someone come out as soon as they realized SW was sick. After 5 minutes they were prob aware the cm was sick and the handler could have come out. The handler or another cm could have confirmed where other characters were (esp if there was one going to be out in he next 15 min..) "sweetie sleeping beauty will be in France in 15 minutes and she would live to see you". Would have likely gone over much better than a shrug.

No flames at all, you really hit the nail on the head! So many people think Disney should somehow, make it up to them for an unplanned event. It's really kind of sad.

I remember this type of thing happening when I was little. My mother never thought it was up to the CM's to help me feel better, that was her job.

Poor Snow White was sick. I'm sure that they were focused on making sure everything was ok with her.

Do I think that they should have been GIVEN something for this? No
Do I think that maybe they should have suggested where else Snow was available for a meet and greet to the parents? Yes

I am somebody who never told my 3 year olds anything in advance because it is hard for them to understand things like this! I think The CM's should have done something. They should have told you that she was sick before you waited for a half hour. I would be annoyed as well. People get sick, it is unavoidable but they could have wanred you that she was under the weather and that she might not be out.

This is 100% against the policy of keeping the magic magical. There is ONLY one Snow White, suggesting another one to visit at X location would have killed that illusion. If jr was upset b/c Snow wasn't there right then how upset do you think she would have been when the illusion that she was real was killed.

FWIW Snow is usually only found in Germany consistently, she does show up in Town Square but not as consistently as Cindy, Belle, and Aurora.

Talk about entitlement... what did you expect the CM to do?

Perhaps you should use this as a wonderful example that life doesn't always turn out the way we want. Teach your daughter that she's not the center of the universe. Let her learn the best lesson of all, "life's not fair".

How do you know she wasn't all ready to come out and then started puking her guts out? I'm sure that Disney isn't going to see this and then say, 'Alright, you're done yaking so time to go back to work.'

Face characters get close to children and if they are sick they need to get checked out. Could you imagine if they sent her out there and a guest caught whatever she had?!

A great lesson for your DD and at such a young age. Not everything in life goes the way you want it to and sometimes you have to deal with disappointment. And to think all this was included in the price of admisson. You should have thanked the CMs for providing such wisdom to your DD.

guys guys guys...........this is a BAD Disney experience......not just a frustrating, maddening, or disheartening experience, but a BAD experience.

Clearly you were missing the part of when I said to tell the PARENTS where to find her. The OP was making it like they were the only ones waiting for her. Could the cast member have whispered to her where Snow might be elsewhere? Yes.
